Just a heads up, you can get a HyWay cylinder and piston for the 441, if you wanted you can get a big bore. Big bore would make it the same displacement as a 460 or a 461.
I bought a Ms241c at auction, had the same wobbly clutch drum, the bearing was ok, it turned out the end of the crank was worn down, so needs a new crank, very expensive, so I'm waiting for a second hand one to turn up., I look forward to seeing the rebuilds.
Boss has 2 550xp we use for tree service. They have low compression pulling on the cord but they run with lots of power. Maybe by design I am not sure. That 261 has lots of compression compared to the 550
I picked up a free 441 about a year ago as a barn find that wasnt running. Turns out that the sparkplug spring had come out of the coil wire, pushed it back in and she runs great now.
Nice score Tinman, looking forward to some stihl content. Hopefully the cylinder on the 261 is in good shape because nobody makes an aftermarket cylinder for the newer models with the slanted fin design and stihl prices are silly.
Sometimes the right end of the crankshaft wears okt on the 261s. Were the clutchdrum bearing sits. I hope that is not the reason for the loose clutch drum.
Cant wait to see how you make out with them. Back in the eighties my Grandfather bought a Stihl 028. Every time I went to visit him, he would make me get the saw out and show him how to start it. He never once used it. I was the only one who ever used it to cut wood up at his cottage, and I really liked that saw. When he passed away my uncle got it. So recently a buddy of mine who collects junk, asked me if I was interested in anything he had in his trailer. So I had a look, and to my surprise there was the powerhead from a 028 super in there, so I grabbed it. It was missing the clutch cover, and the filter cover and I found the gas line to the carb had a crack in it. I pulled the muffler to check the piston, and there wasn't a mark on it. So over the last month I scrounged some parts here and there, and today it's all back together, and it's a real zinger. Going to try it on some wood tomorrow.
To refer to you as a powersaw addict would most definitely be a complete understatement! That being said, your addiction provide all of us viewers with many hours of entertaining and informative watching!
Great video as usual sir, Hope you and the family are having a good week. Good bunch of saws, I’m kinda fond of the MS441c it was the first big saw I ever bought.
I'm excited to see what you do with the 261. I bought a brand new 261 for around $700 at the beginning of the covid shut down. I specifically asked for one without the autotune. But the way your's turns out should still give me ideas on how to port mine. The 261 is supposed to be a good candidate for porting to get nice gains in horsepower. Happy belated Canada day Tinman!
Hi Tinnman!!😀😀 I bet the only thing that is wrong with the 261 is that the clutch bearing is bad and they might have thought the crank bearing went out. Will be interesting to see. Pretty good buys buddy!!👍👍 Take care my friend!!😀💚 Logger Al
good score on saws. Always nice finding good deals like that. I spent all weekend working on a couple of my 2100s and 394 and ended up resurrecting an old 185 back to life. Had enough parts sitting around to make it complete and got lucky the piston/ cylinder were both mint. Got abunch of parts coming from wolf creek for a couple rebuilds too.
Best purchase out of this lot is definitely the 261c. Just an all around great saw that can take a beating. A tad heavy for a 50cc, but they hit higher than their displacement. Very reliable. The 550xp mk1 is hit or miss. You could be chasing gremlins for months or it could run perfectly. Horrible bearing/seal design with a stepped crank that sucks. Major heat issues and an inferior version of A-tune. Plus those inept dawgs with no choices for any upgrades (explains the bent muffler). The 441 is smooth, but no thanks. Its so strange that Stihl went from the 441/461 pinnacle of over-engineering silliness to the simplicity of the 462 in such a short time.
I recently bought a 394 at auction that someone modified a eliminator cover off a 288 to fit it for a little 60 dollars American. The saw runs like a champ. You gotta find you a 066 red eye! You wont be disappointed
Nice haul, I have a pair of 261c saws sitting on the shelf. Step-dad in his later years had lapses in memory and didn't mix fuel. One was maybe 2 years old and the second saw only saw one tank of fuel. Wasn't able to get parts then so hopefully they are available now. 😊
I love my 261. So light and cuts screaming fast, especially for bucking limbs. Muffler mod, West coast saw air filter, lower transfers gasket matched, minor machine and porting. Debating on going back in to tweak some numbers. I am very interested to see what the Tinman does with that 261.
Thats good timing, bought a smoked 261c a week ago cleaned the cylinder up no probs and ordered a pop up hyway piston so see how it goes, never thought you would have one on the channel.Look forward to seeing what you fo with yours.
550xp is a lovely saw, you'll like using that. Mine is mk1 cuts like a demon and light, anti vibration is the best there is. Have fun with your project what a bargain. Here in uk that would be over $150 crazy. 👍🏴
Hi tinman , nice bunch of saws the 261 go through clutch drum bearings as they are small and i think as they are a powerful saw , also maintainence and people over tightening the chain as usual 😂 , can't wait to see tinman touch on these ones , Cheers Luke from Australia
Yeah, you stole that 550! The 441 and 261 don't seem like a bad deal to me. I'm in the same boat as far as Stihl goes. I like Stihl, but in my town there's one small mom&pop Stihl dealer that specializes in about everything but saws lol. Only stocks the most common parts, fuel lines, filters and starter rope/handles. Next closest town with Stihl dealers is 120 miles away, but has 5+ of them. Looking forward to the upcoming inspection videos👍🏻
I live in Windsor Ontario just across from Detroit if you need any part you can't find here in Canada I go across offen I am sure the usa dealers have the parts
I’m excited to see what that 261 turns into that’s my next buy I have a 400c and a 500i that I run every weekend and that 261 would complete my arsenal lol can’t wait to see
261 if it has a white solenoid on the carb it's the newest version of the solenoid . I've got one bought it for 200 cdn , 2021 production year lady was selling here husband's stuff also bought a 2023 ms201c Mtronic for 200cdn
That 261 is nice. A lightweight saw juiced up would be perfect to take up a tree when the wood starts getting bigger than my climbing saw will handle. Enjoying these auction buy videos. They got me waiting on the build videos of these saws
What are these auctions I keep hearing about? I live in flat farmland too, so not a lot of saws where I live either. I just ordered an echo 355t yesterday and I can't wait to get my hands on it!
auctions are pretty much the only place I'll buy chainsaws or anything with a small engine, live or online they always go under value I've seen an ms880 sell for i think 5 or $600 and a running 036 for $105.
441, work some porting magic on it, could become a nice useful saw. Pay big $$$ for oem parts, its downfall. It shall be interesting to see what you will make of her.
I've found them on my local ebay (trade me in NZ) and occasionally Facebook marketplace. I've found the key is to use really general terms. Like just search for "chainsaw" rather than a "husqvarna chainsaw". Some people don't know what they've got and have a cheap hidden gem. Takes a while to scroll but worth it!
1st off I'm absolutely down with your channel and content, I've a 95 obs Ford dump bed and hot rod saws a bit. Having said that, If you need parts our saw shop in town generally has everything Stihl that 441c and 261 need if you run into a wall contact me and we'll get you hooked up I don't run but 4 different huskys they're on the heavier side for my liking. That 441 looked to have cooked the crank bearings and that will cause that saw to do nasty things and never be right as far as air fuel and that 261 looks the same way only it ran a bunch longer. . . Dull saws digging in the R's burn up sooo many good saws. Awesome digs man I hope they work out for you.
