All concerned are making their own version of the history. First, accept certain basic facts: 1. St.Thomas came to Malabar Coast to preach gospel around 50AD. 2. Marmotha Nazaranis were too novice, they welcomed everyone who came here assuming all Christians are part of one bigger Church. 3. However visitors came with different intentions; all foreign churches wanted the Marthoma Nazaranis to come under their fold. 4. In AD 1653, Marthoma Nazaranis proclaimed their final no to all foreign Churches who wanted to subjugate her. 5. But, could not sustain independence long since foreign churches started propagating the consecration of Marthoma I is invalid. 6. As a result, Marthoma Nazaranis were again forced to seek help from other autocephalous Orthodox Churches. 7. Right from the inception, Marthoma Nazaranis wanted to be an autonomous independent Church with good ties with all foreign churches considering them as brothers in Christ. The most unfortunate part is, all these turmoils left the ancient Church of St.Thomas in a total mess. Hence, at least from here on everyone must acknowledge the facts instead of drafting imaginary histories and should move on without creating further mess.

You should remember the transportation and communication conditions here and elsewhere, the living conditions and advancement in Kerala, the Persecuted condition of the Syriac church, both from Turks and Roman catholics. Please don't think in terms of modern conditions. Even we didn't have malayalam alphabets or even learning of a language of communication. Tamil and Syriac were mostly used for writing. Sanskrit was monopoly of Brahmins. So just think of our primitive conditions and the Persecuted state of the Syriac church for not having proper communications. The Dutch government helped us to contact the Syriac Patriarch. Why they didn't do with any other churches in the world - Eastern orthodox was there, Greek Orthodox there, Coptics there. Without any disagreement, instead with extreme reverence , Nasranis received Patriarch's representative. Why? For another 400 centuries, there was any dispute about Patriarch's spiritual leadership.

But Patriarchate in AD381 Constantinople Synod.. No Catholicos after 72nd Catholicos Mar Raban Abraham 1494-1496. So when Portuguese came to india 1499 T?here were nesthorians from persia(Kaldaya) 73rd Catholicos was ordained only in 1560 Mar Baselios 1560 -1589 with the help of Antiochian Patriarch. in 1581 MarBaselios Catholicos Ordained Davoodsa Patriarch of Antioch. Next 74 th Catholicos was. Baselios Yeldo in 1685 only. He could not stay in Persia so he run away to kerala inl685 because of Muslims in Persia. So from I589 to 1685 the See of St. Thomas was empty. So in l653 after K00NEN Kuris Noway to get a Bishop. There was kaldaya Catholicos in Persia But they are Nesthorians. There was Armenian Catholicos in Persia. They are using Eastern Aramaic Liturgy but are using PATHEERA for Holy Qurbana . But now they'belong to oriental orthodox - not Eastern Orthodox-so we have communion with them. Then Caucasian Catholicos-Georgian Catholicos and Albanian Catholicos were there But we didn't have any connection . Then only way Antioch .Eastern Orthodox have GreekLiturgy like Antioch before AD548. Then Coptic Church of course തൊപ്പി( give to Antioch by persian Bishop യാക്കോബ് ബുർദ്ദാന in AD548) is same-' but liturgy is in Greak, Egyptian, not Aramaic.so we prefer Antioch but their Liturgy is western Aramaic - Greeko Aramaic (പാശ്ചാത്യ സുറിയാനി ) Somewhat near to Eastern Aramaic which We were using. And as you said the communication was not possible. That's why it took 1653 to 1665 to get a Bishop. Do you know the Eritrean and Ethyopian churches are under Papa of Alexandria? Please remember Edessa and Persian church were under the holy see of Antioch. Think of the ancient times of limited means for transportation and communication, the general condition of the church trapped in the Muslim world and under frequent persecution, the conditions of Keralam in the those times. We can talk very easily from a time of mobile phones, internet, so on. Pity on you guys. Why we did not go after Church of East or they come to reclaim us once we got straightened our relations and adhered to true belief? Why do we have such an emotional attachment to the words Antioch and Patriarch? - I agree not for the people who are descendants of converts from Ezhavas in southern part or those have at least one parent from Marthoma, CSI or Syro malankara. If you go north of Kottayam, we rarely have such interchurch marriages or converts. We have a strong oral tradition carried on to us by our parents and grandparents. Southerners lack that because of your mixed up blood and traditions. You guys are closer to hindus in many ways than us. In traditions, practices, culinary habits, etc, etc we differ from you. We are closer to Syrian catholics in that aspect. So it is better we separate our ways peacefully. You can have an autocephalus church under Catholocose while we choose to be under The Holy See of Antioch. Remember, the members of the parish should be sole owners of the parish, not bishops, catholica or Patriarch. So any claim for the churches where we are majority cannot be agreed. When military and muscle power is with the Portuguese, how a church already under persecution can come for immediate rescue for its daughter church in a distant land of heathens and having difficult geographical conditions?
