still giggling about the people who say you should be planting trees etc to replace the ones you have cut down - they do not realise you are doing forestry management cutting down dead or sick trees, trees that grew in the wrong spot, clearing vines so they don't strangle the trees and making lovely lane-ways to get around to keep up your forestry management with ease and giving the family places to walk dogs and get wonderful outside time which is good for the soul

I don’t know if you’ve talked about this in past videos, but how many acres total do you have, including your main home property, the brick house property, and how much acreage does your mom have adjoining your property? We bought 21-acres of dense forest last year with a decent sized build site cleared. I’m wondering how large of a tractor I should be researching. A buddy told me nothing under 45 hp will do. I’ve thought about a used Case 580 or similar for grading, plowing/blowing snow, etc. in Northern ID. I’ll have a 1/2 mile gravel road to keep clear in Winter.

You can get a 3000 lb 12V winch on amazon for under $200, and a 9500 lb winch for around $300. Probably $150 more for a Warn winch. Would make pulling those logs up the hill to the trail a breeze. Seems like it would be useful quite often on your property; pulling out hung trees, getting stuck, turning big logs on the mill (wrap around the log), etc.

I see you working and walking the woods in the brush a lot, I'm from Long Island NY and have tons of poison ivy. Any poison ivy concerns for your area? Drive to Chicago on occasion to visit the grandkids and driving thru PA (all 310 miles on 80!) is a tree heaven.

I got a few trails on my place nothing like what you have but to say the least they are not bad. The only thing is they are steep. This may end up being a long comment. Sorry, I mean steeper than a horse's face. I remember a few cold Winters ago I went on one of my trails going to my favorite place..."Lookout Rock" It's beautiful up there and a sacred place too .Before that Winter some years before, I remember as I was standing on that rock seeing all nature and God's creation, it was not too cold and calm. I felt the coldest brush of air over my shoulders colder than ice then I felt a presence of a being there. It was God in spirit. I know that for a fact. He never said anything and He didn't need to. His presence with me on that rock was well enough to prove I was not alone. Now this is on a funny side. When you told Melissa not to slip then she replied "I'm not slipping" made me think of me. Yep. again on the mountain on my steep trail on that cold Winter day. I got up there when the ground was frozen. I stayed there about all day then I left and it had thawed out and the trail was a bit soft. Guess what happened. Yep, my foot gave way on the soft spot straight down and away I went on my behind well over 200 Feet straight down flying sliding on my behind. My backside was covered in thick pure mud. Man I saw things in a much different way. And there was that pine tree. Oh Sh_T !!! I barely missed it. Wow! Not to say it was a bumpy slide too. Ouch! That is hard to forget. Anyway, i love your videos, your place, your trail system, and I love you guys. I mean that. Super cool job on those trails. I know you will miss that machine. Only memories is what we have on things we enjoy and yes like to have. God Bless all the Morgan Family Micheal from NW North Carolina ( The High Country )

Long time viewer , just north of you in Mercer county Hermitage Pa . First comment . Consider buying a ATV log arch to pull out those logs deep down in where you can't reach with your tractor . Also less impact on the ground than a tractor . I do not know what your Ranger can do as i used a Honda Foreman 450 .You will be amazed what you can pull out with an 4 wheeler . Pulled many a logs out myself up in Clarion county and hauled them home for firewood .

Love you guys! We are starting a similar journey here in SW Michigan. We recently purchased 45 acres of woods that are hilly, and had some walnut logged out a couple years ago (about 60 tops left). We are cutting up wood, cutting in trails, building food plots, and just generally enjoying the heck out of being outside. We had a forestry mulcher come in and clear a build site and the first few trails, and could not agree more that that tool is a must to save time and your back. Thanks for all you do, and have a day!

Just how steep is that hill you are planting? It looked like Melissa dropped down about 15 feet walking 30 feet forward. Watching her walk back up, her feet are angled as far forward as looks comfortable and her heels don't hit the ground. looks steep That said, do you think that you might spray all that privet and multiflora rose to get rid of it? Shame to have to give back the forestry mower but it was great they let you use it to begin with.

I suggest you buy an old school front loader clothes washer that simply uses a mechanical timer i.e. No electronics. Far more reliable. You will have to go to a washer dryer repair store usually independent owned. What you want is a commercial washer for reliability without the big repair bill every time it goes down. A front load uses 1/4 to 1/3 the amount of water versus a top loader and gives you 2 wash cycles and 3 rinses. And really spins the clothes dry. You can get a front load with an electronic time but remember these were coin op machines so have the shop owner put in a push button to start the wash cycle. Did this for a friend of mine 4 years ago and she loves it. Be advised you will need to put in a small catch basin with a submersible water pump from the local hardware store to pump the water to the drain pipe as a. Commercial front load only has a gravity drain, you setup the washer on a platform about 8 inches to a foot high and the drain basin is on floor level at the rear. The washer also uses 1/10 the amount of detergent that a top loader does. The lady I helped get a commercial front load loves it even though she was a little apprehensive at first, after I finished the installation and she ran the first load through it she loved it and other than one v-belt replacement it's been trouble free. Hers is a electronic timer only she uses the coin mechanism set at $.25 and she has the key to the coin box. She saves an average of 18 to 24 dollars a month her her husband and 9 kids. It gets a steady workout.

I live in Little Rock Arkansas, I would love to own the property you have it seems to have very few rocks in it and mostly hardwood down here everything is pine for the most part, my house sits on a small half acre lot which used to have pine trees in it but I was able to get them all cut down and it has probably most of hardwood now, I can see the joy you have in keeping your property the way you like it I would feel the same way I am from New England originally, And would love to on a hardwood covered hundred acres like you have of course I would have to invest in all the equipment you have just to keep it looking good, I would hit that Murray company up again to use that John Deere some more that thing really worked well for you and if you could do some more of your property with it I think you would benefit greatly by having it just another couple weeks maybe you can work some magic and talk to them about it

You could also seed the fresh trails with the disturbed ground with white clover. Clover can take some traffic so depending on how often you ride on it you would have some nice narrow food plots running through all the property. That log is definitely worth a salvage run or perhaps a mill in place & rescue slabs. bol

No offence to you Mike but I can't wait to see Melissa pick up her skirts and scoot around all your new trails. Is there a chance Hunter might one day drive the side by side? It'd be kind of nice to see him take his mum and the dogs for a ride. Maybe if you had a governor on it that you could secretly bypass whenever someone else is driving. I knew of a few farm bikes minus gear levers that the kids could ride and not get into too much trouble.

Mike, It is a nice log. But the beauty of the piece, must be Melissa. I have never seen a log to match her, tall and straight, grace itself. The deer were a nice second. I also saw lots of deadfall. It will be much easier to reach than before the trail work. Keeping all the acres of trail open will be interesting. I predict an even busier summer next year. God Bless you all.

Mike I see what you have been saying about a life time of firewood already on the ground for the taking. Also can't wait to see how you get that big cherry off that hill side. Just be careful doing it.

Well we haven't been as lucky with the nice weather. We had lots of rain here and there for the past few weeks and now we just got 3" of snow over night. Most of it melted today but now wet and sloppy here in Wisconsin.

You are going to have to put trail markers up soon and add signs with trail names and signs at the forks in the trails showing which trail go which way, LOL.

Will you guys do fire wood all winter or do you get a lot of snow?? Will you have to use snow machines to get around the woods? Asking from Idaho 😁
