5F Weld Test Walking the Cup vs Freehand

This is a 5f test that is sometimes given to qualify for fillet welds only.
Not as common as a 6G pipe test but occasionally used as a quick way to qualify a welder for fillet welds like socket welds.
One side freehand and one side walking the cup.
The main goal on a 5f test is to penetrate the root. Any lack of fusion revealed on the macro etch test will fail the test.

I've been a boiler maker and a union pipefitter, and im still learning something from this man, im 48 years old and 28 years as a welder . I started using clear cups from this man's recommendations, so thank you, sir, for giving all ur knowledge for others to learn how to be better

Man, I want to get into this again. Stopped when Covid started. What’s your current set up? Or, what is your recommendation for an affordable start up? I am looking to do pipe and all sorts of other stuff on my own time and hopefully, make a profit once my skills are back up to par.

I have several machines. But for TIG the most affordable setup I know of is a primeweld 225 tig. It has a few drawbacks but is the most affordable and good customer support.

the biggest benefit in my opinion is the extra light to help me see better. If your eyesight is good and you dont have any trouble seeing the puddle, then ceramic cups are fine

Hello body keeps a good work I like the tips and new cups to do Tig welding and Tig is my favorite welding and the bountiful weld and clean finish on all materials the you weld aluminum carbon steelint steel tanks for the input and ideas gad bless and keep a great job 😅😮😅😮
