The short distance of 5G requires many small cell towers to cover the same area as in 4G. This makes the whole infrastructure very vulnerable to the massive hurricanes or storms systems which becomes more common due to climate changes.

I have unlimited data, but after 6 GB , the phone basically gives up and says website can't be reached.

With 6G each of us will literally have a 6G drone assigned to us that will travel with us even indoors :D But hey, you will be able to download an 8k Netflix video in 0.11s compared to 5G's 4 seconds :D Yep, all worth it.

Yeah and I have 4GB in my phone plan in Canada, it'll use up all of it in 30 seconds if I didn't know my wifi was off....

And than you would realize China has more 5G network coverage than the entire world combined, This is what happening nowadays China is pioneering on almost everything on Trend, Just take the example of High-speed rail network and than the biggest building and everything! You name it.

But will it have no data caps and how will it handle the congestion when new connections start coming online. These are real questions that really have not been answered yet. At least that I’ve heard. However, I think 5G could be huge for certain things like potential competition for those stuck with cable or even DSL still. Also, self driving vehicles and certain services like remote pairing with surgical robots, will be important. And 5G will make these things possible with the latency that it will have, not necessarily the bandwidth it will have which will still be great for those watching Netflix during peak hours. But, I still believe wireline will always be better for the most part because communication through a wire is better. It’s just physics. And my cable connection, already at 100/10 (Spectrum) is really fast with already impressive latency of 15 to 30 ms nearly everywhere in the US for the most part. Again, this is good for a cable connection and If I wanted, I could get gig serve already with speeds of up to 940/35. Hopefully in the future the upload will be better which is the promise. But so far, based on everything I’ve seen, my connection is still really good with unlimited data. If could hope for anything from 5G, it would be to bring in some reasonable competition (not DSL) and lower my prices. Then, we would be talking.

I just drives around trip from LV to Coast of California, Oregon, Washington and Vancoure. I have seen my Iphone with AT&T from 5GE to none signal to 4G and even 3G some areas. 5 years later, it might be the same without Huawei equipment.

We will also be getting a new wifi with the 5g called Wi-Gig. The new wifi will be 60ghz, thats insane. People will be begging for this new technology and are more then willing to pay for it with their health.

You know what's crazy? If a hurricane or a storm hits or a disaster, those same 'billions of dollars' will be dumped straight into the trash.

Unfortunately with most technology, especially in telecommunications, first is not always better. Gen one tech might get you on the network but generations down the line hold vast improvements.

Wrong i bet one of the 2 verison or tmobile will have a fast plug and play system that are light and fast to install sense they cant just roll out it is a race to be first first that is built correct

This stupid article doesn’t even tell you how fast 5g will be in comparison not to mention we literally cannot hold 4g at this point, at least sprint in most of the most metropolitan cities.

China will be up and running 5G 1st in the world anyways... testing phases had started last year and is still ongoing to improve... US sanctions did cause disruption on key high tech components that forced China to start making their own as well as Russia is following suit... there has been some limited reversals as it affected US and Europe trade partners...Trump most likely wants the US to be first for 5G products and services... can't cross that bridge only partnerships could achieve a win-win 5G market globally?

I read a story yesterday that said AT&T and TMoblie sent out emails to 5G customers about improving battery life by shutting off 5G. Their 5G capabilities so far is stressing their signal strength. They can't setup the system fast enough.

Internet providers will probably charge s hefty price for this

Dont take the seconds it takes to stabilize the ball in the latency demonstration too seriously. The latency will be shorter but not from 11 seconds to 3 according to that experiment because he flicks the ball with an unknown varied force, this is not a serious experiment.

4G is efficient for media and cellphone services. 5G is more for robotics and autonomous transportation. I mean, how fast do you need to surf the net, stream video, upload pictures and update social media? 5G will mainly be in cities and people are going to pay for it just because its the latest trend to say "I have 5G".

We don't want more microwaves saturating our for now, reasonably green city environment....at least mine is. The safer, more secure, faster, far more energy effecient alternative 'Li-Fi' (light based) is slowly being taken up in schools and corporate offices around the globe. Great to see we still have a few highly intelligent people out there that still want 'smart' cities of the future, but them want to be healthy places also.
