Gary, first of all, thank you so much for answering me so quickly, I am having a rough time with this five or 55 in transmission out of a 2001 jag S tight 3.0, one thing I failed to mention to you is when I pulled the valve body off there was a red spring sitting on top of the main gasket and I’m pretty sure I put it back in the correct place but I wanted to double check with you about that, other than that I just replaced the broken spring for the P0734 and P0735 and put it back together and I’m having a no movement issue and all gears. Thank you.
Gary good video btw. I dont know if you see your comments anymore but Ill try anyways. I have a 2000 jag s type, with shifting problems delayed, not being able to find gears and what not. I have the codes p0734 and p0735. But I also have p0745 (pressure control solenoid a) what does that tend to mean or do you have any suggestions on what I should do.
I didnt realize you have done the video for the 5r55n p0734,p0735 code repair, and I posted one today showing the same stuff. I am going to start uploading a lot of stuff I come across at work.
I threw up a few to start, just stuff that came in today. I am going to do a lot of the newer timing chain/valve seal replacement stuff that guys are starting to see. I have a newer 750li with a 8hp70? in it, and its going to get pulled so I can go through it and find out why it has erratic shifting in the 3-4 shift. I already put a new valve body in back in november, but its still doing weird shift stuff, no codes... I don't know anyone that has opened up an 8hp yet so I am kinda heading into the dark.
I havent yet, but one of my bmw shops got a call on one, so im hoping i can work with them to diagnose it(have to see what the customer wants to do) Gary
That would be a good one to do a video of, for sure. I just find it crazy that this 8hp I am on has such a weird shift condition. One would think it would throw a gear ratio code, VSS, shift valve code, or something. Being that the valve body is soo smart on these, I am a little skeptical, and sort of thinking it could be a program error.
A while ago, one of my first 6hp26 jobs came in with a SV1/SV2 mechanical fault code. So I took the mechatronics off the valve body, and put another valve body on his mechatronics, and the code came back and led me to believe the mechatronics had a problem. I send the guys valve body with mechatronics out to be dyno tested, and they said it was a mechanical problem that they could fix. i couldnt believe it. So I got the unit back and put it in and they put a flash on it with much much higher line pressure, and it shifted like a racecar. The SV1/SV2 code was fixed though.
Hello. I have a Jaguar S type 4.0l V8. The gearbox started behaving strangely. Engine fault P0733 and P0745 ignited. The box was removed and repaired. Converter changed. Errors recurred after typing. No 4 gears. When driving from position "D", switching on "4" does not change either the engine speed or the speed. If I turn at a higher speed and want to accelerate further, there is no gear. If I make a turn, I can run gently. Can there be a spring failure in this case? Sorry I used Google translate. Greetings from Lithuania Thank you
I sold a 2003 Lincoln LS with V8 motor & 5r55s trans 6 months ago. The guy let me know that he has trans problems now, even tho I had just put a brand new solenoid pack on it, and also a Superior shift kit. I scanned it today and got P0734, p0735, and p0795. It also takes a log time to engage in reverse, and sometimes requires an increase in rpm to get it to grab there. what do you think?
If you have gear ratio codes along with pressure solenoid codes(P0795) you have an internal problem, probably with the direct clutch, what happens on the 3-4 shift? The reason why P0795 comes up is because that solenid is responsible for maintaining proper clutch pressure but if the clutch is slipping, the computer is blaming the solenoid. If you have gear ratio error codes, they should be addressed first, solenoid pack will not fix the problem
Hi, Gary! I have the same 2000 v8 S-type throwing a P0741 code and not engaging 5th gear. The guys at the shop replaced the torque converter, but the problem remains. I have a second gearbox which I want to use to replace whatever is broken on mine, so i was wondering, if it's no the solenoid pack, which one of the valves should I look at for not locking up the 5th gear? I've read a lot about this problem on this particular gearbox, and the replacement springs in most of the images there are showing me the one valve on the top right corner(the last one on the right in your video), Sorry if these are newbie questions, I'm not a mechanic but I do struggle to understand how this gearbox works. Thanks!
You may have 2 problems, the P0741 means the converter can no longer fully lock-up, this could be a worn bushing in the pump or stator, or maybe a valvebody problem, If you have no 5th are there any gear ratio codes present?
@@GaryFerraro I don't have a scanner, unfortunately. What happens is it waits for about 10-15 seconds when it wants to engage 5th gear, and instead of shifting it gives me an amber "gearbox fault" message on the dash, no dash light except for this message and the amber light on the left of the screen. I checked it with JLR SDD, which opens it in IDS tools as legacy software and it throws the P0741 code with the IDS description of what it means. It's very-very similar to a video I saw over here on a ford explorer, but that one has an overdrive blinking light on the dash. The gearboxes are very similar, as you probably already know. The symptoms are identical. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ezJ-LLiojwI.html&ab_channel=TransmissionsAmerica%28JohnandEvan%29
@@GaryFerraro I think I'm gonna replace the whole valve body with the one from my second gearbox (that was supposed to replace this one but it got damaged during transport, and it only worked on Reverse, it didn't spin the wheels when Drive was engaged) and see what happens from there. If it works directly, I'll be happy, if it doesn't, I'll go back to the drawing board. I'm already down about 1300 euro because of that in labour and cost of gearbox+transport+duty, so it wouldn't hurt just to try a straight swap given that the guy guaranteed he took it off a perfectly working car. I guess replacing just the tcc modulator valve wouldn't solve the problem since these gearboxes have a common problem with wear at the tcc valve bore. Would that be a bad idea?
A transmission guy told me to buy a solenoid pack . but mine lost 4 and 5th like this. It has 175,000 miles do you think I need a solenoid pack or the spring.
Hello, I have been watching some of your videos about the 5R55W/S transmission, I have a problem with an Explorer 2004 V8 RWD when scanning the computer gives me these codes P0733, P0745 and P1744, what would you recommend me to do? A few days ago this transmission was rebuil
I have a tool that will issue protons brand of turkey istanbul, model 1998 Mitsubishi motor motor vehicle automatic gearbox problem I'm working, but I'm not moving very slowly an automatic transmission did new car, but cıktı solenoid problem does occur, how do we solve, you must help me
It won't shift into 4th or 5th...tries to, but won't stay there, and comes back to 3rd. I will have to pull the valve body off again and inspect it. Maybe there is a broken spring, or a metal fragment that is screwing something up. Thanks
yes, that is a common problem with this trans, sorry for some reason i was thinking 5R55S not 5R55N, with the 5R55N valvebody spring is most likely broken sonnax sells the replacement spring
+JayRue You cant buy it from sonnax(i cant even buy from them) you have to go to a transmission parts supplier WWW.Transtar1.com you can get it from them. Gary Thanks for watching, please subscribe
@@GaryFerraro no engine code! i have change new solenoid pack, clean the body valve shift kit and no stuck, i have change forward servo, change direct clucth seal and coast clucth seal, i have change all priction plat 17 pieces. but no fix the problem! always no 2 and 3 gear... what the problem with my 5r55w trans?
Hi Gary, what do you think the likley cause of 5R55N Stype bangs into drive and no reverse , no codes , reverse piston is good , solonoid pack passes the ohm test , reverse band not broken , no broken springs in the VB
I have been searching as to find all individually as to maybe a case you can buy at napa auto but cant seem to find the compression in inch pounds or what ever. Just working with little money being Christmas time and im laid off for now.
+Matt Parker If the gasket is intact, leave it. If not try soaking it in hot water, but it may have to stay in there awhile. They are a real pain to come off.
+Matt Parker There on there good, if you have access to air tools, get a sanding disk(or as they call them cookies) and get it off that way. is at least one side intact?
Gary Ferraro - i have a 2003 ford explorer xls 4.0 engine. It had a lag when shifting from first to second, after that it ran fine. one day, i started the truck and it wouldn't move forward nor reverse. i have a code for solenoid b, i replaced solenoid pack and still no movement.
When you put the pan back up, how much fluid did it take? you did a first and second fill(1st fill, add til it runs out, 2nd fill start engine and add till runs out.)
Can I get your email to send a picture? Was putting in the valve body and a spring fell I have no idea were it came from please help it's a orange reddish spring
