Just wanted to say thank you for the great information in this video. I'm actually a Honda technician and a customer with this gen camaro came in with the same problem. So I'm putting a new reman engine in tomorrow. So being I never work on these cars I'm just doing some homework and preparing mentally a strategy to get this done. And this has been a extremely helpful video so I can go to work tomorrow confident. Thanks for the great tips
Very useful information. I recently spun a main on my v6 because I'm young and dumb. And now I'm going threw the process of replacing the engine entirely. I'm assuming it's a gonna be a bitch to do so. But I feel if I stick to torque specs and mark everything with tape . And a little research . I'd be able to do so. I may not have a lift . So I'm gonna be yanking the bitch from the top. But I definitely know I'm in a shit show
Man that ink on your right arm is too cool! The scull piston. I've seen and heard of several with the lifter failure wiping out bearings? Do you think lack of service is the biggest reason? Man I change my oil in my Ls truck every 2500 miles and have since new.
This is from "MY" experience but yes, I feel alot of it has to do with proper maintenance. You do have some jobs where it was the lifters fault but most of the time it's due to dirty oil, slug in the galleys, from crappy maintenance. And thanks for the compliment on the tattoo.
No one answers me when I ask what is the benefit of driving it out number one most people don’t have a car lift and number two you just have extra space taken up by the entire sub frame you still have to disconnect the suspension and steering and then you’re gonna have to take the motor off of the frame to work on it and you still need to disconnect everything else anyway so what is the point it seems like more work the hardest part is maneuvering it out of the top I’m seriously asking can someone please help me understand is it hard to get out of the top or something I need to pull mine out that’s why I’m asking
Honestly dropping the subframe out is so much easier than out the top on THIS car. It's doable either way but IF you have a lift available to you why would you not do it this way? In a driveway I would have pulled it out the top yes.
I'm sure my dad would agree with you. I myself have worked on all types of SBCs and owned both the old school SBC and the new LS engines. I believe each has a place and should be appreciated. They are both power houses and each has their pros and cons.
