Yes this is true... I've raced a A8 ss 6 gen and a 2018 gen 3 6sp coyote and there surprised when im reeling past them ..... i mean when you mod the newer ones they are faster... but they should be
Sweet video. I'm a die-hard JDM guy but I've been eyeing the 5th Gen SS for a little bit. I feel like the 5th gens are a bargain nowadays, and with a few mods, they can see mid to high 400whp. Those are respectable numbers for casual drivers.
I got at 2012 2SS with 3:73 lsd posi it’s got a 619/624 113lsa cam 1 7/8 header with an x pipe and j pipes and a 93 tune it’s making 525 wheel hp and 502 tq And yes I have the value springs and push rods needed
@@mogulme6190 no I’m running the factory heads. I would need a bigger cam to take any real advantage of them other then a mild change in compression ratio the factory heads already flow 315 cfm The only mod that I forgot was a cat delete and a wide band o2 sensor
My friend, I think you also have suspension mods on your 5th gen right (coilovers?) That would actually help slightly by reducing bounce on launch and during shifts
Should be about the same tbh. A 2010 LS3 with headers and CAI would give about a 26-30 HP increase. Whereas the 6 gen LT1 Camaros are at 455 HP. The 2010 LS3 is rated at 426 for the manual. Theoretically both should have about the same power if the 6th gen is not modded. However the 6th gen driver doesn’t seem experienced with his car yet.
This is a little off because the 5 gen camaro is a half car ahead and the driver in the 6 gen is a bad driver for racing. If I was driving he would never win
That's why I went with the early 5th gen 2SS RS as well, bought mine back in 2014, (completely modified now) she's my garage kept weekend warrior....It's what a Camaro should look like, representing it's 1st gen roots...I also love the LS3 engine, very strong and mod friendly....not to mention, the leather seats, the halo lights, yeah 6th gen is obviously better in terms of performance but I still think the early 5th gens blows it overall out of the water ! 5th gen for life ! the LS3 is more reliable, stronger, and simple, and responds well to modifications, and to modify a 5th is more simple and cost efficient compared to the 6th gens....you can get some big bangs for your buck
Stock vs stock or Mod vs mod the 6th Gen will always be faster, even on the turns it will be faster. I use to have a 6th gen, it was a fun car but Now have a 5th gen ZL1. 5th gen has a more muscle look and it’s definitely much faster thanks to the supercharger.
@@reyesprofits stock vs stock they about the same but top end the 5th gen ZL1 takes it but it won’t be consistent as the 6th gen SS cause the supercharger will heat soak. But if you plan on modding just get a ZL1. My 5th Gen ZL1 isn’t stock, makes about 720whp.
I mean LS parts are cheaper then LT parts I mean the block strength is the same but yea theoretically if the LT maintains VVT I could make more low end tq but I’m not a millionaire so yeah (not saying you have to be a millionaire to mod a 6th gen)
I own a 13 2ss rs m6 npp blue ray metallic . It has 20k miles. Iv installed kooks 1 7/8 longtubes with off road cats. Also installed a cold air inductions intake. Real ZL1 wheels. On a mustang dyno i put down 415whp. Currently im installing a single turbo with meth injection, turbo controller and a jms fuel pump booster along with a ZL1 fuel pump bucket assembly. Planning on about 10lbs boost. Im guessing around 650whp. Enjoyed the vid.
They should run side by side like the 6:48 race. When my 13 1LE was FBO my wife purchased a 22 1LE with the A10. I would always jump out about 1/2 car and then that was the race. Nobody was able to pull.
They look pretty even. I would guess the real difference is in driver skill. One might be a slow lazy shift and / or shifting at peak HP vs shifting at readline. I good driver can feel when the car does not pull that hard at a certain RPM and perform a gear change. Another driver will need the visual indicator of the tachometer reaching 6,500 RPM before shifting . Peak HP and torque might actually be at 5,500 RPM. So you're wasting time dragging it out another 1,000 RPM.
Stock 6 has HP and weight advantage. Once mods are introduced, comparisons are meaningless. I have not seen one real road test that shows a G5 faster than a G6.
Its like any platform comparison (even between generations of the same platform)...its cost:power ratio. Personally, i think the 5th gen in this video looks better, is prob a ton cheaper by now, and including the cost of upgrades, is still way cheaper. But if you want a fast, nearly stock new one under warranty, and have the cash, the 6th gen is obviously a better buy out the door because once you add $3k or so in mods, it'll easily walk away from any non-boosted 5th gen. Both awesome cars, makes me miss my Camaros (3rd gen 92 Z28 and 4th gen Z28)...but now I'm in a big turbo Focus ST that would have some fun with both of these ^_^
That’s funny because I have a 4th gen ls1 and I had a focus st full bolt on and tuned I sold it for a bigger vehicle for the family. Was a fun little car
@@gvaspirated That comment made my day man! You seem like a pretty cool guy. The “irrational” part had me 😂. Yeah who knows, maybe the channel needs a corvette now instead? 🤔
Is the 6th gen even utilizing the no lift shift? Doesnt look like hes going through the gears fast enough should basically go thru like auto id u doing it right i have ss it was bone stock and i ran few bolt on ls3 5th gens similar mods had no issue drivermod definitely
can anybody maybe tell me the issue with my 5th gen radio? i turn my car on & it flashes on & off & than it works & while im driving if i hit any sort of bump or do a sharp turn itll turn completely off
I had literally both cars 10 speed lt1 and 2015 Ss same mods as 5th gen the 5th gen was Def a better car but I felt like 10 speed was faster got rid of the lt1 in 2 months because I thought the 5th gen was so much better
LT1 is still better stock for stock 6.2L v8 455 crank wheel they like 390 395 ish 5th gens I think are 360 sum and lighter but bolt on for bolt on 6th Gen will get it especially if it’s the A10
I mean yeah ofc man. The point of the video was really to show what you need to be close to or better than a stock LT1 motor hahaha. The moment you mod the LT1 it's a different story haha.
If be was driving a Z06 Vette, he would have found a way to lose as well. Reminds me of the time I beat a 911 Turbo from a dig with my base C6 15 years ago. The monkey behind the wheel was probably made from the same cloth as this guy. I own a fbo cammed Gen 5 so I usually don't waste time and fuel on 6th gens but this was definitely a victory for the 6th gen in this video. A loss for the 6th gen driver though.
Comparing apples to oranges the 6 gen is faster but ur 5th gen goes for sure. I owned a 5th gen still own my 6 gen. I love my 6 gen handling and ride is better. But loved the interior better on my 5 more room.
This isn't a good way to do this comparison. The driver of the LT1 obviously was missing gears and there was barely even a clean run in the whole thing. Do this with an LT1 owner who is more experienced with the manual or compare two autos.
You need to get your ss tuned! I guarantee you with the mods you got your only about 380 hp after a tune not no 450 hp not even close. Majority of stock SS are lucky to be 360 maybe 370. I love my 2013 ss but it’s disappointing when Chevy claims they are 426 hp. 😢.
Your getting confused with wheel and crank hp. His wheel hp is prob around 360-370 that’s equates to around 430 crank. The new LT1 and SS camaros put down 380-390 wheel which is around 450 at the crank. If he got tuned with his mods he would prob make 390 or 400 wheel which is 450-470 range
Bro whos mom was driving the LT1? Whoever it was can't drive! Stock rear wheels on LT1 need to go back on when racing and get a new driver when you do speed comparisons
The LT1 driver doesn’t know how to drive that car period!! Such disgrace to the 6th Gen LT1. I’m not gonna zonk your video because of it. You know the LT1 has the same engine as the SS and there’s no way the outcome would be the same with a different driver.
The 6th gen driver needs to go back to school for training. He has made us 6th gen camaro owners look bad. This guy would never beat me in my 2022 2ss camaro 10speed automatic that's for sure
@1sickss I had 4 speed Trans all my life but this is the latest in racing with a paddle shift at the steering wheel. Back my days I raced with 4 speed and power shifted through the gears with no problem. If you had a magneto distributor then you sometimes have to kick start your car. I am all aware of standard transmission but today it's automatic 10speed.
@@gilbertahsam643 A 5th Gen running bolt ons without a cam will not beat a 6th gen Camaro...guy in the LT1 can't shift...its almost as if he's new to driving a manual.
5th gen still way better to look at, newer Camaros just look like any other car on the road these days IMO. Would never sell my 2010 for a newer one. Mine is LS3 and same bolt ons as you. Cool vid
5th gen imo is the most beautiful sports car and nothing comes close. besides vettes but that’s a no brainer. 6th gen is right behind bc the front end is attrocious
@@TheGunGuy77 You mess with the engine in any capacity I consider that heavily modified, otherwise a tune wouldn't be necessary. Are capable of having a discussion without emojis like a child ? Drove my friends 5th gen SS stock many times. Now I have a 6th gen. 6th gen is the better machine in every way. I don't let my feelings or emotions dictate my rational thoughts.
I have owned both the 2015 2SS and now the 2023 2SS both automatics. The 2023 hands down is a faster car. Stock vs Stock. As far as looks I prefer the 2023. You are comparing apples,to oranges here an SS PACKAGE VS LT1 PACKAGE. The SS FRONT clip is different than the LT1. That’s a little disingenuous. Show a frontal picture of a 6th gen SS and a 5th gen SS. That’s apples to apples.
