FYI those aren't recovery points, they're tie downs for transporting the truck. Lot of information out there why they shouldn't be used as such.
@VikingsGarage
@VikingsGarage Год назад
See the problem is, I called it a recovery point instead of tie down, but let me ask you this: If you are in a pickle and you don’t have many options: What’s best, 1 tie down hook or 2 tie down hooks? ( RU-vid is a very unforgiving platform, God Forbid you slip in any way, although you’re only just trying to pass on your knowledge; someone will find a way to point out your every flaw) Sorry for the rant, sometimes it just gets to be a bit much. I do very much appreciate you watching the video and supporting this tiny yet thriving channel!! Wishing you an awesome day!
@andy.bernard
@andy.bernard Год назад
@@VikingsGarage If you were in a situation where they were your only way out then definitely use them as recovery points. Completely understand the unforgiving part, wasn't trying to be an ass or anything. Toyota kind of shot themselves in the foot, to the unbeknown as they look like recovery points, no idea why they didn't put factory ones on a vehicle marketed as an off road truck. It's not a big deal, you make a lot of videos, maybe something to include in a future video or something. Would just hate to see someone use them religiously as a recovery then someday it just snaps and sends the hook flying through the air. Just read something about someone using a ball hitch incorrectly and it lasered the hitch through the windshield and killed the guy. Just be safe out there!
@VikingsGarage
@VikingsGarage Год назад
I hear, no hard feelings. I will correct that in a future video, because we both know that I knew that part is actually labeled as a tie down. No argument there. Yes I saw the ball hitch thru the windshield accident. It’s very sad indeed.

Awesome channel . It sounds great love your 4Runner. You should buy “3m cavity wax” with the 360 applicator wand kit. Spray it into all the holes on your frame give it a nice coating from front to back. It works very good and prevents/stops rust. Believe me we use it every day in the collision repair industry after repairing a vehicle to preserve our work.

I added the TRD exhaust and CAI last year on my 18 ORP. Love it! Also man… in New England the battle with rust! My frame is like new due to bi yearly applications of Woolwax and the only thing corroding is that infamous exhaust flange, the one after the Cat before the muffler. And how do you fix that OEM, new Cats. 🤦🏻‍♂️ But local junkyard said I could get a good amount for my old Cats. That helps. Keep up the great videos!

Two issues with the TRD exhaust: If you offroad, it is in a worse spot than the non-TRD exhaust (crushes exhaust tip when rolling off a rock with the passenger side rear wheel). But the worst part is the drone coming from the exhaust at interstate cruising speed rpm. Way louder in the cabin and not in a pleasant throaty way. Changes the feel inside the cab, at highway speed, for the worse. (Edit: Just saw your later video that you now find the TRD exhaust to drone too much on the highway and now don't recommend it. I agree. )

I have a 2020 TRD Pro with the cat back exhaust. I added the passenger side recovery point as well. On the CB exhaust...I think it is supposed to give you a little better fuel economy and add some extra low end torque (I don't remember the exact specs on it). I also noticed that with the rear seats in the normal position (seat backs up) it's a little more quiet than with the rear seats in the flat position (for carrying cargo/stuff). I do prefer the CB exhaust over the regular exhaust system. Good call...I think you'll be happy with it. (And having 3 recovery points versus 4 always bugged me...I just knew if I needed recovery it would be needed on the rear passenger side...Murphy's Law is still in effect).

The receiver hitch shackle is a "recovery point". The loop that you call recovery point is a "tie down" point. It will work for a gentle tug, but if you are really stuck, that tie down will fail. It is not WLL (Working Load Limit) rated.

Found your channel a few weeks ago and just catching up on your vids. Love em I'm very interested in picking up a 4Runner as I plan to drive it for the next 10-15 years trouble free since Toyota has a reputation as such. question: what do you feel about KROWN style (oil drip) rustproofing these vehicles. I'm in Toronto so we get a lot of snow, but more so, we use a lot of salt on the roads...
@VikingsGarage
@VikingsGarage Год назад

@@VikingsGarage Perfect, will do thanks. is there a method you prefer in your experience in a winter driven 4Runner? Krown (oil drip) vs the spray undercoat style? Personally I've always believed the undercoat just traps moisture to the frame accelerating problems, but I could be wrong.

@VikingsGarage I have a used trd sport muffler for my 2015 lifted Scion xB. It keeps nice and sharp and more oem look. But I made it a little louder but more enjoyable to drive, so I have oem resonator delete and replace and weld with 23” 2.5” cherrybomb glasspack. And it sounds way nicer and how a trd cat-back exhaust should sound like it came as a factory. Now I want to go more. And now I get two options with my own vision for custom exhaust built. Either stick to trd, but I want to make a custom 2.5” exhaust. And find another exhaust tip with the embossed trd plate that’s welded on the double wall exhaust tip, and make it more proper trd dual exhaust. Or should I go for a clean custom single right side exhaust, and to go more crazy. I’m gonna use the exhaust merge collector for more insane look of it? I’m stuck between the two lol. I’m a huge fan of trd. And also a fan of crazy built lol: So what do u prefer in ur opinion? Keep trd or go crazy?
