If you have ever wanted an ACOG but it was just too expensive, this will probably be a good option to look into. I admit it will not have as high-end glass or components, but for the price and weight, it's a great contender.

The ACOG is nice, but the eye relief is the only reason I'll never get one. My issued one has hit my in the eyebrow so many times shooting prone.

I never had an issue with an ACOG but I always ran an offset for a red dot. I’ve never been a fan of the increased height with mounting something on top of a scoped optic
@jeffheyer7783
@jeffheyer7783 15 дней назад
@@jdwar11same… I think the idea is kind of dumb… extra weight, extra stuff to snag, that and unless you are running drills or doing competition I don’t see the point of the Red dot on top.. I think the top is good for competition. But if you really want someone cqb, with long range capability, the Side mount is better.

Acog killer, idk. Acog is literally bomb proof and no optic can take more beating than an acog. Fact. Replace red dots? Yes and no. A prism optic requires the same cheek weld every time, a red dot doesnt.

Smart fella. I invested heavy in ACOG when my eyes were still sharp. 52 now. Astigmatism magically comes as a gift for your 50th birthday. Swapped out all ACOGs for PA prisms. ACOGS are wonderful. Don’t get me wrong. But having the ability to adjust the aperture for astigmatism is golden. Primary Arms and Trijicon are both great US companies, but until ACOGs provide eyepiece adjustment, I just can’t do them. And yes, young fellers. You will have this issue at some point, God willing. You’ll want clear Sharp glass and to be able to see a crisp reticle rather than I giant red or green supernova.

ADM and Unity make solid microprism mounts. This particular setup, I'd run with no red dot and use bindon aiming. Magnification is high enough to forgo 1-6x and probably 1-8x, making this a stud of an optic.

I have 4 of the P.A. micro prisms and I love them great replacement for my red dots. Now I ordered two of the red mounts and I have nothing good to say about the mounts. I put one on my truck gun and after a month of it being tossed around it ended up warping on me. So until they make them stronger I will not be purchasing another one. The second one I put on my 3x micro prism and that set up is on my 308 Encore Pro Hunter hunting rifle. As long as you don't hard bump the mount your good. That's been my experience. Now the PA micro prisms are bomb proof I would choose the 1x, 3x, or the 5x over the ACOG any day. I have a 1x on my 308 SCAR and it's still going strong.

Prisms, and ACOGs especially, are a tried and true option. Especially for lightweight builds. Excellent video my dude! Personally, I prefer an MPVO. Something mid tier, like a USO TS-12x at 18 oz, or a Shepherd Rugged 3-9x at around 19 oz, coupled with a top mounted dot. Its heavier, yes. Its larger, yes. But you're gaining a better mounting solution for that true 1x, better optical clarity at the same magnifications, more maximum magnification and a better eyebox/eye relief. You lose field of view, but can make that up by running on minimum magnification. It's around the same price with the dot and a mount if you catch the scopes on sale. When it comes to firearms, just remember. There are no perfect solutions, only trade-offs. Find what works for you, and run it. If you cant afford to experiment, train with what you have.
@brianmoore1164
@brianmoore1164 4 месяца назад
Worth noting that it would also make the perfect little scope to mount to a lightweight hunting rig. Not so huge that it uglies up a small light hunting rifle and not so heavy that it ruins a handy carbine.

My local range only goes to 25 yards, but figured that was a good start for a zero till I could make the hour drive to an outdoor range. Came back two weeks later, and it was 6" low at 25 yards. Re-zeroed then came back the following week and it was off again. Finally contacted PA and sent it back. They confirmed it was beyond repair & sent me a new one. Which promptly did the same thing. I didn't even bother returning the 2nd one. And for info, the back-up sights stayed zeroed throughout the whole process. Don't think I'll be buying another PA sight any time soon.

I swear your reviews always come at the right time for me, crazy lol. I was JUST looking at these last week, I have been debating between a 3x and 5x PA, I'm currently running a holosun red dot + 5x magnifier its a great setup but the weight, bulk, and eye relief leaves a lot to be desired, wondering if it would be prudent to upgrade to a 5x prism only as my primary sighting system, I've never ran prisms before and for some reason I've shy'ed away from LPVO's on a primary fighting "go-to" rifle mostly for durability and size and bulk, I'm looking at sort of a do-all rifle for 250 yards and in. 90% of my shooting is under 100 yards, I get by with red dot most of the time but that extra magnification for PID can go a long way I know, and if I need to stretch out more in a pinch I'd like the ability to do so, 3x might not be enough magnification I'm thinking, where 5x I love my magnifier but it's gotten me into trouble in the last match I ran it in, had it mounted too far forward when I took it off and put it back on again, if I'm doing anything other than static shooting it's very difficult to get a proper sight picture out of such a tight eye box. Kinda want to try a 5x and see what all the fuss is about I feel like it would split the difference for me for what I'm looking for, mid range magnification with fast point shooting characteristics.
@PreparedAirman

I would definitely recommend the reddot mount if you are using your rifle more within 100m but want the capability to PID more effectively with the magnification. 3x wouldn't be a bad option.

I have this and still not sure if I like it. I mounted it on a SFAR. The idea that I had was to have to a super lightweight AR10 platform that can still potentially be capable out to 800 meters. It's is certainly lightweight thats for sure but I don't have much trigger time on it yet.

I really wish PA would make a long eye relief prism optic. I'd love to mount one on an SKS sight block adapter like a Soviet scout rifle.

They just made one. Glx x1 micro prism. I suspect in the future they will release other models.

Try the slx 1x full size. Has better eye relief than the micro. I mounted that up in the handguard of my ar for kicks and it worked fine. I did move it back to the receiver though, only because it felt wrong for it to be out on the handguard. Lol😂

Something i dont like is if you get snow or rain in your mini reflex sight it messes with the dot and now its useless. Even if you try and clean it. Would prefer an enclosed mini red dot

Just got the 3-18x50 ACAS Apollo for my AR10 .308. It's very impressive and very inexpensive. Looks like Primary Arms is the next up and coming. Hopefully the prices won't go up as popularity increases. Obviously Trijicon and other higher dollar Optics are better but for the money Primary Arms is doing a great job coming up with new stuff.

I would love to hear a detailed discussion about the eye relief of this 5x prism. I have found that as power goes up on these prism sights, the eye relief gets very constraining and short. If that is not the case for these, then that is a feat. Super short eye relief is not a big deal for most AR applications, as you can bring the optic all the way back to your nose- but if this had a slightly longer eye relief, I could picture a number of R700 short action [suppressed] applications where it might work well, too.

The ACOG has 1.5 inches of eye relief. The 5x micro prism actually has 2.6 inches. It is almost double the ACOG.

I want one, but they need to start making them as Amber/Gold dots as standard. Most men have some kind of red/green colorblindness or astigmatism - amber dots cover all of those bases.

Most prisms are like that. The only one I've found with really good eye relief is the primary arms 2x. The 3.5x35 ACOG is much better.

I just cant get over how flimsy the red dot mount is. They really need to beef that up if they want it to contend with an acog. I've seen them bend out of shape from a small drop.

Other utube reviewers have shown that the 12 o'clock mount isn't very durable. The optic itself is intriguing.
