Honestly from watching videos on youtube especially Bill I've noticed that the issue with the 6.0 diesels isn't the vehicle itself it's the ownership! Sorry but to many ppl in this country have to much money and don't care bout what they have and just waste money. I recently bought a 2006 Ford F350 6.0L used and it's my baby I've I've put in so much work into it and I hope to put in alot more. I seriously enjoy owning my truck working on it and making it last as long as possible! I love your videos Bill I've learned so much from your channel I truly appreciate all your knowledge and wisdom!
I know this post is several months old, but there is a saying I say to customers when they bring there vehicle in for work, "If you take care of your vehicle, then the vehicle will take care of you.". I tell customers that if you have a simple minor issue, bring it up and fix it. like a light bulb out, or whatever. if something is not right. get it fix right there and then. don't wait until more bad things start breaking.
clys69 thats not true my guy the vt365 is more reliable than the 6.0l ford didnt tweak the 365 its international through and through, its also much weaker than the 6.0l hence why its more reliable just take the 365 and add more hp and tq and you have a 6.0l which is a major fault point cause the engine is pushing more power than it was originally designed
You are one of the few great people in this world that are trying to help people and at the same time keep them out of your shop. Yet you still love to help people even though its keeping money out of your pocket. Your a great man.
Everyone that is thinking of buying or already have a 6.0 need to watch this. They are awesome trucks if maintained properly. Almost to 200k on mine with stock turbo, injectors and oil cooler the 3 main things everyone has break, no bullshit.
It's neat seeing all these 6.0 videos pop up on your channel. Just bought a 2006 F350 manual transmission about a month ago. Added an SCT Livewire TS and its been good to me.
Hi Bill, Two weeks ago I was driving down the highway on my 05 F350 (62,000 miles) and the engine died. Tried to start it and cranks but no start. Had it towed to one shop but did not feel comfortable with the Mechanics there so took it home. Several mechanics told me the problem is 6.0 and I need to get rid of the truck as fast as I can. I watched your videos and with the help of a good powerstroke mechanic I think I will keep it. Thank you!
i watch alot of your videos and they have helped clear alot up for me and what i can do for my truck and my6.0 and just wanted to say thank you alot i take plenty of notes keep up the great work you do !
iam a retire auto tech work on big diesel engines puerto rico usa dry dock we did maintenance on coast guard chips with 2 16 cylinder turbo diesel. will love to work with a person like you you know what you taking about and a great help even with experience people like me. great job i been learning you are a great teacher. i have my ford 2006 f 350 6.0 and the cam was hammer lifter came apart all the rolling pins destroy the oil pump housing on my garage at home i remove the engine by the front very easy. dont have to lift the body install stage2 rcd cam all the updates push rods, updated oil cooler every part is motorcraft felpro gaskets head gasket 220,000 psi swag performance head studs rated 220,000. i just finishing got all videos and photos i buy on e bay and yi save a ton of money completed job about 2,800 on parts wll love to work on this truck no especial tools needed got my tools thank you for this you deserve the credit.
I'm always looking for power that does not increase cylinder pressure. Like all boosted engine we have found that opening up the exhaust helps the power band significantly.
The big thing is water condensing in the motor and fouling the oil, same for fuel tanks. As long as the truck is run periodically and allowed to warm up fully you should be able to stretch the time intervals. I would recommend oil testing if you have any reservations about your oil quality.
Dad has a 04 350 just hit over 200,000 never had any problems. We do construction so it doesn't get babied....delo oil all the way every 7500 miles. Definitely gonna have it in your shop sometime soon and have you get us over 500k!!!!!
No question and there are other filters out there that will work BUT they have to have the patent number printed on them (cost more) or they will not work correctly.
Good video! Bottom line... Preventative maintenance is needed on every vehicle. I've used many different brands and I've come to conclusion that it doesn't matter which brand you use as long as your doing ''preventative maintenance''. Good point about using factory filters during warranty period ford ALWAYS tries to get out of warranty work.... Soooo, after that period use what you feel comfortable with just make sure u take care of your 3-F's. Keep up great vids!
I was told by a mechanic to use Motorcraft 10w30 diesel oil because a thinner oil and better for the injectors and helps with cold starts. What’s your opinion on that?
Rotella T6, 5w40, Archoil and OEM filter every 8000KM religiously. Coolant flush every 50000km, diffs and tranny every 75000km. After 200000 km, northern Alberta oilfield service, I've had to do brakes, batteries, an alternator and drag link. Honest to God, take care of them properly, they will take care of you!
Hi Bill. Love your videos! Thanks for doing them. I was just wondering at about what mileage should you consider not putting a synthetic like rotella t6 in the 6.0l if it's never had a synthetic in it before, or is that just a myth? I have an 03 F550 with 62k miles on it. Thank you!
yes bill now I got it it's alive again I spray some wd40 in the air intake and after several cranking start next fuel filters change happen I know how to fix it Thanks bill
It has alot to do with how it is stored. A full tank of fuel will last a very long time. A half or worse yet a quarter full tank will go bad very quickly depending on humidity and temperature changes during the course of the day. In the South where it is humid much of the time. If you have a 90F day and a 70F night the damp air will get into the tank vent and at night water will condense out of the air onto the cooler walls of the tank. But if the tank is full this will not be so bad.
Hi Bill, great videos, I just bought an 03 with a 6.0 and although the video is older I wanted to know if you still hold Stanadyne as the fuel additive you would recommend. Thx!
My 2003 6.0 has been struggling in the North Dakota Oil Field with 60 below zero temperatures. I fashioned a make-shift cardboard winter front (Ford offers no below zero winter protection). If I do not keep the engine heater plugged in, forget about starting it at 20 degrees above zero. Helps somewhat, but do you have any recommendations? Fluids-Oil adjustment? Any suggestions on giving my 2003 6.0 crew cab severe sub zero tolerance besides don't go there?
common oil pan leak is at the point where the pan takes the sharp turn from the rear of the pan. try to tighten the oil pan bolts other wise the pan has to be removes and resealed.
Hey Bill. I greatly appreciate all the knowledge you have passed on through your videos! I was curious about oil changing intervals. I'm constantly hearing different milages to change my oil, whether conventional or synthetic. I use amsoil 15-40 and would prefer to get my money out of it. What would you suggest? Thanks
We have a 2004 F-350 that has 167 000 miles and it makes the odd knocking when its started cold, also on rare occasions it chugs when it idles, although once the engine is revved it goes away. Was wondering what these two issues may be? Your videos are incredible, thank you for sharing your experience!
Hi Bill, I appreciate all your videos. They have been extremely helpful. I have a late 1999 F-350 that has this slight ticking noise from under the hood. You can hear it fairly well listening from under the front fenders. It seems to get a bit louder as the truck gets warmer. The sound is very similar to that distinctive Ford click when the heater is on. Its not a constant tick. In a minutes time, it probably ticks 25 times. Could this be the start of an exhaust leak? Thank you
Bill, I'm looking at getting my first Diesel and have been looking at your videos on what can be done with the 6.0's and what I need to know about them. This is a silly question maybe I come from the gasoline world, but the Rotella T6 Oil, is there one for a Gas engine and one for a Diesel engine, or what grade specifically do I need to look for in Diesel engine oil that differentiates it from a gas engine.
have a truck we use for work it is an 05 f250 6.0l and we do our own oil changes on it. all the truck has ever had since brand new was napa conventional 10w40 oil. We had the oil pump go out on us a couple years ago wonder if this contributed to it?
Bill, Great videos Thank you! Have you tried Justice Brothers ? I have tested it against all the Diesel additives you are showing...JB outperformed all in tests. As a water dispersant, cetane improver and injector maintenance it has no rivals. They also have a Product called “Heavy Duty Vehicle” oil additive. Best on the market... outperformed all others in tests.im a former JB Rep. It is a Professional Product... sometimes you can find it at a local NAPA, or call a JB distributor.
Bill I need a better flowing head something with higher cfm but no turbulent air. Please do an episode on performance upgrades. I love looking at people's faces when my 6.0 outruns their prized possessions
Awesome video. Have my oil change by A soul called diesel mechanic and and a week later my truck shut off truck shut off I checked the dipstick dipstick and it doesn't read any oil at all. I went down Bought me some T6 Going to go to Ford and buy the Ford filter And rechange the oil myself
Great Video.. Some people tell me that fuel additives are a waste of money, I disagree if used correctly. I know you use Amsoil stuff and wondered what your take is on the new diesel additive labeled as a cleaner/lubricant for common rail systems.
I have a 7.3 1996 f-350. I have a oil leak coming down from the starter or above the starter. I think u may know where it may be coming from? Thanks for ur time and ur videos.
Since this is an old video and I don't see any recent oil use recommendations, I want to ask you if there are any newer oils that are now on the market (that maybe don't shear as easily as T6 does)? (I have a 05 6.0 w/ a stock engine that has 100k on it.)
I have never used anything but Ford filters on my 05 f250. I have never run anything other than schaeffers 7000 15-40 synthetic blend in my truck except this last service, I put schaeffers 9000 5-40 full synthetic in it (Wisconsin, starts awesome down to -5 (coldest so far) without plugging in. cranks like you just shut it off). I've changed my oil at 17-18k every time (or every 3-4 weeks) and have run a few samples and they all come back looking like the oil is new yet, but I dump it anyhow. I'm shooting for 20k on the 9000. Every drop of fuel that truck has seen since I purchased it has had Schaeffers Diesel Treat 2000 Diesel Premium recommended amount in it, even in the -30/-40 deg f winter temps. I purchased the truck with 69,500 mi and I just turned over 160k. I have never had a fuel issue (still running original injectors tested good today) and the only oil issue I've had was the hipo pump at 94k. I love the schaeffers products and swear by them, along with the ford filters.
BIll, having watched this video, how do you compare the Archoil Fuel Additive to these? You did not discuss cetane content in Archoil, but you did talk about combustibility. I took the Archoil challenge, and loved it. But I wonder about cetane after watching this video.
Hi Bill, I love your videos and i have learned a LOT from them, I have 2007 F350, do you think its a good idea to change an EBPS Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor for better MPG, or is it a waste of money? Thanks
We had a 6.0 on the farm we used too run 10-30 all the time we used too get 190 000 km on stock injectors sometimes we wouldn't get around too changing till every 10 000- 15000 km per oil change
Hi bill i had a controversial question about diffrent weight oils for you. I live in illinois and it can get below zero from time to time and i want a oil that is good for summer and winter. What weight do you recomend? Or should i change to a lower in the winter and heavier in the spring? Thank you for your time
Bill i have a got a question, I know you talk about having a Coolant filter and in some of your videos you show that you replace many oil coolers in your bulletproofing packages. My question is what do you think about the Bullet Proof Diesel remote oil cooler and the remote oil filter. Is it worth looking into or would it be wise to stay away from it and just run their EGR cooler? I live in South Texas where outside temps reach 95*F+ year round.
hey Bill i may be buying a 2006 king ranch every option on it with 115k, egr delete and headstuds already done for 21k.. is that a decent deal? btw would it be bad to do everything in this video in one day? thanks i really appreciate it and ive watched almost every video you have! great stuff
Hey Bill, have a question for you. Have you seen any of your customer's running bio-diesel in the 6.0? Have they had any issues or needed to change the fuel filter more or install an additional filter? Been reading about it on some forums and a lot of people have said they have been using bio-diesel with out an issue. Just was wondering from a mechanics stand point. Thanks Thomas
I don't know to many trans shops that recommends a fill fluid trans change other than filter and pan . Due to the pressure increase from a full fluid change
I have got to admit I wish I had been introduced to your videos in 2007 or 2008, after I bought my 6.0 2007 truck, I’m sure I would have saved a ton of time and money. Great videos!!! My question is do you have a video out the how to install the coolant filter, I am going to get one from sinister diesel and could use the help? I would be surprised if you responded, I know you guys are busy.
Just wondering if the Ford Motorcraft fuel filter has the special membrane to remove water would installing a separate fuel/water separator still be a good idea? I think a few years and a many videos ago you mentioned a particular brand of marine diesel grade fuel/water separator as being a very good idea if you wanted to protect your motor. I'm just wondering if that advice is still valid.
Hi Bill, quick question, I just did a coolant flush in my 04 6.0 and installed a coolant filter system as well, I know you say to use the gold coolant from ford, which is what I did. But a lot of people on the powerstroke forum are saying don't use the Gold? Is there a better coolant to use or is the Gold the best option? Thanks
what is the deal with the coolant filtration system I can't comprehend were the crud or crap that is floating around in the coolant system. were dose it come from its a closed system? thanks
I just bought a 2004 Ford F250 Super Duty 6.0 190000 miles on it it's pretty Immaculate I've never owned it diesel in my life so I am watching all your videos to get any information I can and I'm going to take your advice and use the oils that you just showed I'm going to use Motorcraft for the coolant and the other oils that you are showing it I have one question though additives is there an additive that I have to use on every fill-up or is it necessary for on every fill-up that's the one thing that I'm kind of I don't know I'm trying to get some knowledge in it is this additive stuff and what is good for this engine thanks for all the knowledge I'm getting from you
would it be ok to run fuel filters from international for vt365. same engine but i found the filters from international would be like 30$ cheaper not sure what to do
Since we no longer have a Ford dealership in town, it's no wonder most everyone has dumped all their ford vehicles, having to travel 70 to 80 miles just to purchase genuine ford parts blows about as bad as the head gaskets on a 6.0
wondering how often i should be adding a cetaine additive or lubricant additive like the stanedyne to my fuel.....each time I fill up, or? sorry I'm kind of a dummy, but your videos have saved my life and renewed my faith in my 2005 F250 lariat supercab 6.0 (64kmi) that i just love to death! I know she should be babied, and I'm SOOO THANKFUL you are here to give wonderful advice and informative videos on how to do it! god bless you!
