I enjoy listening to both you and Hiller, but it’s really frustrating to hear you constantly comment on what he is putting out based on what someone told you he has said. Please just watch the content if you are going to comment on it. Or just don’t address it if you don’t have time to watch it. I think the tone of what he puts out is super helpful for context and “heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend” doesn’t really give weight to your counterpoint.

Well truth is, that's how busy people especially in management roles handle their workload. They can't watch everything themselves, they are dependant on people telling them short versions of those things and then they handle it. I do exactly the same thing as a boss of an IT department. It is called delegating. There is no way you can listen to or watch everything at a certain point.

Unlike Dave, I actually watched Hiller's video, as well as other podcast performances by Annette. Not only is her way of "thinking" categorically incompatible with even the most basic sense of personal responsibility, it represents a form of organizational cancer. CrossFit would be well-advised to excise the malignancy before metastasis...if it's not too late already. Incidentally, Dave, next time you want to run to the defense of a coworker, I would strongly encourage you to first investigate exactly what you're defending. Blind allegiance is more pernicious than the perception of disloyalty.

Dave, why is there so much animosity for Hiller? Right now, him and Sevan are the only line of communication for what’s going on at HQ. How can you get upset about him relaying incorrect information when the only line of communication from HQ is word of mouth or a DM to either of them. Our feed used to be filled with videos of Greg fighting the government & big soda, stories of members (of all ages) in the affiliates, highlighting games athletes, showing what the community is doing, and so much more. There was never any doubt of what the direction of the company was going. People used to be proud of the brand and what it stood for. Now it’s becoming a corporate franchise filled with people that probably couldn’t tell you what ‘Fitness in 100 Words’ is. Why does it take you, going on your personal vlog to relay the message of what’s going on at HQ? Or rather just coming on to say ‘I heard what Hiller said and he’s wrong’. Give the people what they want.

@jeffgiardina9035 they're doing their jobs. Andrew throws them into the public eye, which then leads to then receiving a lot of hate. That's not supposed to be part of their job (for the majority of them). They're literally people just rocking up to work, trying to do their job the best they can but then they're all of a sudden being smashed online 24/7 by people who know only snippets of what goes on. It's bullying, caused by Andrew's actions. We need to remember CF is just something we like as fans, and/or do as a hobby, but there are actual real people copping all the shit because Andrew name drops them if he even hears a whisper of something. The criticism should be directed at CF, not the individuals that work there.

You expect Dave to watch Hillers video's "to get the facts"? That's the silliest thing I've heard today. One of the points Dave was making is that Hiller doesn't have the inside info (facts) that he thinks he has. Why would someone who actually is part of HQ listen to an opinionated vlogger to get the facts? If Dave is wrong about the funding of the video, and Hiller is right, let's see the receipts. Dave doesn't have to watch a Hiller video to know if that claim is BS or not.

As you said in response to my last comment, at some point PE will look to sell it. PE is slashing costs and raising fees at the expense of affiliates. You failed to answer my question "How is PE selling to new PE investors who will also look to extract profits good for affiliates?" P.S. Our actions and the outcome define our legacy. Legacy is not something that can simply be edited after the fact.

We always talk about how we have to adjust to the heat and humidity and how it impacts how well we perform in our WODs. To test this, I'm thinking of picking 3 benchmark workouts and repeating them every quarter throughout the year to see how my results vary. What do you think of the approach and which benchmarks would you suggest?

Hi Dave, Last week you touched on a good trainer will address diet first. However, the block system as taught in the lvl 1 course emphasizes portion control at the constant level and even when eating out. Do you believe that this is revivable in the new light of eating disorders being prevalent throughout peoples fitness journeys and even at the highest level in the sport. Of course the short answer is, eat better and you will be better, but that isn’t an approachable conversation to anyone especially new people. If started my initial conversation with someone who wanted to try my gym out with “hey let’s look at your diet.” It’s roughly on the same terms of how much do you weight? I absolutely understand that nutrition is the foundation. Unfortunately it’s more often than not the straw that broke the camels back on how people can really injury themselves mentally and physically. Is CrossFit going to potentially make an adjustment to the way it’s taught and perceived or just continue and not have anyone worry about the potential impact it’s causing trainers and clients. Thanks for all the good content. Apologies for the long post.

The rest of the world uses the phrase "random test" in the context of drug testing to refer to a test that is administered to an athlete that is truly randomly selected from a pool of athletes. It can be too expensive to test an entire field of athletes in many sports. So, a common practice is to test the winner or the full podium and then randomly select a certain percentage of athletes from the rest of the field for testing. The idea is to deter the athletes who know they won't make it to the podium with the possibility of a test. "Unannounced testing" is testing where the testers just show up and demand a test. No one calls this "random testing", except you. Targeted testing happens when the sport or doping agency goes after those they suspect are doping or just those who are highly successful or prominent in the sport. Rich was targeted with an unannounced test, as he should have been. He wasn't randomly tested. It sounds like he was mocking your idiosyncratic use of "random testing".

If Dave (or anyone replying to anything on the internet) doesn't have the time to spend to "look into it" for what's actually happening, then thre is no basis to comment or respond to it either. Dave himself says it (Reader's Digest form) "Hiller doesn't have all the facts, (he assumes), so if you hear what he says, find out what's going on for real behind it...." what Dave is asking the followers to do in this video, is EXACTLY what he hasn't done. He's actually doing what he accuses Hiller of, replying with no actual information (just going on hearsay in this case). Sadly that's the state of the internet primarily today, react, to reactions, without actually checking the source. INSTEAD, if Dave doesn't have time to watch what Hiller posts... then he should not react to what others are saying ABOUT those posts, it's a game of telephone. I watch both, Hiller's video about the CPO, wasn't very critical, in fact, he didn't really say much at all, he mostly just let it play, with a few comments (including congratulating her on her motivation to leave an environment that she felt was toxic at her previous employer that she discusses in the video). So Dave is reacting to someone else's interpretation of something THEY may not have even watched... the CORRECT response for a professional is "I haven't watched it, so I can't comment on it, next item..." THAT type of response, is a power position, the "not watching it but here are my thoughts" isn't powerful (it's understandable he hasn't watched them if he doesn't want to, only so many hours in the day) but commenting blindly on something he HASN'T watched, is a response from a position of weakness.

Cf has a beautiful nutritional template however the actual nutrition inside the box doors is atrocious. Sugar sugar sugar.

I agree with Dave to some extent about Andrew Hiller. I love that he brought a spotlight on lax movement standards and I DO think he contributed positively to making those standards better. I also agree he tends to focus on the negative on a host of other topics that do not make the CF space better.

All I'd say is if CF HQ handles their media/outreach with the same level of thoroughness you vet the information on "bad actors" in the space we are in trouble. At this point, you should actually watch Hiller's stuff so you can speak intelligently on it and not just comment on the hearsay you get from people. If you aren't willing to do the work in research, Hiller or anyone else, then you should keep your opinion's to yourself. Banning critics doesn't make the product perfect, banning critics makes CF something no one wants.

Guess what, we don't know the athletes either anymore and that is why the games are not as interesting. Every since the shuffle where the media team was let go, so was the hype leading up to the games. You should bring back on the buttery bros and let them drive that hype. People watched because they knew everyone, all the dottiers, Frazer, Wells, Briggs... Now? This would be an easy fix. Yeah it will cost money, but all business have to spend money on advertisement to be successful and so does CrossFit. We also need better standards for movements and judging. If there is a great area there is going to be confusion and errors. We also need a master judge system that can over turn bad calls like most major sports. Bad calls happen but it should not end seasons. This comes from love, because I love this sport. I want to see more CrossFit gyms and athletes, the current model is not working.

What’s stopping the Buttery Bros from doing what you want with the athletes. It would be costly to do it but if there’s such demand for it, it should be financially viable.

It's not that hard of a concept to understand. The only people that like Karen's...are other Karen's. The rest of society has seen enough Karen's to know what they're like, and know how toxic they are, without having to listen to every word they say.

It is easy for social media guru's who are sitting on the outside of CrossFit "the company" to say whatever they like as self proclaimed experts. Unfortunately CrossFit as a sport is still in its infancy and that means the social media guru's have more power with and influence over the CF masses than they really should. Sadly, the reality of modern social media is that, while you (Dave) and the other folks at CrossFit HQ are actually at the coal face creating the next evolution of the sport (specifically The CF Games) in real time, those who are sitting on the sidelines with no actual input toward that development can say whatever they like, truth be damned. We all know that for professional social media types, controversy attracts views and views means money so it is in their interest to stir the pot and who cares about the damage they cause along the way. Keep up the good work Dave.

Thank you for addressing the comments made about Annette by Hiller. I watched his video and felt like he took her words out of context. He also tried negate her experience as a Black woman who has experienced racism. He tried to equate the racism she said she experienced to his friend who is fat. As a white man, he can’t speak people of color’s lived experience. I don’t think I he meant this, but his assessment of her came off as a bit racist. There’s a bit too much of diminishing of people’s lived experiences from a very small, but loud contingent (I’m looking at Sevan too) in the CF space that can make it feel uncomfortable for marginalized folks in the space.

I felt as if my life experiences were diminished as I read this. Which is odd. Considering you said I did the same.
@Thejuliejones

@@hillerfit your life experience isn’t the same as a woman of color. As a white man, you don’t face the same marginalization as people of color. You do recognize that, don’t you? And point that out doesn’t diminish your experience, it clarifies the fact that some people walk through this world and are marginalized because of things that are out of their control. Your overweight friend could lose weight and no longer face weight discrimination. Black people can’t change the fact that they’re Black and that this country is set up to marginalize them by default. Again, I want to say that I don’t think you meant your comments in the video to sound like you were trying to sound negative. I do actually enjoy your videos. But that particular one did make me feel uncomfortable, especially the comments that were posted on the post under it.
