Chad provides an overview of the kinetics of organic reactions. Much of the lesson is really a review of kinetics from general chemistry with a focus on the aspects relevant to organic chemistry. Chad begins by covering rate laws, reactant orders, and reaction orders and how they are related to the molecularity of the rate determining step in a reaction. He then moves on to a discussion of rate constants and their relationship between both temperature and activation energy. Chad then presents the Hammond postulate and shows how to draw transition states in organic reactions by representing the bonds being broken or formed as partial bonds. Finally, Chad reviews catalysts and reminds students of the 6 key characteristics of any catalyst.

Hi Mike! That is fantastic, and I wish I was in your study group! Spent way too much time the last 2 years in a 10x10 room with a whiteboard and a camera 😜

04:44 So why do we multiply the concentrations here instead of adding them? And why do we raise to powers when we have stoichiometric coefficients instead of multiplying by them?

My prof literally posted the same exact topic but nothing retained but I literally come here and pooof I just understand everything! Thank you so much teacher Chad you are loved by a lot of students

It would be interesting to know how much the reaction speed is dependant of the concentration of the catalyst, because the catalysts normally are very expensive.

what if the bond being formed or broken is for some reason already dotted (going into the plane)?🤔🤔

Which reaction in the video is this about (let me know the time if you can)

not in the video just a hypothetical scenario@@ChadsPrep

I'd still need to know the type of hypothetical reaction if possible :)
