Everybody is telling me that I shouldn't have got a 6.4... it sounds like they're alot of trouble... and expensive to fix. What should I do? Get out of it? I mean, if an engine is 17,000 dollars, it better run for A LONG TIME! Why are these engines such a problem?
@brandonmorey3441
@brandonmorey3441 5 лет назад
@@mikekillian5989 honestly the best thing you can do is take care of it with routine maintenance. I hate to say it but these engines are prone to blow by issues if not properly maintained. I seen people get 500k out of them and heard of others getting6k out of them. In my opinion and personal experience with the 6.4, if you take care of it and dont throw crazy horse power at it it will take care of you.

@@mikekillian5989 I love my 6.4.... I have over 200,000 and it runs like a dream. But you have to delete the EGR and DPF... They are like a cancer on that engine. Also do a 5" staright pipe and a tune along with regular maintenance...

People say don’t get a 6.4 because they are the baddest diesel motor out and can be built to handle major power. But shit breaks and gets expensive quick when you play with fire. 900hp+ engines don’t make long term daily drivers but they sure are fun while it lasts 😝

I have a deleted but stock 6.4 I bought with in 2014 with 55,000 miles, and had I done the investigation on the 6.4 I would not have bought this truck. I now have 121,000 miles with no trouble and I pull a 5th wheel on mountain roads. I have the mini maxx tuner and keep this truck well serviced and next service will be full synthetic. I keep my ear to the track and I would say DO NOT BUY A 6.4 IF YOU CAN'T DELETE OR DON'T WANT TO, THE EMMISIONS WILL KILL IT!

good video but some of your point of views are off. I've built a few of these and if your gonna run aftermarket you do need studs although the head bolts do seem to do the trick it won't. Especially if you use upgraded injectors or aftermarket turbo like you have yourself. you might consider new uppipes the upgraded ones with that turbo. If your running a stock tune stock injectors then you'll be fine but your idea of the wastegate will help prevent new pipes needed as well. these engines are the best if you know what your doing with them and they do have some awesome upgrades that can be installed. I own one myself and it has the delipped pistons and after market rods and studded running h&s mini and many other mods. I like to see what other people has done with there's and share my knowledge as well. btw like that turbo fabrication that's nice

@@brandonmorey3441 I have a question, these trucks can't even handle boost pressures above 45 psi correct, like the computer will only read so much pressure correct, like 3 bars, and in diesels and shit, but like wont u run out of fuel, like I currently stop defueling at a certain point of temperature, but if im not mistaken, the amount of fuel going in is unregistered and probably not enough for those high boost moments...

Love the truck. The truck is not throwing no codes, it hasn’t lost any power. One guy said turbo maybe another guy said injector. It smells like diesel coming out the pipe. Can anyone help. I don’t like the smoke doing that. Thanks for anything to help.
@brandonmorey3441
@brandonmorey3441 6 лет назад
Tim Pritchett the fact you have not lost power makes me presume its not the turbo however it could be in the beginning phase as well and the fact there are no codes would also leave me to believe its not an injector fouling out otherwise the smoke would most likely be darker however there are arguments to that. You say a whitish clear smoke usually indicates coolant is being combisted. Are you going through more than normal coolant? Also could be the rocker arms as well. Do you hear a distinct popping sound through your intake?

Hello Brandon, Thank you for the great info for us 6.4l guys. I have an '08 F450 that's giving the dreaded P0088 Fuel Rail Pressure to High code. I've read a thousand forum threads and I know that I want to replace my HPFP with an Airdog system or other like it. My question is, do I need a tuner to bypass the sensors on the old pump or will it be a simple install and go type of operation. Thank you for your assistance. Eric Rousse
@brandonmorey3441
@brandonmorey3441 6 лет назад
ERIC ROUSSE Well i didnt run into a p0088 or anything like that and if thats pertaining to the HPFP im not sure if airdog or fass make that i believe they just do Low pressure pumps...so i wont be able to share any experience on that however i have replaced my LOW pressure fuel pump with a Fass 165 gph pump. The only sensor that was left unplugged from the original i believe was the sensor that "detects" water in the fuel. No big deal as long as your draining the seperator until fresh fuel comes out at least once a month youll be fine. When i installed the Fass pump on my tryuck i had already had a programmer installed but when i change tunes it never asks me or prompts me to select anything to do with fuel pumps or anything so i would imagine you would be fine. I didnt get any codes popping up after my install. The hardest part for me with the instal was connecting the lines on top of your fuel tank. I am living proof that it can be achieved with a flsahlight and mirror without having to drop the tank however it did take me considerably longer due to visability and limited space. The best advice i can give you durring the install make sure you messure a few times with hose before you cut it. You dont want to cut it too short. Good luck let me know how you made out
@ericrousse8360
@ericrousse8360 6 лет назад
Thank you very much, Brandon. You're a great help. I think I can still get enough pressure if I replace my HPFP with a LPFP and won't have the issues that the HPFP has. Thank you again and I'll be sure to update you on my expedition.

@@10mm69 Im hoping you got yourself a well maintained motor with minimal blow by for that mileage. Since that is the first year ford intorduced the DPF it is proned to cause issues in the engine by "regen" and thats why you hear alot of horror stories with this engine melting pistons. It would be illegal to remove any emissions on any DOT approved vehicle, however having said that many people do. Ithe first thing i would do in your shoes is "upgrade" your exhaust system from your downpipe back! Make sure you have a programmer to help facilitate the upgrade and what ever you do, do not run hot tunes or high horsepower tunes on this stock engine. Fing a programmer that will facilitate the upgrade and keep it at minimal HP. That is the first thing I would do. I hope this helped

Your stock intake pulls colder air than that hot air intake in the engine bay

Pablo's Reef you bring up a valid point, perhaps if it was like a traditional S&B setup with the shields it would be more effective...the only piece of mind i have is that the scoop in the fender is blowing directly on that filter. I agree with your statement however this intake will pull in more volume than factory which in a diesel we are seeking more dense air so its almost like a doubke edged sword at times lol

Your 100% correct ..at a minimum there should be a shield there. I thought with the scoop right at the fender pulling in fresh would work best but your right. I will say this with a single turbo setup a stock intack will collapse,so after market is recommended.

I purchased a 2008 F350 with blown turbos supposedly due to DPF pluggage. It has 215k miles and I got it for 7000. It is in the shop now getting a DPF, EGR delete, and The turbo is being changed out with a H&S Single turbo kit. It will also have a programmer. Just waiting on the Turbo to come in. The after these fixes the engine should be considered "Bulletproofed". The quoted price is 7500 for repairs. My question is, are there some other repairs I need to go ahead and do while the cab is off? I read somewhere that the water pump has a lifespan of 200k miles. Should I replace things like this preemptively? Or take the philosophy if its not broke dont fix it? I would be glad to post a video of truck when out of shop if anyone is interested. Also could there be an underlying cause for turbo failure? this is the 2nd time he had to replace turbos. When I started it, it had white smoke from exhaust, and then dripped oil on the driveway that looked to be coming from turbos. He said that was due to the seals being out on them. Any advise is appreciated.

chad gray well my truck is a 2010 but from what I've heard and read if it's an 08 you need to look into a front cover due to cavitation issues. I would go ahead and do the water pump as well but that's me. I rather do a little preventative maintenance instead of waiting for failure if you know what I mean. it would not be a bad a idea to do head studs as well since the cab will be off. there is a lot of different opinions on that right there. sounds like a little work and you got yourself a beautiful machine my friend.

Diesel Mike Correct same engine sir. from my research in the past I believe ford made a revision to the water pump blades in 09 due to the cavitation issues early on. I could be wrong on that. I do know their solution to 08 owners was an antifreeze additive.

Sorry for your troubles friend. I do not have the tuner or the truck for the past 2 years. I would try and pull the DTCs with a regular scan tool and clear them or identify what the codes are saying. Id need more detail in order to help diagnose this way

@@brandonmorey3441 Good to hear. How many miles before you let it go? Just bought a 6.4 with 200k. They either sold it to me with a blown HG or I somehow blew it in the first 100 miles haha. It's getting studded atm. Just excited to get it back and keep it on the road as long as possible

@@SkylerMorgan i had around 170k on it and i must have been fortunate because i didnt have near the issues or horror stories that are out there on the 6.4. So either i traded at the right time or just got lucky with my particular engine lol. Good luck with it, the truck was definitely a solid workhorse for me when i had it. Congratulations on the purchase

I’m speaking from experience...the absolute best modification any 6.4 owner can do is getting rid of it.

Great learning curve, other than intercooler pipe shows volume v.s. acceleration of pressure. ( need schooling), and removal of emissions defy all logic plus your bumper sticker which is dumb.👎🏾
@brandonmorey3441

The intercooler pipe was factory unless you were referring to the intake pipe? Thanks for the opinion.
