I did this on y '08 F250. Here are a couple of hints. I bought a special open ended wrench for getting the temp sensors out. It supports the nut on three sides. Even then, there was one I couldn't get out, so I just bought another one to tie up to the frame rail. I used some big ratcheting straps to pull the pipe apart. After the delete, this is like a whole different truck. Way more power with the DPF-R+ tuning, about 15% better fuel economy, it pulls like a freight train, and no more worrying about sooting up my turbos and diluting my oil. The only bad thing is I have to reverse it every two years for a smog check, which takes the better part of a day.
from my knowledge the pressure sensor between the cat and dpf, determine the pressure differential. when it senses a upset in the differential (more pressure in than out) it will set engine in regen. the pyrometer (temp sensor at the end of the test pipe) will determine the heat associated with the regen cycle, as opposed to normal running. i am guessing why there was no tuner used and or needed.
Joe Sylvia I think thats how to Chevys work. ford doesn't use differential measurements. the computer just does some math about idle time vs drive time and makes guesses on when to regen.
I did my DPF delete based off of this video. You'll definitely want an extension...and more importantly a universal joint...otherwise getting those top 3 nuts off would be damn near impossible.
Nater389 Forgot to mention. Be more careful removing the gasket than this guy...you can see he kinda tore it up. I used a flat bread knife(similar to a puddy knife) and did the same thing as he did...but I took a little more time and was able to retain more of the gasket without tearing it up. Know that they are very fragile and thin(cheap). I also went over the gasket edges with Form-A-Gasket before putting back on.......it could only help. Result? No exhaust leaks at the gasket.
Vico...I went with the Torque Technologies T1 tuner. Note T1 and not T2. T2 will tune the truck just like the T1 but has no monitoring capabilities. It has been great, save a small issue with the speed limiter not increasing. But honestly I don't race, and I drive easy. I don't see myself going over 95 mph in this truck. Other than that(and I haven't troubleshooted very much) it has been great. Disabled the regen process and EGR cooler functionality like it's supposed to. There are others though...like the Spartan tuner which has good reviews.
June, the tuner would be around $1,200 and is by far the most expensive step in deleting the DPF. The straight pipe needed to replace the DPF could be had for around $160. Might as well delete the DOC(catalytic converter) in addition to the DPF while you're at it...but if you don't want to they do make a pure DPF delete pipe with a flange on the one end to hook up to the DOC...like in this video. I will be removing my DOC soon...but will need to buy the different pipe to replace the flange pipe...my mistake for not thinking ahead. So basically, you buy the replacement pipe (with or without bungs - for the sensors). I would go with bung holes personally, so I can retain sensor placement. Everything is bolt on bolt off...if you can...do it yourself...or with a little help from a friend. Let me know if you have any questions. All parts supplied?! $2,100 is expensive...but then again...a shop is having to pay people. Then again...it's not that hard to do either.
You can pick up a DPF-R Plus tuner for less than $350, it will delete the EGR and DPF and gives a nice 70 HP bump, and if you don't want the HP increase just grab the standard DPF-R for even less.
One of the major problems with the 6.4 starts with the DPF (soot cooker). When it clogs it forces the computer to run RE-GEN more often which fries the seal in the turbo. Then the engine oil just passes through the turbo and out the tailpipe until there is no oil left in the engine. Bearings will spin, and the whole engine will be toast.
These engines with a DPF need a separate oiling system for the turbo. This will eliminate this problem. Only the turbo will get toasted in a runaway situation instead of the entire engine. Even the 6.0 Powerstrokehelp needs this.
Where can I get one of those straight pipes that you are installing what brand is it and where did you get that sir I’d like to buy one if you can reply back I would really appreciate it
I want to know if i have either a 6.4 or 6.7 Powerstroke. how can i remove the DPF system with the truck STILL being legal. and with warranty still valid? doesnt the computer check for that and if its not there it wont turn on?
I have a 2008 ford250 6.4 liters and and the clean exhaust filter light has started to turn on, I would like to do this procedure, where can I get this pipe and where can I reprogram it.
You do need the programmer to install this kit but it works good and looks very stock. Just order up a DPF-R stock tune DPF delete programmer with it and its totally worth it. Better mileage and no more diesel fuel in the crankcase oil that the defective factory DPF software causes, that destroys engines.
I have a 2008 F250 6.4L . I perform a DPF/ CAT delete after that when is running sometime i see blue smoke, crude diesel on pipe. what i need to eliminate that smoke? or what do you think is the problem? I have TWO sensor out on the exhaust.
+GERARDO MARIN did you get a programmer to turn off the extra diesel that is used to regenerate the DPF? If not, you're not getting the fuel economy benefit of the delete.
Hi from Mooresville. I'd go H&S Minimax ($1050 or so) and then you'll need the delete portion for the exhaust. Kit's start around $500. I have full turboback exhaust on mine, so it's obviously a bit more.
That doesn't net you anymore power but seems like a good price. My H&S in the 'hot damn 300' tune nudges my truck to a 12.9 quarter mile...which in all reality is useless in my tow vehicle. It does however have a screen to pull tons of ECU data and act as your gauges for when you're towing. Trans temps, oil temp, coolant, EGT, TPS, boost, etc...ECU channels go on and on.
+june davis That tuner is a piece of shit. I got it, followed all directions for pipe install and what to do with sensors, then went to load the program and get an error code 239 thats not even documented and tech support had no idea and no refund for me.
mark davis maybe it will pass. in the Netherlands after 2007 they use the obd connectiong to read it. so if your dpf is removed they can put it close to 0 in the ecu
Any modification to vehicle emissions for highway use is against federal law in every single state - even if there is no diesel emissions testing in that state. If found, end consumers are hit with a $3750 fine; even if you're on private land. Shops that do this are subject to $37000 fine per infraction. It also, obviously, voids any warranty. So - land of the free, home of the brave - make up your own mind.
sweet video, now I understand why this is illegal to do this, just wondering who would bust you for having the DPF delete? I doubt the state police would even bother with pulling over random trucks to see if it's been removed...
BCcreativeInnovation the only department that would possibly ticket you would probably be (DOT) Department of Transportation. However most of the time they do not bother small vehicles.
+dockswithlions you could but they fetch a decent price on the used market. Also, this would only help if you have visual inspection and no sniffer...I say that as aftermarket programmers will turn of flags/codes in the ECU, so it'll pass OBD-II scan just fine.
I have a p040d code and limp mode. I broke off the sensor on the up pipe. does anyone think I can get a egr and dpf delete tuner that it'll bypass this sensor? then I can just plug it in and zip tie it somewhere?
I don't believe a tuner will be needed because the regeneration process gets initiated when the sensors detect a high enough pressure difference between inlet and outlet on the DPF so, because there is no longer a DPF there should be no pressure difference using the test pipe, therefore regeneration should not be activated. That's my take on it, what do you think?
bibli ography No man. I have a diesel truck too. I want to do the same, but I'm not sure how legal this is and if I'm going to get in trouble. That's all
Jenish Odigineyev it's not legal but highly recommended unless tickets cost more than engines. the emissions system as a whole will cut your trucks life in half
+Gear Box Z This doesnt explain what the hell you do when you get Error 2-3-9 while the program is trying to upload. I cant find anything online ANYTHING, not even at the manufacturer site to tell me what the hell error 2-3-9 means and how to correct it. Im fucked thanks to this junk product. Wasted labor on delete pipe install.
Gear BoxZ DPF-R Ford 4.0 for the 2008-2010 6.4L Powerstroke. Plus right out of the box the NO button is messed up and always does a rapid fire response to one push and chimes a bunch.
Email may not have done so well but a phone call got through just fine. They are sending me a replacement programmer overnight, so here is hoping this one works. I dont know how the one I got even passed quality control with the obvious button damage and case defect.
Hey Volatile motorworks. Im looking to use this product to replace the exhisting filter on my 2008 f-450. Would you recommed this using this version. Or would you recommed another brand. Thanx, Steve
+TheFirefighterdude2 Sure. Seems to work well with the DPF bypass pipe even without the bungs for the Exhaust temp sensors. They sent me a replacement programmer quick and easy when I called Gear Box Z directly and it worked just as advertised. My customer's 2008 F550 runs great now, gets better fuel mileage, and no more diesel fuel in the crankcase oil. This will save your engine for sure.
