Thanks for your video's Johnny! I've been shooting 6.5G in both gas guns and stick shifters. Love the caliber and your reloading details give me pause before I "head to the bench".

The unexplained flyer could be the hornady brass. I have been reading about people having that problem with it. Great video really enjoyed it!

Great vid JRB, looking forward to the ballistics gelatin test with that bullet, as I also also would like to use it in the 6.5 Creedmoor. Curious to see how it will do with the velocity difference between the Grendel and a hot load out of the Creedmoor. Lots of half inch groups or better up there if you take away the one shot, but I’m certainly not here to tell you that you did something wrong or give you advice on how to shoot, you were loaded at the top end of the charge spectrum and who knows, while we are all certainly capable of our fair share of fliers, I don’t think you would have had that many in a row. I can’t tell you how many videos I’ve seen you shoot half-inch groups in the MK 262 series with a freaking bipod, so keep up the great work JRB, excellent stuff.

Hey Johnny, I'd love to see you shoot and reload for the .450 bushmaster! Either the Ruger American bolt gun, or an AR upper.

Great video! Maybe once you get the velocity you want along with the best group, I’d suggest trying different seating depths of the bullet. Ive found this to significantly increase groups with the right combination on powder, bullet, and seating depth. Its worth a try. Keep up the awesome videos. Especially with the creedmoor. I absolutely love my savage and can’t wait for some nice weather to shoot my test loads.

i know this is a old post . and i am sure you don't look at comments on the videos this old . but if you need load data and info on different cartridges for long range . join the reloading and shooting groups on fb that are in australia . they do a lot of long range shooting down under . and are a great help in reading .

I shoot Grendel out of a 20” bolt gun. I shot factory Federal Berger 130 Hybrids and they did pretty good. .7” id say @ 2388. I want to load some of those 130 Hybrids to 2400. Hopefully 2450. Good stuff as usual man.

Johnny have you considered moving from the bipod to a front bag? I went from a bipod to using 2 Caldwell deadshot bags back to back with a rear bag to get the most out of my rifle, and my groups have shrunk considerably. Maybe the last shot curse can be cured!

I took a elk at 888 yards a few years ago with a 308 using the berger vld (175gr) and was very surprised with the results. I shot him in the lungs and neck and both left a impressive exit wound. I think the bergers would be great in gel.

Got to agree with Chuck's comments. Lots of moving parts. I can't tell in the video but was your magazine touching the table for those shots ? Might try a five round mag next time. Also the feet on the bipod may be slipping/skipping shot to shot. Put a block across the front of the table and "load" your bipod by pushing the rifle slightly forward against the block. Four low shots in four different groups is a repeating mechanical issue. Last guess would be try again without the mag chrono. From an aerodynamic view, having a pressure wave reflector on one side of a projectile leaving the barrel can't be a good thing for consistency. Great Videos. Keep up the good work and thank you.

Great job! I am always paranoid about the bolt hold on the last shot messing up the group, so I usually try to load 6 when shooting 5. But you didn't have probs on the other vid, so who knows.

Johnny, I've got some comments and questions for you. I have 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 Grendel and 260 Remington. You mentioned how expensive the Berger 135 gr Classic Hunter bullets are. I found them a a good price at: On The Mark Group, Inc (www.otmtactical.com). They had them for $40.49 per box of 100; I bought 3 boxes. Have you ever heard of or tried Silver State Armory brass? I picked up some a while back, I believe at a Sportsman's Warehouse, in 260 Remington. They seem like top notch brass, of course I'll know more after I test fire them (hopefully later this week). I have watched so many of your videos, I may have missed it or forgotten, but have you ever tried Ramshot Hunter in any of your 6.5 loadings? I've found data for it on the Berger, Western Powders, and Nosler websites. I've loaded up some of the 6.5 Creedmoor with Hunter and the 135 gr Berger Classic Hunter bullets. I'm hoping for some really good results. If you ever feel so inclined, it might make some interesting video's if you were to test out the Ramshot Hunter powder in either of your 6.5 calibers. Strictly from an editorial point of view, and I live near San Antonio, TX; I am extremely disappointed in the merger of Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas. Cabelas (near Austin) always had a good selection of reloading components; powders, primers, bullets, brass and tools/equipment. Since the merger their in-store inventories have gone to crap! On top of that Cabelas used to offer Veterans a 5% discount, which included firearms, ammunition, and reloading components; after the merger they have stopped doing that. I am basically in a boycotting posture with both stores now, and that leaves me in a world of hurt down here since there is very little alternative other than ordering online. I have really found Sportsman's Warehouse to be the best outdoors sports store which carries a great inventory of components. My only problem is that the closest one to me is over 500 miles away! I miss Sportsman's!!! Bill Wilson

One of my ars does the same final shot flyer if I load 6 in magazine for a 5 shot group it eliminates that issue, that flyer issue started after I installed an adjustable gas block due to over gassing with a can

I'm having the same issue with 1 out of 5 flyers on my 6.5CM and AR-15. Perhaps it has to do with the temperature of the sun??? With OnTarget, I include the Mean Radius with the ES to indicate grouping.

You're using a semiauto on a bipod, lots of moving parts, the groups are good. I wonder if the magneto speed does odd vibrations to the barrel, maybe a chrony vs chrony test?

I want to thank you for doing all the work ups on these loads. I’m shooting a 30-30 Winchester and it a great rifle and a great round. I want something more modern with about the same parameters as the 30-30. My max range may be 100 yards but the deer I killed last year was 40 yards max. So I’m stuck. Should I go 300blk or 6.5 Grendel? I want accuracy a lot of accuracy. Give me your thoughts

6.5 grendel. 120 grain speer gold dot. 2600 maybe in bolt could get to 2700. Dead dear 200 yd. Maybe 300 yds good to go. Practice practice. Then practice some more :-) have fun.

you don't have to put the gel out at 200 yards - you can use reduced charge ammo and shoot close to the bench - get velocity to verify - here is a video where they do this - much easier ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Oo6KhjHe7DY.html

I shot a small deer a few years ago with a 6.5-284 with 120 gr ballistic tips and that wasn't very impressive at all no penattation to speak of and never a good blood trail of any kind I found it on pure luck. So I would stay away from those in either caliber. Just Mt two cents
@jimhans1
@jimhans1 6 лет назад
Shane Rhodes I used a 140gr Nosler Ballistic Tip in a 6.5-284 going right at 2800fps at the muzzle on an antelope at 450yds in 2010 and had the exact opposite results, bullet expanded well (didn't recover bullet, but damage during cleaning was massive over the whole wound channel) and penetrated through and exited the animal, which dropped where it was standing. I will say this, light weight ballistic tips are usually very explosive in their performance, but the heavier ones are usually very controlled for bigger game. A 120 ballistic tip out of a 6.5 Grendel would only be doing about 2500-2600fps at the muzzle, versus closer to 2900 from a 6.5-284, so the performance might have actually been better from the bullet going a bit slower......
@Variable556
@Variable556 6 лет назад
The Nosler 120 BT was overdriven in the 6.5-284. It is an excellent bullet in the 6.5 Grendel though. It performs very well at Grendel velocities. I have personally harvested numerous whitetail of various sizes and at different distances using 6.5 Grendel ARs in 19.5", 14.5", and 10.5" barrel lengths. Many one shot drops, and the 120 Nosler BT was also excellent accuracy wise in my rifles. HTH
@shanerhodes925
@shanerhodes925 6 лет назад
Yea I agree that the velocity was way to fast for that bullet weight. I wish I would have had the 140 gr accubond. But I sold that rifle so doesn't matter now lol
