You gotta love 6.5 Grendel. Great hunting caliber in a small package. Took a speed goat at 451 yards last year and he didn't go far at all. Whitetail and hogs can just hang it up. Fun one to watch.

I had a AR platform of the 6.5 Grendel built. I love it. using a sig optic and at a 100 yards with ten round mag, I took the entire red bullseye off the target. very pleased. 200 yards I'm at a 1/4in shot group. it's a hell of a rifle and I'm very happy with it

Hey Who Tee, a tip for more precise ballistics math, if you _can_ find the numbers for a G7 B.C. you'll want to use _those_ vs the older than sin G1 model numbers! G1 can't account for things like boat-tail bullets as it was designed based off old flat base artillery and mortar shells way back in WW1.

Shooting 2.015" (1.92MOA) high at 100 is pretty close to the 2.12MOA dial-in recommended in your chart for 200 yards. That comes out to a little more than 0.4" low at 200 and you got 0.6". I would say the chart is accurate.

Have you tried 9mm and 45 acp? The claim is 9mm 115 grain fmj only drops 4" at 100 yards. I was shooting a stump one day at 100 yards with a 9mm and could make impacts by simply holding on the soda can we placed on top. The stump would not fall using 9mm so I switched to 45. The first shot impacted 5 feet in front of the stump. The eventual hold over was something like 6 feet. Once impacted by the 230 grain fmj the stump rocked back then fell forward. It took 8 tries.

This is why any rifle I hunt with I always sight in one to two inches high at 100 because you will always either be dead on or less than a inch low at 200 and only six to eight inches low at 300 in which allows you to do dead on hold your animal every single time. You're catching your bullet more in the rise when you're sight in high at but if you put that Grendel dead on at 100 and do it again you'll be four to five inches low at 200.

I've been interested in the Grendel along with the arc. Curious if the difference in drop is due to barrel length? I didn't see barrel length called out in your calculations and seeing the Grendel also runs in the AR platform, maybe it was set to 16" and the ruger is longer? Just guessing.
@stabbinfatties9489
@stabbinfatties9489 2 года назад
In the calculator with a 200 yard zero (with my ammo for the 6.5g) it shows 2.1 inches high at 100, but with 100 yards zero it shows 4.3 drop. It has to do with the arc of the bullet fight path, sighted in at 100 that's the peak of the arc and its all fall from there, sighted in at 200 (close to where he was sighted in) the peak is at 130 yards so it's only falling for 70 yards vs 100.

@macgyver5108
@macgyver5108 Год назад
It's a 1:8 twist rate barrel and for a 130gr moving at typical muzzle velocities that's more than optimal twist rate. See for yourself online and search for the "Berger bullets twist rate calculator" and enter in all your needed details! Make sure to use the correct BC numbers, as there's both G1 _AND_ a G7 BC numbers and they're quite different! Use the modern G7 numbers if you can, as G1 was the formula used back when "high tech" was mortar shells from WW1!😉

@robertchapman4488
@robertchapman4488 2 года назад
You are exactly right. As a hunter I know I will never Target anything over 400 yards so I always zero in at 200 because that allows me dead on hold all the way out to 300 to 330 with my rifle. It takes all the thinking out of it.
@mdd1963
@mdd1963 2 года назад
Some folks apparently can't understand the advantages of a 200 yard zero on even a 'flat shooting' cartridge....; instead of not worrying about holding over or under from all ranges of zero out to ranges all the way to 235 yard or so with a 25 yard/200 yard zero (known as max point blank range) they seemingly *want* want to have to start holding over by 4-6" at even 200 yards, and 12" at 300 yards by stubbornly sticking to a 100 yard zero , even with a flipping 7mm Rem Mag... (probably the .22-250 as well!) :)
@Rickkari7
@Rickkari7 2 года назад
I'm not knocking a 100 yard zero. I just thought the results were the same as the 200 yard zero on my AR in drop and impact points in this video. The drop was consistent with what I see. Whoteewho explained why he sticks to 100 yard zeros. I chose a 200 yard for me. I like the dead hold zero at that range.

A little history on 6.5g development that probably set the cartridge back a few years. We know there was a type 1 and a type 2. well this actually happen twice and first was the chamber throat along with the fighting and bickering what it should be. the cause was, at the time, there were only a few different bullets made in 6.5. The type 1 was set on having shorter bullets so when they started making longer bullets they were getting crammed into the lands. The type 2 was chamber to accommodate the new bullets being made and it looked as though it would continue from that point. Then probably before the dust settled on that, some jokers decided to use 7.62X39 bolts to save a few $$$. The original design used the same bolt as the 50 Beo and had the longer throat As Bill Alexander intended from the start. so anyhow, this move created another type 1 over again. If you were buying a Grendel, there was a good chance you'd end up with a rifle that couldn't be shot because one or the other things. I was personally sent the7.62x39 bolts twice for a rifle that needed the other one. People were fairly aggravated by this point just dumping their Grendel projects. So it's taking years to get this amazing cartridge fitted into a rifle where people finally starting trusting it again enough to put their money down. Given my handloading experience I knew the potential of the round and it's significant improvement over the 223/556. If not for the delay It would of been mainstream years back. And what's considered the type 2 now, was the original design from the start and rightfully is the first type as designed.

Those issues along with keeping the cartridge proprietary at the beginning. Once it finally went commercial it has picked up steam quickly. If they had worked the market properly 6.8 SPC probably would not have been much of a competitor.

@@ChristopherKnN never thought about that but I would say your correct in that assumption. It does seem they've tried about every combination they could as long as your could get it in an AR. I'm as guilty as they come though owning, at one point, 16 ARs in varying calibers Now I'm down to a dozen, keeping the ones I feel are significantly different putting them in a class to themselves suited for different mission specifics roles. I am placing the AR 10 family in this category along with the AR 15s. But it's a very short list with those.

Impressive round. Is there 65 Grendel upper for the 556 lower?
@noonespecial9840
@noonespecial9840 2 года назад
PSA sells uppers and so does Alexander Arms (they developed the cartridge). Personally, I've built two 6.5 Grendel uppers and two 6mm Arc uppers, they use the same bolts and mags. Duramag and ASC mags feed the most reliably.

Don't think that .338 did your shooting skills any favors...time to work on getting rid of the blink you do as you shoot.
