By the looks this conversion wasn't done for power, It's an extremely low-boost setup, made for hundreds of thousands of touring km's with good low-end grunt and bombproof reliability.

madrx2 lol this is an antiquated engine with known problems if you try and push the power to anything reasonable. A 24v cummins makes the same power in base spec and almost 200nm more torque, wind the fuel and boost up like he has done here and the cummins shits all over this motor easily making 200kw and 1000nm or more. If that wasn't bad enough the cummins engine is more reliable on every front and a conversion would cost at least ten grand less than what brunswick charge.......

Gibbet Hoskins Exactly,I would've kept the 4.2 diesel and upgraded it.The 4.2 is a lot more reliable and is known for it's tuning capabilities.

@@Porkyping243 Yeah, Im not really an expert on American motors, I live in South Africa, I know the 4.2 GU's are used all over Africa in the most toughest terrains. My uncle owned one, the car had almost a million kilometers on the clock, with decent services and maintenence they will run forever. Cost wise, I don't get the point of putting a big american motor in any car, low performance without any upgrades and the fuel costs are insane. That's just my opinion.

A gas engine in a 4wd is a horrible thing. That's what they make diesels for. Only the chev diesel is not the best choice.

@@sarrassgaming1537 A gas engine in a 4WD is a great thing, it just depends on how you choose to setup your motor, cams, heads, comp ratio in how it behaves and if it'll be suited for what you want. You can create some very flexible motors.

@@totobyafrica847 I think petrol and diesel has their own characteristic and cant be substituted each other. its depend on where u will play with ur toy. If u want spend more on sand and beach so petrol is the right for u. If more prefer rock crawling, jungle expedition, then diesel is the best.

@@aukahpusing9887 I honestly believe that it's entirely preference and suits a chosen way to drive, I currently have a 4.6L landrover v8 and have driven quite a few diesel patrols. The difference in performance of road is almost non existent. But the spread of power having extreme low end where I can just lug along due to gearing, going up anything with a fast idle aswell as being able to lay it down and having that top end is great. Every motor is different, you can't just directly compare diesel to petrol imo.

@@totobyafrica847 yeah ure absolutely right. Everybody have their own presonal preference. However for me, diesel and petrol is absolutely different. They were separated by basic principle thus whatever mod u did, they cant be same. We cant said which one is better, each have their own advantages and disadvantages. I have fj40 with 2uz-fe swap and 4.2 patrol my own. For uphill and sandy place (mount bromo) i always bring the fj, but for long journey and expedition, patrol is my choice. For me : (wild, speed, responsive = petrol), (tough, monotone, torque = diesel).

Met a bloke with a series 4 patrol who got his sent to Brunswick diesel in WA for the 6.5l chev v8 diesel conversion. The whole conversion set him back $30,000 which isn't too bad for a brand new motor. Sounds mint and goes hard.

Not being rude but arnt those chevy engines absolute junk ? I looked into putting one in a 110 landy I had but couldn't find anyone that had a good word to say about it ..they said before it over heats it will lunch your landy running gear .. hence i gave up on that idea . Cool patrol thou

Yes, ok whatever,,,, do some research,,,, your thinking of the old 350 gm diesel, and yes it was it was a POS...I do actually have a 6.2 on a M1009 that came out of an H1, and it says GM/Detroit medium duty diesel emissions exempt on the valve cover....but to each his own.👍

I have a 6.5L v8 brunswick goes hard, sounds sick too, sadly the owner recently took his own life so the company has gone into liquidation no longer exist in Wa

Sorry, I am from the UK and more than a little confused. You took out of the vehicle a Japanese engine and replaced it with an American engine? Am I missing something? Is he smoking something?

Harvey Smith. More torque at lower rpm with less fuel consumption. We have tracks in Australia that are 800km plus without fuel or supply stops. Fully loaded heavy Nissan with a smaller Diesel engine in rough terrain will guzzle fuel

You can make more power from a zd30. The CRD version will easily push 140KW with a bigger turbo. A factory 24V cummins makes around 150kw and 800nm in base form, tweek it even a little and you can push more than 200kw and 1000nm and not even begin to strain the motor. I've seen the drive in and drive out prices for both the brunswick and places that have done the Cummins conversion and the cummins is more than 20 grand cheaper. It's also a more reliable motor to boot....... People can do what they want but there is a reason GUs with this engine conversion don't sell for much more than factory powered units.

HuuuRRRRRRRRRR DURRRRRRRRRRRR Cummins this cummins that. You are very wrong a 12 valve engine (The competitor to this engine not the 24 valve) actually made 15 less horsepower and only 10lbs more torque.

Bruce Springsteen ther good for fuel mileage the ones the military and the ones they put in hummers’ are different they are a better motor than the normal 6.5 they have bad blocks and heads I’m changing one now that has both a bad block and heads but something has to fill the engine bay I found a lower mile one hopefully it’s one that will go 700000 most only go a couple hundred thou before you are changing head gaskets ther are a few that are good so if you get lucky I’ve no luck I’ve had 2 bad ones so I’m hoping I got this motor cheap if it don’t run good I’ll sell the truck no more fucking around with 6.5 diesels last chance for me I don’t have a lot of faith in them carry a few spare pmd with you they like to take a shit on you and then everybody try’s to sell you a pump for 1500 dollars the harmonic balancer should be changed there’s more can’t be bothered listing it’s very depressing I don’t even drive it hard no overheat issues they just are not a good motor no power what’s so ever have had gas motors that had torque that would blow this motor away it is by no means a stump puller

they weren't as heavy duty as the cummins and ford idi's, they were meant to be a light duty diesel you could get them in the half ton trucks back then. I'd recommend head studs to anyone with a 6.2 or 6.5 diesel, maybe the lower compression pistons as well if you plan on boost/ more boost. And the mileage is pretty awesome, my lifted 4x4 suburban 2500 averaged 18mpg driving home when I got it, with the nv4500 mostly in 3rd and 4th gear. I think I could have got into the 20's if I was driving on a flat highway.
