IN THIS VIDEOS I GET A DAMAGED 6.7 CUMMINS TO START AND RUN WITHOUT THE TRUCK BODY OR "OEM" FORD WRING. I DID THIS TO CHECK TO SEE IF THE ENGINE IS WORTH TEARING DOWN TO ATTEMPT TO REPAIR IT.
Dropped an exhaust valve on a 5.9 once lol number 3 piston was welded to the cylinder wall with said valve. she still got me to the next exit then back across the interstate to the next station cuz the payphone was out of order. Not a mosquito left alive for miles. Those were the days....
Had my hot side intercooler boot pop off my 12v started pulling a hill loaded with a car and boy did she kill some bugs pulled into a rest area and put her back on.
You asked if we wanted to see you take the valve cover/head off. Dude. I want to watch you eat spaghetti. I promise I would learn something from that. Your intuition and thorough descriptions of what you're doing is beyond compare. Keep it up!
I drive the same model truck at work, mine is a 2011 F-750 with a 6.7 cummins and an Allison auto... I love it!!! Only thing that ever gives us fits is the stupid DEF system on it.
I have heard that same sound on other Diesel engines and it turned out it had a bad cam shaft. The Crome broke of the face of the lifter and destroyed the cam lobe. It would really interesting to see what happened to it. Keep up the good work J c. Look foreword to seeing more in the future.
JC first video I’ve seen from you, great stuff! I have an ‘09 Blue Bird school bus I’m considering pulling the 6.7/Allison out of and stuffing in an ‘01 2WD Chevy 2500HD that had the 6.6/Allison. Knowing little about Cummins medium duty engines, the rear drive accessories info is great!
I knew you could do it ! I had all the faith in the world you would get it running! An old guy told me once there's too many moving parts in those 24v motors and the valve train had a tendency to crash!
Heck Ya tear it down and check it out that's the best part of your Videos watching you tear something down and fixing it and making it look so easy when people like me would have said hell no I'm not trying that it's above my PAY GRADE
I vote to have a look see and see what the issue is, mind you I am one of those people who always wants to see if a engine can be saved, cause thats money in your pocket if you dont have to get one and if you ever want to see it as long as the fix isnt worth more than the engine would be, then you know someone will buy that... there aint no doubt about it.. When ever I see trucks that are non runners or fleets trucks that havent been used, I always try and go in with a worse case scenario in mind, this way I am not surprised if its has been scavenged upon... Nice work on finding your wire issue on the no start, sometimes it is the little things that just need to get traced down to get things working. Look forward to the teardown if you do it.
I worked at a cummins dealer as a tech for 6 years. could be worn cam or broken bridge across the valves but most of the time a bent push tube or a missing e-foot of the rocker arm was the cause. could even be a botched valve lash adjustment where someone didnt torque the nut on the rocker arm properly and it backed off. most likely the exhaust valve side is where the problem is.
Now I call this must know info and I'm impressed cause that can be reversed to other applications. I don't know how you learned this cause I had to quit wrenching just when things were getting interesting. Long story short, I'd like to find out what caused it to push that much oil into the airbox. Thanks for sharing this... U just got yourself a new subscriber. I know about fly by wire and some of it but that is something I've never seen done before!!!
Really enjoy your video, simple and too the point. I just started watching and also subscribed. Can you tell me if you break even on these salvage trucks or make any money. I have done it with other cars and trucks, just not the bigger stuff. Either way I plan on watching your other stuff. Thanks
I had this issue on some smaller lawn tractor engines and on the teardown showed the exhaust push rod was bent. This prevented the exhaust valve from opening and when the piston came up on exhaust stroke, it wouldn't release the exhaust and that high pressure from the exhaust stroke will suddenly exit through the intake valve as soon as they open. Causing that popping from the intake.
Common problem with the isb engines is they will break valve springs around 200k, we replaced all the valve springs in the rest of the fleet and we have some with 350k on the ticker
That happens all the time on our fleet. The lack of overhead maintenance the rocker backs off. That one sounds like the exhaust rocker backed off and most likely bent the intake push rod.
Tear down time. Almost sounds like a 12 valve with a bad injector. The sound coming thru the computer speaker makes it sound like it got a rod knock, but since the medium Cummins makes like 210 horse power, the rods are safe for another day.
Could you tell me which wires exactly to get it running ?i would appreciate it alot , have one im trying to figure out which wires need to go where to get it running .
I had one drop a intake valve at 12k back in 07 on a megacab ram, was cylinder 6 furthest valve back, valve was hammered rt into head, cummins replaced it all sounded the exact same as yours
I love it. I'd like to see the repair video. Is that a common problem for them? One last question, Are you self taught or did you go through schooling? Thanks for another great video sir.
the repair video is up now. the reason for the failure on this engine was likely technician error....unfortunately this happens far too often. i learned by doing. tear it apart and see how it works.
@@j.c.smithprojects wrap it around and hook the chain so it cant slide all the way off and i like to put the extra on the front of the load. It help resist the wind
Broken intake valve spring. Retainer probably came off and it's bouncing off the Piston and the seal is the only thing keeping it from falling down the hole
i,ve got a 06 5.9 out of a freightliner with a auto how can i do this to it i,ve put it in a 66 dodge power wagon, i want to get the egr crap off of it . and it has a trans tcm for trans
I used to have diesels that ran all day long with no WIRES or batteries. Push start,No lights, mechanical gauges, gear driven injection nothing electric at all. So the three wire thing seems unimpressive if you've had old diesels.
Curious if you have a pinout for a 6.7 cummins CM2350F ecu . I have come across a 6.7 cummins out of a wrecked 2019 5500. I have plans of putting in a 2002 excursion but would like to crank it in the floor before I get to deep in the project.
@@j.c.smithprojects Does it matter if the engine serial number pulls up as "ISB(Chrysler)"? When I try to use quickserve it only shows "Fluids for cummins products" under that manuals tab. Am I missing something?
Other than what seems like a valve that thing actually runs pretty damn well to be damaged. Also I'm not a diesel guy so why didn't ford use their powerstroke instead of using a cummins? Or is cummins a separate company from Dodge?
