2016 F350. I had just topped off my DEF tank with good quality DEF. Within two miles I got an error code, and the "50 miles until limp mode" warning came on. By the time I got home I had less than 30 miles to go until limp mode. Code reader stated P207F - Control Module Indeterminate. As I live very remote, and suspecting a glitch based upon having just topped off the DEF, I got my truck up to operating temperature and followed the driving sequence described in the video. 3 episodes of light to moderate acceleration followed by coasting for 6 seconds after each, and then 5 episodes of hard acceleration for 3 seconds each. The limp mode warning cleared, affording me time to see if it happens again, and to be in better position to get to a dealer if necessary. Thanks for the info and video, it is greatly appreciated! Too bad this kind of easy to follow instruction is not in the Owner's Manual!! Well done my friend!
Had this very same issue with my 2015 where the vehicle "errored" (displayed) a "Failed Exhaust System) and went right to speed limited. Unfortunately I was trailering a load of Kayaks for a "Heros on the Water" event and had to drop the load for my buds Ram, I'll never live that down. Limped to a dealer (Truck was still u dear warranty w/29000 miles). Again, unfortunately they had to keep the vehicle for several days due to scheduling. Codes were the same as shown in this Vlog and I assumed cleared in the same way. To date the vehicle has not had any issues, but at the same time, and after several long (near a thousand miles one way), the DEF level as not shown anything but "OK". Thanks for the vid, gives me a better idea of what procedures may have been used to solve my issue. Nice V22, but "Phrogs for Ever".
Thanks for the info..i own a cummins 2nd gen..yes they come with problems of there own but there not that techinal..this makes me miss my parts job at the ford dealer ship..I can here the oil pumps in the back grown...lol..some things never change.
you know what? i really enjoy this channel. i really love doing this type of work myself when given the opportunity. Very laid back and honest is what i like to see, if im ever up in your neck of the woods wherever that is you can bet ill be getting service there :) ill deffinetly be watching more!
Hey flmmaz, did p207f came back on that truck ? Any updates ? I agree with you , that dtc is hard to diagnose , what would you have done if there was no update for that pcm ? , honestly i do not believe that a pcm update is the cure for the p207f , Was the nox catalyst conversion efficiency bellow or above 90% after the drive cycle ?
Not all heroes wear Capes. You Sir I wish were my Local Professional Diesel Tech/Mech.. Awesome Video. Now I gotta watch more from this channel. . Liked and subscribed... I do have some questions but Ill have to Formulate them. I have a Mil lite with P24C6 and 7 respectively. On and Off. I am Scheduled For dealer service later next week. 2016 F350 6.7 Lariat. No mods. I really wish ford had a Mnauel Regen For this truck as they do for earlier models and trims?
p207f and p20ee i have grey hair from those codes in 2011 and 2012, till we figured out nox sensor #2 was glitching out and giving readings just long enough to trigger quality codes. now its straight forward on 13 and older, check jullian date code on back of sensor module, all the same parts just different connectors for a Dmax and PSD for the DEF/SCR
I have been having this same issue many times in my 2013 Power Stroke. It happens every time I have to drive in a heavy or continuous rain storm where there is lots of water on the road. It will throw that code and will go into speed limit mode. I had to buy a tool to force it through a regen cycle and clear the code because it always happen out in the middle of nowhere. It drives me crazy.
Can you explain the drive cycle requirements? I thought I understood accelerate to 50 mph taking at least 6 seconds for one cycle, and then five or six moderate to heavy acceleration cycles lasting 3 seconds each with no specified speed?
hi thank you for your efforts and good job I want ask you. why you do not do manual Regan, beside update software, do you think if I do Regan early can cause any problem
Thank you. This truck was having an SCR issue and not a DPF problem so a manual regen wouldn't help in this case. I wouldn't do a regen unless the DPF was clogged up. If you drive the vehicle pretty hard it will keep it some what cleaned out normally. If the vehicle were stuck in idle only mode then I might do a manual regen only to heat up the exhaust.
flmmaz - have watched a couple of your videos and think they are great. Wonderful public service. Can you tell me what scan tool you are using that connects to your PC? It's great having all of that display real estate for monitoring signals.
Thank you. This is the Ford IDS setup. The interface is called the VCM II and it allows the laptop to connect to the vehicle. The software is the IDS portion and it is a yearly subscription deal. Both are readily available to the public.
Paul Helmuth if you need to ask what scantool/system hes using you probably dont need it. go get yourself a pocket scanner that gives you codes and some pids and thatll probably be all you need
Water pump went out and also they said i needed a new EGR valve.... $3000. 2 bolts that hold it up break off at 80% of the time that ford will not warrantee.
Aaron lol funny you say that, ive only been a diesel tech at my ford dealer for the past 2 months, our veteran diesel guy had shoulder surgery and is out for 3 months. so far ive been doing ok for having no experience. but with the help of videos like this and from your videos, thanks btw!!
What type of magical 🧙♀️ powers does this mechanic have? That “new” Ford diesel may be worth it’s weight in scrap metal without this mechanic to fix it. The only way I would drive a new Ford diesel is if it was given to me as a gift 🎁. Maybe...🤣
There's an empty threat. You're in no danger of ANYONE giving you a 6.7 liter diesel...you can take that off of your "imaginary things I worry about" list..
Nice work But you couldn't pay me to own a new diesel. They're as bad as horses. Big, strong, but delicate as hell. Damn junk. Diesels are supposed to be strong reliable work horses and they're both more than delicate money pits. I was a Master ASE tech up till 2004. I'm so glad I got it and never had to deal with these things under warranty
damberson4698 Yeah when I worked for Dodge back in 09. The 3500s were designed to go into “limp mode” at 62K. The limp mode was to have the owner bring the vehicle in to have the EGR an the equivalent to a diesel catalytic converter cleaned out, I’m having a brain FART, so I can’t remember what they are called). Weather it needed it or not. To me that is very unlawful. Cause they are making your vehicle unusable until you bring it into a dealer for a $650-$800 “cleaning”. I’m sure other companies have similar shit they do to make customers come in and pay for BS work. I also had to do “recalls” on vehicles fresh off the truck with not even a mile on them. I was doing 09 Jeeps with 6 problems right off the truck. Like drop the valve body an R&R a sensor or re flash the PCM for problems. There was about 4-6hr work a work but the good ol under warranty I only go 1.2hrs. An that was cause my boss felt sorry for me. Cause I was/ did 13-20 Jeeps a week. So yes the ones almighty diesel were the king/ beast on the road. Now are like the other Nancy’s on the road due to the “government” making the manufactures adhere to new EPA BS!! Oh well there’s nothing we can do but keep making mods to over ride the government BS
Oh alec y. The day is coming when the EPA will have check points and check for deletes. Here in Colorado I will not do them. The fines are steep and come back on me. I have tons of 7.3 an 6.0 trucks out there that have been fixed right that do not have to have all this crap. Here they will pull you over and dip your tanks. Better not be running red fuel.
nobody with a regular pickup truck has ever been fined for deleting their truck. only time the EPA gets involved is on commercial trucks and fleet trucks.
those laws don't happen overnight. I bought a brand new 2015 platinum ford powerstroke and I deleted the truck the day I bought. the emission shit in these trucks kill there life expectancy. if your going to 70k on a beautiful truck and you want that truck to last and perform the way yo u want it to, then it has to be deleted. if not then it eventually will have problems and then that's where everybody blames the truck instead of the piece of shit government mandating these laws. AND nobody runs red fuel in their trucks, deleted or not deleted. That's just purely stupid. it's dirty fuel.
