I almost got stranded with the same issue. Had to turn the truck off then pres to accesory only. Then turn it off again. About 20 times in a row. Give it a try next time
Awesome vid guys, the amount of problems we have had on all our DEF equipped vehicles is off the scale. Anyway here’s one for you, we were travelling to Osoyoos in Southern British Columbia and going down a steep hill into Summerland when an Ambulance came rushing at us with lights flashing etc. As it passed us on the opposite side of the road our engine suddenly stopped and the vehicle just started to free wheel down the hill. Needless to say having a 40 foot 5th wheel on the back and no brakes was absolutely terrifying. We rolled to the bottom of the hill and managed to pull in to a turn out at the bottom with hearts pounding and sweating profusely. Couldn’t get it to start, she was completely dead in the water. So we looked in the hand book and found a paragraph on radio frequencies that can effect your key fob. It said you have to take out the key from the fob and insert the key in the ignition point. Hey presto it started up. Now we did a little research and apparently it can happen when other radio frequencies are on the same wavelength as your key fob and it’s a so called safety feature that prevents someone stealing your vehicle. Sorry but I don’t think that it’s very safe to shut down your vehicle while in motion with a ruddy great 5th wheel on the back on a steep grade. So if you see an Ambulance or Emergency vehicle coming at you just be aware of this.
I had the same issue 2020 F-350 @ 34466 miles and the extended warranty. Dealer said someone put bad DEF in the truck. No, they didn't, I use only Peak Kleen approved DEF since the day I bought the truck, and I am the only one who fuels it. Ford then says someone may have poured a contaminate in it while I was parked. No, I live on a Ranch, seldom ever go to town, and unless some Deer or Squirrels have learned how to retaliate, I have my doubts. $4266.33 to fix the problem, I am very pissed at Ford.
Super video.! Thanks Laurence for talking out the problem….. This problem happened to me last year…It all looks very familiar..🤦♂️ Glad it worked out! I Think I’ll save this video as a check list for another day… ✅ Safe Travels… ✌️ Thanks for sharing….
Oh my goodness an issue with your truck. Glad you had a friend that helped you out with your truck and sorry the Fire dealerships wouldn’t help you out. Glad the Def fault fixed when you drive around . Hopefully you will be able to find out what the issue was whenever you can get into a dealership. Glad it’s working! Thank you for this video! Have a great night and see you soon!
Thanks for posting this. I get a bit nervous anytime my DEF gauge gets anywhere near the halfway mark. So much so, I carry a 2.5 gallon spare of DEF. I'd be interested to see what the diagnosis is with your problem and hopefully it was just the sensor tripping because of the ow level. Glad you are up and running as nobody wants engine or other issues when travelling.
Lawrence, I retired 2 years ago from 40 years over road trucking and my last two trucks I owned had DEF. Most all the problems was def related. Clogged filter, box sensors, egr calve and a couple other systems with the emissions canisters. Yep I’d be down for a week on average to get it fixed and yep my trucks would derate and once had my truck and the tanker towed. Uhh has, cost a fortune. Glad I retired.
Howdy you two .... Those issues is the reason why we have an older GMC 2500 with BIG ASS 8.1 gas engine ... lol ... glad it all worked out for you, what I did notice was that while you were towing you didn't have your TPMS in it's mount while traveling ... what's up with that? safe travels, have fun and I look forward to your next video. ... off the top of my head. Thx Larry
OMG!! We are actually going through this right now.... We have a NOX code and havent hit the 50mph mark yet, I expect it to show up soon. We own a 2019 F450 so I'm gonna try and do the same as you and see if it works. We are supposed to be at a dealer monday. Fingers crossed!!
Currently having this same issue. Truck currently at the dealer. They’re trying to charge me over $5K. I told them heck no. Will be getting my truck and checking the issue myself. I’ll let y’all know how it goes.
Mine just popped on 493 miles to go. I check it every time I drive it which is every other week 225 mile trip one way. The good news is it does not leave you on the side of the road. Thanks.
yup, its great that it only restricts you to 50mph, instead of 5mph like other manufacturers. Would still love to know the cause. We did take it into a dealership recently and they saw the code, but cleared it and it didn't come back. So far so good.
Deleting is fairly straight forward. I found out you can do it yourself. Only cost about $600 for the device to flash your computer for the tune, and maybe $900 for a new muffler system (although you can keep the OEM one if you'd like). There are videos on RU-vid walking through it believe it or not. Also for other 6.7 Powerstroke videos I'd recommend Powerstroke Tech Talk w/ARod on RU-vid.
Happened to me as well on my 17 f250 on a trip I let it get super low and when I filled it up the alert kept saying the same thing so I kept driving it to the destination about 5hrs and it cleared on its own i would say has something to do with the float inside the def tank that measures the level but with some dpf weight reduction she purrs never had an issue again lol
That 2022 is a better stronger truck than the 2023 F350 I miss my '22 F350. They tried to soften the ride and now i get blown all over the highway. Lots of sway. My '22 had the def problem the dealer replaced the system filter and then an hour down the road the problem returned. The next dealer replaced the DEF injector and I never had a problem since. Now my '23 is doing the same thing. That's why I've found your video. I'm going to the dealer and have them replace both the filter and the injector. That should fix the problem. I think the system contains debris created by the DEF fluid itself. It's crusty and also clogs the DEF tank filler tube causing fluid to gush backward out onto the ground. It's supposed to reduce pollution but using it is a filthy mess.
I have a small motorhome that is gasoline. I knew nothing about diesel engines so knew I didn’t want one. LTV now has gone to all Sprinters. I have a Chevy and it is a little workhorse. Also much less expensive upkeep!!
Not to jinx it, but any time "I don't know what fixed it", I'm always afraid that I "didn't" fix it, and it's only lulling me into a false sense of relief, only to hit me again down the road..... But I'm sure yours is fixed.... ☺😅 The error being caused by the low level sounds plausible, or maybe the low level kicked up some crap into the filter. PS, Ricky Gervais was awesome last night! Way more raunchy & vulgar in person. (That's a GOOD thing 😂) Cheers! 🇨🇦
Thanks guys. My wife and I are planning to upgrade from a travel trailer to a small 5th wheel. This would also require us to upgrade out truck. One question was gas or diesel? Engines are complicated enough these days. Your experience puts a tick mark on the con side for diesel.
Having had both and had a similar experience with my 2015 F250. I would still go with the diesel. I tow a 40' 5th wheel Salem Hemisphere Elite. Towing a 20' travel trailer with gas powered truck I knew every moment the trailer was back there verses the towing the 5th wheel with diesel. Especially on any hills
Unless you tow/ drive an awful lot , you may never recoup the initial / on-going costs of the diesel. A friend has the F250-7.3L , he will not shut up about how good a tow it is.
We just had this issue, made it home from camping shut it off, later brought it to our mechanic ( at this time it was a 50mph max). My mechanic ran the codes and since I had just had it in ford for the recall he said we need to take it back to ford. When we turned the truck on we were in limp mode at 5mph and had to have the truck towed. How did you manage to stay at 50pmh after you shut it off again? I hope someone can tell me this incase it happens again, which I’m seeing this problem happening over and over again.
Should have got a Ram 😂. (I carry a jug of def, all the time when RVing, as soon as my gauge hits the half full mark i pour in the jug). Did u say that the arrow disappeared when the truck went down a hill n hit 65?🤔
