@@bigboreracing356 you can't be sure of that. Bore and stroke are different, head flow, cam design are all different. My custom lsx454 with ported stock LS7 heads makes about 700 crank hp. Its a bit better than the crate 454lsx but not by much. I haven't looked into a typical 454 bbc crate but im sure there are different options. Would be an awesome test none the less

@@bigboreracing356 oh I know and I agree. I just think overall it would be such a fun test to show how technology has advanced over the years. Richard could break it down by comparing rotating weight, bore/stroke, cylinder head size like port volumes, combustion chambers, valves, rockers, port flow, compression ratio, and like you said BSFC, not to mention engine weight/size. I would love to see that test. Basically a new style big inch small block vs an old style smaller cubic inch big block.

It is hard to over-carb a roots blower. At 7.3lbs, you're pushing in about 1.5 times atmosphere - so effectively 383x1.5=575cid. A true 575 would have no problem using 2x 950cfm on the right manifold/head/cam combo.

To me, and after seeing the old school go to new school, the new school tech has allowed truly streetable, reliable and relatively inexpensive 1000hp engines to exist. Race engines are now undercammed truck engines.....all the moderns have race blocks and race heads from the factory. 6 bolt mains and high flow heads were unheard of 30 years ago.

When everyone caught on that the truck engines were almost the same it was still too expensive to play with. Now “LS” is just like the SBC the parts are everywhere, cheap and the aftermarket is huge and they are even more reliable and the SBC was a standard of n hot rodding reliability. long story short I like the old school and new school.

Try with E-85 the blower needs that kind of cooling never pump gas again when dealing with blower the E85 will act as a intercooler and pick back up more horse while being reliable 💯.. Blower should never be recommended with regular gas for the lack of a Intercooler... Even if you 9:2:1 on the Motor Procharger and other come with intercooler so pump gas is super reliable on those Applications... Blower Applications should always Run either E-85, methanol or race gas only if you wanna make real power while being reliable 😎

Funny you did this bcz ive been wondering if I could build LSX engine to 526ci & then run same Blower setup as my Pro Mod runs which is Fowler F11 Extreme, carbon hat w/a spacer..Since they make LSX type engines with Turbos pushing 3000+Hp, I figure IF I could make LSX of same basic size as my 14*degree symmetrical big chief w/a KB Olds block..Figured same size engine w/the characteristics of LSX with great heads, How can it NOT make similar power? Everybody w/a Roots Type Blower now is switching to HEMI, pretty much bcz of RPM, limits of Olds BBC Is there valve train at Hi-RPM where the problem hits..When engine like mine is pretty much limited to 9500rpm yet a similar HEMI engine can easily roll to almost 12000rpm! Now w/a Billet Rotor Hi-Heliex Fowler F11, at same overdrive level but now spinning another aprox 3000rpms, Imagine how much more booste especially at that engine speed will be achieved? IDK how much of difference between the 2 engines wud be solved by hi rpm boost but to go by other guys running Blown Alcohol Hemi's which are going into 3.60s & PSI screws that are running in 3.40s at 221mph in 660ft😳.So if anybody would know would be you..Also, why not use Hi-Heliex Blower? Maks Way More Power, taks less then 1/2 amount power to run Blower & the intake charge is Significantly Better bcz of heat reduction again which is significant, some why not try "Blower 2 Blower" comparison to 60degree cast rotor blower, 120degree Hi-Heliex billet rotor design & Then a Procharger, Atleast 136 prefer 140 for max power tests but most guys were using 136 Procharger..Then we'd all know kinda power differences are made w/a Roots, Hi-Heliex & Procharger combo on any given engine, And Id personally like to know IF I Could run LSX in 526ci range? I think LSX would have better power bcz they have ability to Rev higher which would spin Blower faster at same overdrive Or I THINK things would go that way..I maybe thinking on completely different level of thougt to this then avg car guy would, they dont know what Hi-Heliex even is😮, so this would be good information for them all to have aswell😁🐾.Oh thanks for channel, I pretty much just trust what you say & prob what Steve Morris says over most others who build & test these engine videos....

If a Holley Hi Ram intake were used (they make a 671 blower adapter for it) would you expect to see much of a difference????

Is there a rough formula for runner length? Ie x length to make power at y-z rpm or is it completely dependent on displacement, chamber & port volume, cam lift/duration etc of your combination?

Hey Richard, horsepower was still climbing why didn't you run it to 7000? Also, in my experience running roots blower motors, the BLOWER is the limiting factor in ultimate power output. I've went to higher flowing heads before and ran nearly the exact ET and MPH, although boost went down. Only when I changed pulleys did the performance increase. I like it when you show the boost curve graphs as it shows where the boost begins to back up into the manifold and the camshaft/headflow becomes the limitation.

Hello I’m really hoping you could give me some advice.I have a 66 c10 that I’m building as of now it has ,what the casting numbers are telling ,me is a 80s model 350 4bolt from a van or truck and a 2 speed power glide.I recently purchased a th400 and am going to have it rebuilt and use it for daily driving. What I need advice on is I’m just looking for the cheapest way to make 400 to 500 hp should I keep the old 350 put heads and a cam should I pull it out and have it rebuilt into a 383 s. Or should I get an Ls short block and put a cam and carburetor intake on it (because I don’t want efi Trying to stay in the classic vibes) idk what’s the best bang for the buck pls consider engine life and durability thanks. Hope to see you in the inbox

Imagine huge displacement big block with modern tech like variable timing and GDI I'd be in heaven! I like LS and coyotes but I also like old school 'boomer' stuff too their stuff is what got me into cars in the first place

It's all great. An LS screaming at 8000+ has something special going on, just like the shotgun blast exhaust of a 14-71 blown 532 with 14:1 compression, or a Ford revving to 11+k. It's all fun, but I am probably a BBC guy at heart, and I'm not even an actual boomer. Hmmm, this begs the question. Boomer vs. Millies. Where do we late gen X'ers like you and me fit in?

Were those fuel rails on the intake for running with EFI? Would be a good spot for direct port NOS injection?

I was just reading a thread on how to build a 560hp 383 SBC. Those guys were doing big cnc afr heads, 250* solid roller, 11.5:1 cr and JUST getting there. The 383ls you did here could be driving gramma to church and probably get decent gas mileage to boot.

how much power could the block take with that bore? going from 3.780 to 3.905 is a ton of bore. its like a 9th of a inch. would you be better off with a 3.80-3.840 bore at 1000+hp?

@@richardholdener1727 how would it do at like 1000-1200hp you think? with a boosted set up i dont really see a lot of benefit to going forged rotating assembly and $500 in block work if the block can't take 1200hp besides more low end power from more displacement. you kinda proved the turbo/blower flow rate is what limits hp as long as the motor will take it.

Hey Richard holdner its joe the guy who keeps bugging you about the 429 ford I was wondering about cheap ways to get more power out of my 5.4L ford f150 already did headers ported the intake and throttle body 4 inch exhaust and cold air intake been looking for a stock 4.6 blower but if you have any cheap ideas let me know by the way the truck rips pretty good right now I'm just the guy who wants more lol

I remember growing up and dreaming about taking a old 350 SBC and making a proper stroked. Then the I'm older and have money and time and junkyard LS well make my $8k engine look sad. Never really though about making a LS stroked didn't know you could really do it. Any con rod clearance issues or bottom end stuff?
