The Dream 180 is actually voiced to mimic the soapbar P90 sized humbuckers found on some such guitars, but in a full sized humbucker package. For instance, in the bridge position it pairs well with GFS' own Dream 90, a humbucker sized, P90 voiced single coil, in the neck. I have these two pickups in a Les Paul with a Seymour Duncan Active Blackouts Preamp. I put D'Addario EJ21 strings on it, and tune to Dropped C, Dropped B, D standard, C# standard, and C and B Wahine tunings for metal.

I have that dream 180 in a 335 style guitar with a dream 90 in the neck

@@dmanguitar Yeah the Dream 180/Dream 90 pairing seems to work for everything, from bluegrass to jazz to punk rock to extreme metal genres. As an eclectic music nerd, I love it.

Great comparison video. I appreciate your putting in the effort put into demonstrating each pickup in a variety of ways. I hope everyone reading this has a better than expected day. Peace

Its crazy how the fat pat is described as being warmer than the crunchy, but to me its quite the opposite. I find the fat pat to be a little shrill and found the crunchy to be more warm.

Thanks for the hard work. I’m kinda leaning towards the crunchy pats. I think they would sound good in my alder body. I want something that won’t be so twangy.

They sound great - Fat Pat, Crunch Pat, VEH brights, outstanding!

Thanks for doing this. I think Guitar Fetish pickups are underrated because of the prices. I have a few. The FAT PATs are great. I put them up against any. The VEH are also very good.

Fuel- Innocent 🤘 I went to college with Carl Bell, and used to play foosball with him. We had two bands on campus back then, and he played in the other band. Great guitarist!

thanks so much for this! I was wondering what the difference between these were and the written descriptions don't help that much haha

The Crunchy Rails sounds most like a Tele in split mode, and the Power Rails sounds like an overwound Tele bridge. If I could get a guitar with a slanted humbucker bridge route, like those weird Kramer axes, if I didn't get a Duncan P-Rail, I'd probably get one of those.

Great demo! I had a Fat Pat Boutique in my Yamaha Pacifica 212. The harmonics jumped right out, with high gain.

Awesome job. Thanks so much for this work. i really liked that you did a wide range of gainy clips also. Looking for pickups with a variety of scrathcy sound details for my monstrous amount of gain tones i use. Thanks.

I'm glad that RU-vid recommended your channel! I swear by the "Fat Pat" I'm a Guitar Fetish fan but on the same SG I've got a Rio Grande BBQ bucker in the bridge. It's an Epiphone but sounds like a 3000 dollar Les Paul

Before buying replacement pickups I have good old fiddle with my EQ pedal, I can usually achieve the tone/voicing I am looking for using this method.

hey thanks for taking the time to do this! I am looking at a number of these pickups to put into my se prs custom 24. To me the pickup in the prs is kind of middy sounding and no bite. I own a prs ce24 semihollow and love the pickups in that. I am looking for a versatile pickup that can handle everything from clean arpeggios, great ballsy rhythms, but also has a great out front lead tone. after your video I will check out the veh. lmk if you think that would work well.

I thought the VEH were definitely a better all around pickup. Sounds like they would be good for what you're looking for. Thanks for checking out the video!

I thought the fat pat alnico made your bright tele warm and lively.i think the veh is scooped and better for mid heavy mahogany set neck guitars.but the veh with its airy hi mids and highs made your leads sound like it was clearer with more sensitivity.im glad u went with the alnico ,I think they have more expressive range overall.

The rail ones only really seem happy as humbuckers. They lose somehting in single coil mode.

I love the VEH and Dream 180's the rest are not anything special IMO. And the Dimarzio DP100 is one of my all time favs for a Les paul style axe and no way the GFS even comes close to that one!

You made that judgement on this video with his settings, his instruments and his playing technique? That isn’t very wise.

Of these, my favorite is the VEH. They're the only ones that seem to have the dynamics I've experienced with other GFS pickups. My favorite GFS Humbucker so far is the Classic 59. It's a bit thin and trebly, but it rawks, and it explodes out of the speaker. I also like the 59 Mini and the Mean 90. Right now, I'm haplessly trying to install some GF' Trons in a Squier.

I’ve had the crunchy pat for awhile now and bought those connectors for the easier wiring, what did you use to stick the connector to the back of the pickup? Thx
@dmanguitar
@dmanguitar Год назад
All the pickups I have came with the adapters already on them so I don’t have any experience with that but I would say a little epoxy would probably do the trick.

I actually just checked out the website and it says you could also solder it to the back of the pickup. Hope that helps!

It's a riff from Metallica's Mercyful Fate track on Garage, Inc. The actual Mercyful Fate song is Into The Coven.
