When you were walking to your car I saw the "judgment free zone" . It was for the fitness place but I thought how much it could also apply to us yarnies and our hauls. 😀 Thanks for sharing!
hahaha, same. i seen that too, I'm ridiculous when it comes to yarn. i tried the blanket yarn but if i go back to it. ill use a loom instead because me and arm or finger knitting is awful. i couldn't figure it out, i recently had someone ask me if i couldn't do anything, i said, YES!! Arm knitting is not my thing, I've tried several times, i threw it across the room, and put it aside for later and possibly a future project.
I love your store . The one by me is small and old and maybe 2 aisles of yarn. I'm better off getting it in line. Thank for the trip to see all the new yarns
Great go along. But, me that caddy doesn't even start to hold a small amount of my yarn. That's after selling half of it. Still have plenty to make blankets for homeless shelters.
That was a great shopping trip - I was watching while knitting (I’m multi-craftual) and experiencing all the second hand excitement! The sales make my heart race lol. I love a big store with no other shoppers in it. You picked out some great stuff, including yarn I’ve never seen. It’s raining here too so it was very realistic lol. ❤❤❤
Love the multi-craftual I generally say bistitchual....I live in Canada where joanns is only available on line so I too live vicariously regarding us craft stores
@@sueholubeshen9960 omg love that bistitchual word 😂 and come on down to visit our craft stores! I have Joanns, Michaels, hobby lobby all within a couple miles of my house here in Michigan. I’ve been so disgusted when I recently found out how yarnies all over the world might not have any yarn stores near them. I know all of us are addicted and it’s not fair that some ppl don’t get to go to one of these stores. You and your friends should open one where you live.
I actually placed an online order for a bunch of the big twist yarns and they cancelled my entire order saying they were not in stock. I emailed them asking why they showed as available online and they told me it doesn’t update in real time and i could reorder later and they would honor the sales price. But if they end up not being in stock again, my order will be cancelled again. So how the heck am I supposed to know when they’re actually in stock? Ugh lol
I was after the glow in the dark yarn, and it'd show in stock but not really and keep getting cancelled. After several random tries, it actually got filled! But yeah you can't expect to get everything you order. Is it me or do you seem to get a better price if you do store pickup rather than go in and shop for yourself? Seems like more work for the few employees.
It was raining where you were at at the JOANN. The rain sounds very good. I know you were talking but I was listening to you and listening to the rain. Sounds good love the rain.
I have a New Tough Shed that is filled with yarn and material, needles etc. I call it The Yarn Barn. I am addicted to yarn. My husband was disabled and homebound for 16 years and I being his wife was his caregiver. He loved to watch me knit and I over bought so much yarn ...but it kept me busy and content. I worked 32 hours a week and was able to make it home on my lunch hour to check up on him and administer his meds and injections. George was my wonderful second husband. We were married for 23 years and together raised eight children. He enjoyed buying yarn in every color and weight for me. I have 36 click locked 18 gallon plastic containers filling up my Yarn Barn. When I was unable to leave the house I would search EBay and I would bid on boxes of yarn from estate sales. That was exciting and so inexpensive. So many great deals And I have met so many wonderful men and women doing this. I can't believe how expensive yarn is now. Wow... So glad I have my collection. Knitting to me is so relaxing. I started in Girl Scouts knitting and my mother who was our leader was a fabulous creator and knitter. She was also an excellent seamstress. She sewed all our clothes for my two sisters and my brother as well as herself and my father and later all the grandkids. Best of luck with your yarn hunting. Enjoy every minute 💞 Love to all you yarn lovers from Debbie and Dexter-Dog my devoted rescued Chihuahua companion living a quiet crafty life in southern California.🐣🐣🐥🐰🐇🐤🐾💕🇺🇸✝️💛❤️🌻🦩🐝 ( George fought hard but passed away sixteen years ago.....we have 23 grandkids and 8 great grandkids )💕💕😁🐾
Ginger, loved walking with you throughout your Joann's. I used to go the only I believe Joann's in Richmond where I live till My back stopped me from going out that far very often. It's pretty far out of my way. I mostly shop online, but I wrote down the majority of the brands as you were going down the aisles of several brands I was interested in. I plan to write the companies to see if can get a color chart if possible as it would help me in planning out afghans and other projects. I look forward to your next outing and please keep dry.
Hello fellow yarnivore! Your channel popped up in my feed and glad it did! I shop at the Overland Park Joann store just because of the selection. It's hard not to spend more than 2 hours perusing yarn. Lol....looks like I am going to have to make a trip up before Jan 31. Thanks for sharing your yarn haul!😊❤️
Hey Ginger, I'm sure you know this but others may not. When you buy from Joann's and there is a sale item, you can still use coupons on everything except clearance and doorbusters. There are times that you can but it has to be noted. I will shop Joann's and purchase online, pickup in store to get the 25% off....often! I work a deal on everything! They are still making plenty...especially these days.
I 1/2 years later and inventory still low/sporadic even online. Hobby L just took on inventory of Bed, B &B. They have cut their inventory of yarn to make room for the home goods.😮💨
Where is this store located please? My Joann's (in central IL) only has 2 & 1/2 aisles of yarn at most & when I was there a week & 1/2 ago the stock was very low.
Wow I thought our Joanns was big, but they don't have as long or as many aisles of yarn. There are very few craft stores around anymore. Michaels has a pretty small selection of yarn. I like if you wait a bit, usually the main brands go on sale. No reason to get anything full price. If you just need 1 ball of yarn, usually you can use a coupon. I was waiting for the Caron Party with the sparkles to go on sale because I had a project idea with them. I don't like the Red Heart texture but I like a lot of their color gradients. I admit I'm really drawn to the color mixes. I also like the ones with flecks of color in them. I like some of the Big Twists and Caron softs. There are so many neat yarns nowadays! I worked at Michaels years ago, so it's interesting some styles of yarn I remembered have disappeared. I'm still new to crocheting amigurumi, so I'm still learning how different yarns work. I saw some patterns I wanted to learn how to do, but right now I'm doing simple patterns to learn various skills and get my hands used to it first. Thank goodness for youtube tutorials.
As you were perusing the yarn aisles I kept saying, we are NOT going! Lol I’m glad you were able to grab you some great deals. I may go later on this week, not sure because I want this yarn that I saw on someone else’s channel to make a cardigan with and it’s on the Walmart app at a great price for 9 skeins (Red Heart Color Block)
Wow Ginger those are beautiful yarns you bought! They don’t have most of them at my Joann’s!!😊🧶hahahaha, it is also raining 🌧️ here in San Diego as I watch you video with rain in the background 😂😂
I wanted to let you know the color name of that Bernat Baby yarn (the one that you said looked like a cloud). It's Cloudburst. The name is in small print right below the UPC code :) Bernat likes to hide their colorway names.
I love shopping online and use my Honey app!!! Always get additional discounts! Love yarn shopping 😂❤ Big twist was on sale online I bought a bunch for $1.99 - 2.99
I couldn’t find the big twist in the multi-colorway but I did pick up two skeins of Hygge with a coupon and the cashier said was another on the website besides the app for 50% so basically paid $12 for two (large) skeins of Hygge WOOT
I believe Harbor Freight has storage options for half the price as JoAnns. The colors may not be frilly and pretty but the prices are better for toolbox style storage.
Something that just occurred to me is that there could be a yarn shortage due to the devastating Earthquake Turkey had earlier this year. I noticed a lot of yarn is made in Turkey. I’m wondering if that is why we are seeing less yarn and changes in stores like Joann and Hobby Lobby. Could just be a coincidence? Anyone have any thoughts or insights?
The Joann's near me has only a small portion of the yarn you showed in this one. I think maybe three 10' aisles, both sides. Maybe two. Not a huge yarn section. Such a shame that the units are so empty.
Our Joann doesn't have things priced right either! None of the Lion Brand yarns save for like 1 or 2 on end caps are showing the current sale. Same with the Big Twist Party and Fleck! I was shopping for something specific at least when I went, but next time I'm gonna have to ask about it
I found this yarn on sale at my JoAnns for 2.99 a few weeks back But when I looked at it, it looked like it would split easily, so I only got one. It's very soft and pretty colors, but when I worked with mine, it split horribly.
Enjoy watching your videos. Would you please include washing and drying instructions? I liked the look of the Big Twist Party Yarn, however, I noticed the label recommends machine which is good, but it cannot be dried int he dryer - it is dry flat. This is why I don't buy the Big Twist yarns.
JoAnn is terrible about being perennially understaffed (with the notable exception of the cut counter). I've had a few friends who worked @ JoAnn, and they would tell me about the extreme low pay (considering you are expected to have a certain level of knowledge and expertise in crafting just to GET a job there...), and always understaffed (like, by 25% or more relative to what the actual need was) but corporate and local management still expected everything to get done every day & with no overtime as almost all employees are part time ONLY... I don't spend nearly as much time or money at JoAnn in recent years due to this. And those inventory markers are just going to make matters worse, since the inventory workers are with an independent company so they just count what is in front of them, correct or not, which means that JoAnn management will get bad information for inventory & reordering, taxes, and any other purpose that drives the need for period inventory. Whew! Off the soap box! Great shopping trip!
I'm pretty sure that is how it is in the entire retail industry. I used to be an assistant manager for Musicland (records, cassettes, & CD's), and it was the same there plus I knew & talked to others who worked in others stores in the mall like clothing & shoe stores & it was the same for them. Only the manager, assistant manager, & maybe 1 or 2 others at the biggest & busiest stores were full time; all other employees part time no benefits. Back in the day I would have said that Joann's she was in was in no way ready for an inventory; they may be due for one & have one coming up, but they aren't ready because the common procedure in retail is/was for store employees to go through every shelf & put things where they belong before it happens. I admit I've been out of retail for a few, ahem, ok several years lol, so inventory methods may have changed & be so advanced with scanners that it doesn't matter whether anything is in it's correct place cause the scanner guns just scan the bar codes & immediately know what the product is.
Those wooden thread holders are GARBAGE!!! Most are always missing pegs by the time you paid and get it home or they flimsy little dowels easily break. At $32,it not worth it, even with the half-off coupon. I always felt also that they were overpriced in many things for the shelves to always look scarce and dirty most of the time I visited various stores. Btw, that particular store doesn’t look very well maintained either, empty and dusty shelves, product in the wrong place, mislabeled pricing…..and where are all of the store associates, sitting in the break room crocheting??? lol
Yes, I heard they are closing some. I just googled it & found an article that says they are closing 8 stores & it listed 2 locations that are known to be closing: Keene NH & Bridgeport WV. But the chain PR person said that they also have plans to open some new stores too, so I guess they aren't doing too bad, just some locations sadly will lose them.
