Going along in one them DAF cars and someone rolled the window down, the roof caved in by about 6 inches due to air pressure difference, we were going down a big hill fast. The metal used for the bodywork was so thin it like cooking foil.
@@arnehurnik Well that is a very interesting response an may also be a valid explanation! But is that the sole reason? I never have that feeling watching grass or sth else in a video. Must be the combination with that kind of surface and kinda washed out vegetation that I only know from games? As a European I also felt like in a Video game in amerika as the landscaping reminded me of (mostly US) videogames of my childhood. That wall in this video was it asian? Did I see it on an Asian GranTourismo track?
Nothing about the Citroën flat twin engine (2 CV, AMI 6, AMI 8, Méhari and more...). Nothing about the Panhard flat twin, which was used among many others by the American engineer Bill Devin, who built racing fiberglass cars.
Both the Toyota and the DAF sounded vaguely similar, and as a Dutchman I find it nice to see a DAF in here, but I would think the Citroen sounds slightly better.
The newer BMW boxers really do sound good. The rest all have a distinctive droning sound I really can't stand. Like a Honda VTX1800, it's best to keep the exhaust nice and quiet.
I'm note sure about some of those examples - whatever - Did you know that Velocette had horizontally opposed engines (both air-cooled and water cooled) one was in the LE Velocette. You gave an aero engine too - so you might check out the Bristol Cherub - (now they make much noise).
@@berniecork7416 It might interest you, that the LE Velocette we had was used to give out Dachshund some fun. A board was fastened up the (flat) tank - and straps fashioned into a harness. A suit of riding gear was made. Dog used to lean into corners like an Isle of Mann TT pro.

@@VisioRacer Yep, i recently worked at the bmw test track in Miramas and saw some cruisers based on the r18 that i think BMW is going to release soon ! they were running around the loop for hours, so i got to hear them quite a bit :) I don't know if the mufflers they had will be standard issue, but they had a nicely defined, not too loud exhaust note that was a bit like a slightly muffled harley engine, but evenly timed
My mind's eye sees that Water-cooled BMW 1200 mounted in a light fiberglass kit car or something like a Lancia Stratos . Less power, but less weight & better distribution of weight .
I don’t know if it matters, but it’s missing the Brazilian Gurgel BR800, that was equipped with a flat twin 800 cc engine, basically a half from a VW 1600 air cooled engine with a pendular support, but liquid cooled in this application.

Flat twins don’t run smooth because the cylinders are staggered by the width of the con rod big end so they all have a rocking couple. A 5 bearing 4 cylinder is way smoother

You might have misunderstood what "flat twin" means: Flat means the disposition (opposed cylinder in an horizontal configuration) Twin means two cylinders. So flat twin : two cylinders opposed goldwings use flat four and flat six, so either 4 or 6 cylinders, not 2 And yes, the bmw K series use an inline configuration, not a flat one. But the k75 and k100 have special engines nonetheless because they are disposed longitudinally, and horizontally, which is extremely rare, if not the only one done this way.
