pretty comprehensive, something I'd like to add to tip 1 is almost everytime you have a clean and tidy lap and you're on the the throttle at the right points and its still slow, it's usually going to be because you're braking too much and not carrying as much speed as you can. best way to figure this out is to go to a fast hotlap video and look at the individual apex speeds so see which corners you're overslowing for

Great tip, I'm glad you mentioned this because this is something I used to do if I seemed to be missing out somewhere. Looking at some good laps to see where you're not carrying the speed, sometimes where you are carrying too much speed. Thanks Moka!

This is a very good point indeed. The question for me then would be whether I'm breaking too early or applying too much braking power.
@flatsz
@flatsz Год назад
@@rialfe7514 it's more often related to how you get off the brakes actually, you can sometimes carry crazy amounts of speed with trail braking

this is the best tutorial on youtube in my opinion, i've watched plenty and none have explained these small yet crucial details so well

good tutorial. I'm slow and your video is very helpful. I hope. Acceleration, braking, racing lines, behavior during the race, and finally an overview of vehicle setup.

Thank you for the tips. I feel like I've been struggling to improve on consistent cornering and getting my lap times down and these tips might be a huge help !

Hope they do help! Making solid visual reference points is one of the most helpful things for getting your braking, accelerating and turning points consistent, once you're in the turn it's up to feeling what the car is doing, lots and lots of practice. Thank you for your comment :)

Addendum to this video: @Aris.Drives from KUNOS has a good video named "How to race". There is an explanation way you'll bump an opponent if you are close to him at high speed and brake at the ***same*** braking point as he. It's down to math. I would suggest every new (and new-ish) simracer to watch his video if you want to learn more about racing in general.

While I THOUGHT I was trail braking, I was actually not since I am the type that is releasing too early and harshly. Thanks for the video. I was able to realize that I'm doing it incorrectly and how I should be properly doing it, but, I have one question - what brake pressure level am I aiming for when braking? If I hit 100%, I lock up, no? Should I be aiming for 96? Is there a particular number or range I want to be hitting? For any relevancy to my question, I'm using the Thrustmaster T-LCM pedals with the bushing mod, I'm trying to adjust my brake force in the Thrustmaster pedals software so I properly hit the right number or range, and I mainly play R3E (RaceRoom Racing Experience). Thanks for any help you can give! I look forward to putting this into practice/racing CORRECTLY, thank you! ☺️👍

What about shifting down during braking? how it is better to do this? as fast as possible or it is better to wait till rpm falls to minimum and after this switch to lower gear?
@daslate3974
@daslate3974 Год назад
I’d say it’s better to downshift too slow than too fast, because when you downshift super quickly during a corner and are at a high rpm it’s similar to giving the car gas and can cause you too over rotate the car.

Is it okay to lean that heavily into the ABS in your braking example at T2 at Laguna Seca @9:13 ? I go full brake, then modulate to minimize ABS engagement. Not sure if this is more effective than relying on ABS.
@unleasheddrivers1281
@unleasheddrivers1281 2 года назад
ABS doesn't seem to have a significant effect on braking performance in ACC, theres nothing wrong with modulating your brake as you are. If it's working for you then dont stop because that's a good habit. Avoiding the ABS is much more important in iRacing where the cars handling is heavily affected if you're hitting the ABS. I've never had issues in the past with such hard braking in ACC

Useful tips, even if not new to me. My problem is that every time i see suggestion for reference point for braking, no way I can turn in if I brake at that point too. I will miss the corner completely. Checking replay etc I’m braking 100% at the same spot, nevertheless going long. What can depend on? If we are talking about ACC I’m always using aggressive setup with practically no changes. Any clue? Thanks.
@unleasheddrivers1281
@unleasheddrivers1281 2 года назад
Thank you! And without a visual example its quite difficult to suggest but quite possibly maybe in the case that you brake this late, you are holding the brake for too long? As you reach turn in point, you need to be coming off of the brakes as you turn in. Maybe you have the braking reference correct but are you braking just a tiny bit too far beyond the correct point? Another thing could be related to one of my first points in this video. Are you applying the brake too slowly? You need to from 0 - 100% brake quickly. It's hard to give too many other solutions without seeing what's happening but I hope you're able to find what it is
@rialfe7514
@rialfe7514 Год назад
It may also be your brake bias. The further back it is the later you'll be able to brake.

I own a golitech g923. In your opinion, what are the appropriate settings for this steering wheel in AssettoCorsaCompetizione?
@unleasheddrivers1281
@unleasheddrivers1281 2 года назад
I used to race with a Logitech G920 prior to 2021, back then I always just used the default settings so i do not have many suggestions unfortunately. I have been using a direct drive Simagic M10 for a year now which feels very different.

In ACC just 100% braking 24/7. No really braking technique needed. Everyone is braking 100% 24/7. Dry, wet, flooded,… all conditions. Purpose of ABS is non existant. Everyone’s ABS is on 1-2-3 maximum in every condition. Does Lockups even happen ? ACC must make this braking realistic cause in real life GT3 I never saw someone that is braking 100%. Always around +- 70%. Look to onboard videos where there is a brake and throttle bar.
@unleasheddrivers1281
@unleasheddrivers1281 2 года назад
Trail braking in ACC is still an important technique to go fast, but entering braking zones it is generally always 100%.
