I really appreciate your videos! I’ve been a barista and food service manager for a few years now, and am working on plans to start my own cafe. All of the points you touch on in this video are so accurate. I have worked at multiple cafes and been a customer at many more. Flat or poorly directed lighting is such a pet peeve. It makes even the nicest of places feel dingy and undesirable. I cannot stand the clutter creep. I have helped so many cafes declutter- and I always wonder to myself how things get so bad. The counters look like a kindergarten art project, or a lost and found board. Consider flow before the buildout!!! Some of the places I’ve worked at would need to redo all of their plumbing and countertops to make things more efficient. It’s not happening, and they’re stuck with it. I’m not sure if this is helpful to others, but consistency in graphic design, art style, and branding matter!!! We have had so many decently talented employees who were all given free rein to design signage with no guidance whatsoever. It makes customers feel like they’re in a few different shops at the same time. I’ve worked to streamline the graphic design and create palettes for two of the cafes I’ve worked at- but boy oh boy. What a mess they were!!! I’m a bit tired and hopped up on painkillers as I’ve just gotten some teeth pulled, so sorry if this isn’t the most eloquent or helpful of comments. Rock on, and thank you again for all of your wonderful videos and information!!!
Thanks for posting this! The timing of this content is right on point for me. I just met with my design team for the first time this week. While I feel I have your list covered, it's helpful to get that reassurance and to keep these in mind as critical points.
Fantastic content!! Thanks so much :D Please post more more more!!! I'm watching EVRYTHING you post on this topic. Super interesting stuff and very insightful. 🤯👌👌
Love it. Even though I never open a cafe lol. Yes mistake #4, as a customer I prefer sitting on a nice chair can be wooden, sofa is not my thing, as it sinking into it. (p.s. I am not over weight.)
Obviously as a cafe owner you would want to promote your specials, but you also want to avoid clutter. What's your opinion on a tablet off to the side rolling through a slideshow of specials and offers?
it's a bit too iffy for the customers as they have to approach the counter, look off to the side, and then look back at the counter. we want as minimal a movement from the customer as possible. what you can do is use TVs above the counter as the menu and have one of them have the promos or posters below the counter
Another amazing video! Would love to connect and discuss our product which would be an amazing way for coffeeshops and cafes to connect to both locals and tourists, not only help connect these customers but also help with retention. A brilliant cost effective way. We would also love to look at some sort of sponsorship deal if you are interested?
Your uncle's brother's yoga studio? Do you refer to your dad as your uncle's brother? Reminds me of how Jim Marrs would refer to Hillary Clinton as Monica Lewinsky's boyfriend's wife.
