No, actually R33s is hard to import especially the R34 because of the huge mid 2000s scandal if importers tagging R34's as R33 and using crash data from R32s to tag them. This landed 2 or 3 people for some serious jail time and permanently grey marketed all skylines but R32 and older. You can still import R33s but its very costly now.

actually, there is a company in the US that imports the Maloo's as rollers and then puts the corvette engines and Gm transmission in them and sells them legal for US use. Some in Right hand drive, some converted to left hand drive.

How many Crown Victoria's, Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Towncars does Australia have? I'm guessing not many....And to me as a person that has owned several of each spanning decades or model years...thats strange to me... I can't imagine living life without seeing at least a few of these not including the one I have each day.

I was thinking that. I guess as the manufacturers decided not to sell it there they didn't make any attempt at designing it to pass American regulations. I was expecting cars that would never be allowed into the US even with a mountain of paperwork. Turns out these days anything could be banned, but more as a technicality, they must have passed strict tests somewhere to be sold anywhere. For most broad market cars like a MINI or a Tesla, they have an incentive to make them all 'world cars' that can be sold anywhere.

Any car not sold for the US Domestic Market is BANNED from being imported. All of these cars are banned from the US until they are 25 years old. Why? Not because of emissions, not because of crash tests. None of that. The Dodge Demon failed crash tests, yet it's still legal. It BARELY passed emissions, yet it's still legal. It also makes 3x the horsepower of a stock R34 GTR, yet IT IS STILL LEGAL! Why they ban cars from being imported until they are considered "classic cars" is to minimize losses on taxing the purchase of cars. If people started importing better, more reliable, more fun, more exciting cars from other countries then they wouldn't be buying cars from the US, meaning our market would plummet. Why America makes this such an issue? Because we're greedy retards who like to jerk off in the name of "Freedom" then turn around and spout about how "free" we are.

The Skyline would have blown the doors off of Ford Taurus sales (not the GTR, the normal Skyline 4-door sedans) because its a much more reliable midsized family sedan and better on gas and cheaper.

Both are responsible for bankrupting other car manufactures, by making other car manufactures (such as Eagle and Holden) vehicles look worse, or run worse by purchasing cheaper quality parts that's caused both GM and Chrysler to have to pay out millions upon millions in lawsuits for wrongful death, all to prevent a recall of vehicles. It's not even the cost of recall that both companies fear, it's the bad publicity they fear.

AndreikC2 Motorex was found to be illegally signing r34s as street legal. They only really tested the r33 and said it applied to all r32-34 skylines and most were confiscated and crushed because of this. They later became defunct

The guys from lefthandutes take a chassis from an american pontiac G8 or a Chevy SS and put the body and all other components of an Aussie Ute on it, thats why they are legal.

@@andyturbo Ford never made any LHD Falcons and they were never designed to be LHD-able (EG: no firewall stamping for LHD steering column), whilst Holdens were intended to be exported (and were, all over the world) Utes in the USA have always been a tiny niche market compared to "proper" pickups and this is compounded by the factor that CAFE standards calculations put a lot of pressure against selling such vehicles (this is why the armada of tiny Datsun & Mazda pickups went away and what remained grew dramatically in size) The original wave of rebadged Holden Utes went away because they were only selling a few hundred per year and with a market that size, having to crash test a bunch of them to satisfy the USA regulators(*) was a _very_ expensive undertaking and would have doubled the price of the cars (*) instead of being allowed to use the AU-standard crash test results - as with European ones(**), these are derived from and in step with USA ones so are functionally equivalent) (**) This is also why so few European models are seen in the USA. Between this crash test requirement and USA's "oddball" (ie: not the same as the rest of the world) DOT lighting standards (vs UN(LHD) and UN(RHD), the American government has erected a "non-tariff trade barrier" and created a captive market(***) for American manufacturers (***) It's also a gilded cage. American interests (certain makers and politicians) have had major tantrums when told they must comply with UN(LHD/RHD) standards if selling in other countries and attempted to persuade the USA government to initiate trade wars in order to force foreign governments to allow them to sell their cars unmodified in Europe and in RHD countries
