Hello Se7eN - glad your garden has helped you mentally - growing your own fruits and veggies is rewarding in so many ways and the taste is out of this world! Thanks for stopping by! 🍅Please visit my seed and garden shop, calikimgardenandhome.com, for CaliKim Seed Collections (fall garden, container garden, spring garden, tomato, heat tolerant greens, herbs, lettuce, flowers, and more), fabric containers and signed copies of my book, Organic Gardening for Everyone: Homegrown Vegetables Made Easy. Thank you!
Hi Molly - glad you enjoyed it ! It literally is one of the easiest trellises you could make all by yourself! Super flexible. I like it so much, I'm going to install 2 more. Do you have a good spot for one? Thx for watching!
I used your tip to grow cucumbers in a tomato cage with another one inverted and zip tied on top and it worked amazingly! Looking forward to try the cave with zucchini because my 2 plants literally took over the garden! It's the only vegetable that I've ever witnessed actually move around the garden.
Best wishes on your surgery. My husband & I are both gardeners, hubby was crook in April, knocked him for six, only last 3 weeks he's been feeling almost like his normal self. Our garden is quite large also. We both got stuck into it, In the past 2 weeks,it's now up to scratch. Ready for our spring. We have many fruit trees, our blood oranges, lemons, grapefruit are ready to harvest. So I'll be in the kitchen making 3 fruit marmalade & orange Cointreau jams. I make & gift them to my friends. I love watching your RU-vids. Thank you for sharing your tips. From Penrith, NSW Australia.
Cucumbers, will grow on a trellis, space master variety Beans, all summer long, garden or container, any spaces Squash, any variety, transplants or direct seed planting Basil, start seedlings 3 weeks earlier, grows fast. Swiss chard, plant from seed, or do transplants. .....chard is both heat and cold tolerant, very hardy Zennias, flowers for a splash of colors.
Hi Quick Gardener - enjoy your binge watch! Which video is your fav so far? Thx for stopping by to watch this one too. What veggies are you planting in August?
If your basil is “dying out” try harvesting more regularly. Yours are quite large. I harvest every 3 days at this rate and always have some drying and always have fresh whenever I need it.

Hi Melissa, way to go! Depending on where you live, you can get a new wave of these warm weather veggies growing, or get some fall veggies growing, or both. Have fun and thanks for stopping by! 🍅Please visit my seed and garden shop, calikimgardenandhome.com, for CaliKim Seed Collections, fabric containers and signed copies of my book, Organic Gardening for Everyone: Homegrown Vegetables Made Easy. Hi Carl, great to hear, your comment really motivates CameraGuy and I to keep making videos. Are you planting any of these veggies right now? Have a great weekend!
thanks for sharing your knowledge and garden. I have a small garden in North County and learned to grow basil from you. I had a rodent problem because of the large open field behind my house. Lately the crows have been coming in the yard to take them away. Yay! You make gardening so simple and relaxing which has helped me a lot. Thank you.
My local Home Depot did not have the cucumber trellis, i.e. Ladder mesh or Lowe's calls it Steel mesh Sheet, but Lowe's did, in case you cannot find it at Home Depot. 8 inches by 10 feet.
I just bought the late summer collection!!! I love looking for your videos to give me advice for my garden. The first video I ever watched was about how to start a compost, that was before I had a vegetable garden a year ago. Now, I have a growing garden!!! Thank you for your morning garden walks, Monday postings and your detailed videos!!
As you were doing it, I thought a good idea would be to split the bamboo long way and put the wire edges into that and possibly adding zip ties here and there along the length.

Can you do a video on melons? I saw an awesome trick by someone in Taiwan where he placed the seeded plants in bags of soil mixtures, and then used a plastic bottle in the middle of 2 plants to feed/water them. The bags were elevated on bamboo poles, and he grew some beautiful watermelons. I found out that watermelons improved my blood pressure so much, I no longer had to take a prescription drug to lower it. So I am interested in how you might grow them. Right now I have several varieties of melons popping up, and watermelons.
We are about ready to plant our fall to winter garden as well. You are absolutely right about trellis it is one among our favorite gardening method as well. I really enjoy watching you make room for more plants in your already lush and full garden. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Kim ... I appreciate you so much and I’m so grateful for your videos! Ive been a gardener for a long time but I had never ventured into vegetable gardening until this past spring. I started with two 4x4 raised garden beds and after watching you got so excited about the smart pots. I’ve bought several seed collections from you along with the signature CALIKIM pot. Currently I am having a ball watching bush beans, space master cucumbers, the heat tolerant greens, thumbelina zinnias, and even my own butternut squash and zucchini growing from SEEDS!!! Thank you for all your encouragement and gardening knowledge that you are sharing with us and let me ENCOURAGE YOU in that it is so clear to me that you are doing what GOD created you to do!!! ROCK ON SISTER!!!
Hi Cheryl - what an encouragement this comment is to me, totally made my day. I definitely feel very blessed to be able to do what I love to so. So motivating to hear your excitement about growing veggies. Have you harvested anything yet? Thanks so much for taking the time to express such kind words!
CaliKim29 Garden & Home DIY YES ... I have harvested cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, bell and banana peppers and crookneck squash from my first planting’s! The extreme weather conditions in Charleston SC when i started in May went from unusually high heat for a period of time into a long period of nothing but rain so I learned about powdery mildew and over loving through to much watering. I had to pull out my squash, cucumbers, zucchini and cantaloupe plants that looked awful and plant a second round through your constant encouragement and also your succession planting teaching which I love and hope to accomplish. I’m looking forward to getting your beautiful book from my hubby since it will be on my Christmas List this year. Truly thankful for you!
Thank you claim n this summer I have cactus n tomatoes to plant cuz I learn this from ur videos n I will order helicopter to sip some of my plants to another country cuz where I live is a dry season n not enough water to water them all the time n wish you good luck on ur beautiful garden
Thanks, Rocky! I'm excited to add a little more growing space. In fact, I installed two more of these easy trellises today! Are you starting any new veggies? Thanks for watching!
@@CaliKim29 Great idea with the trellises for the cucumber. Will pass it on to my cousin 😀 I am new to growing my own food, but have watched your channel for a while. Love it 👏 I have planted tomatoes, peppers and lettuce 😀
I planted some Rainbow chard and some little black bugs came and caused the leaves to curl, they were under the leaves of the plant. What were they and how can I stop them from destroying the chard. I am going to plant some more and I'd love to be the one eating it instead of giving it to my two chickens! Thank you for helping me learn about how to plant in a small garden. Mine is smaller than yours...I have to plant in large pots due to gophers!! It is limiting but I have managed to grow some edibles. I have Lacinato Kale in the front in pots and I put netting over them to keep out the aphids, it works. I may do the netting for the chard as well. I have sadly given up on growing zucchini since no bees come, tho I have marigolds around, I was getting up early and being a bee, pollinating the plants (I learned on youTube) but there wasn't enough of either the male or the female blossoms to make it worthwhile. I was successful using your idea of growing watermelon up on a round wire, grew two Sugar Baby ones about 8" across, they were delicious, I'd love to grow more, is it too late in the season? I live in Central Calif, we are still getting hot weather. I am 76 and this is the first time in my life I have had an area where I can plant anything. I love eating the plants I've grown, it is such a satisfying thing to do. I know this is long and there's more I'd like to say but I'll stop now. ~Anna
This was great. I did just clear out radishes which grew very fast and planted more carrots. I am excited about the August thing though. Thanks Cali Kim Goddess of all things that grow and are beautiful!
Just discovered your channel!! Had bought a bean seed collection and micro greens from you and I just realized it was from you yesterday!!! So glad to “meet” and learn from you. LOVE the ladder mesh idea and looked for some yesterday and I’m going to Home Depot today to find them I hope. Thank You!!! My cucumbers will love it and me too!!! I love growing vertically! God bless you Kim!

So thankful to learn o have time to plant more squash/zucchini! Thanks for this. Going to plants more cucumber and flowers!! You are very much appreciated!! 💜🤠👩🏽🌾
I grow two Tomato crop a year. First crop April to 4th of July. Pull up the old plants put in new ones started from suckers from the previous ones. Harvest right up till Thanksgiving if weather permits. I'm in Alabama.
spacemaster cukes are a bush vine..the vine isnt a long one though..the company told me maybe 4-5?? feet or so...and prolific producers. We're growing 5 LRG containers with 2 in each....WAYYYY way too many. Great video Kim..thanks.
i am very lucky, I live in cape town South Africa, Mediterranean climate and I grow anything at any time. Slower in winter and bolting in summer so shade cloth helps.
Thank you Calikim for the great ideas with the trellises. I have some that have been sitting idle since early spring when I was using them to put covers over my plants. I never thought to use them as trellises. I put them between 2 squash plants, another for my sweet potato vines and a different trellis for a lone sweet potato. They look terrific!! I am new to your channel, but have subscribed. I started with your tomatillos video as I have 6 plants and they are doing the best I've ever had them do. (This is my second year growing them :) ) Will be watching more of your videos.

Hi thanks for your videos! You helped me learn how to grow basil and to propagate it. This year I have much more veggies and planted in ground. I'm wondering where your located? I see your planting in august. I'm in zone6 in Massachusetts and wanted to plant some More items. I wasn't sure if I still can. I did pick up beans and have planted those. I also got volunteer tomatoes that are doing well. Thanks for your help.
I used to do gardening in Utah. I was doing my PhD at Utah State U in Logan. Every summer Ihe school rented garden plots for students at only US$20 per semester. I used to plant 20-30 types of veggies. It was fun then. Gardening then was also a socializing event, we gardeners would chat and exchange info with each other. Now back in Malaysia, I am also doing home vegetable gardening in my tiny plot of land
Thanks for sharing! I have been looking for trellis and found then expensive. Your ladder mesh is really a good price $7+ for 2!!! Wow! Nice video btw!
I found the idea for growing squash or zucchini vertically to be wonderfully and space saving. I actually used my tomatoe cages upside down and had no issue with it weaving it's way up
Just put my second round of cukes, zukes, squash, beans and herbs in my garden beds. Hoping the vine borers are finished devastating my first round of crops.
I love urban gardeners.... I am a rural gardener and feed at least 10 homes plus make $$$$ from outside sales.... I also teach home food storage and canning. I did take a class and read several scientific studies which recorded findings on safe home food preservation. Also took a class on preserving foods through KSU.... Their is mixed but if you read all the info and start doing research you will find that some are scientific supported and some of them are politically fed.
I've always wanted to grow in the winter. Thankyou for such a beautiful video that is so informative. I'm glad you included the chard at the end, and i'll add kale too. Your soil looks beautiful.
Calikim we are Filipino small youtuber,Vlogging different topics but Planting is our passion...we thought vlogging about planting won't work until we came across your channel...I thank God for this ...we've found our niche....about gardening..thanks for inspiring!...Hope you can visit our channel .
I love the trellis. Thank you Kim. I'm a new subscriber. I'm sure I can't have one like yours in my country. But I can do some DIY. And luckily I live in tropics, so I can plant all year long. My only problem is I don't have enough space. So your trellis is a wonderful idea.
Thank you for the wonderful tips and tricks I have recently planted a whole slew of fall crops including broccoli Swiss chard cucumbers zucchini green beans more basil winter squash arugula lettuce I'm pretty stoked for the fall harvest beans the deer ate most of my summer harvest 😬

Im moving into my forst house with a yard in two weeks. It will be the first time ive ever been able to have a garden. Im heading over to your website to buy these now!
After planting seedling starts for 6 years I will never do it again. Plants that you get from direct sowing are so much better. This goes with trees too. Trying my hand at bush beans this year
Hi Kadri - I agree - I'm learning every day too! Cukes grow so fast, you'll love having late crop. I plant them every few weeks in the summer, don't want to be without. Let me know how yours grow!

From Lil Giant I appreciated idea about trellis, but certainly hope more info available about items and you do not just throw people in when they are looking to purchase. For instance, is there an area to purchase things you have purchased here, if do you need to remember these multiple things you have mentioned? Als, I am looking for heirloom seeds for prep collection. Do you have? I am DEFINITELY a novice gardener. Do not know about half the things you listed for purchase at Amazon.
@@henryvalero9235 Glad you are gardening, growing your own food is so rewarding! I always put links to supplies I use in the video description. My book, Organic Gardening for Everyone, Homegrown Vegetable Made Easy is a great resource for you as a beginning gardener, linked in the pinned comment above. Many of my 20 seed collections are heirloom, link is also above. Happy Gardening!
Hey Kim, thanks for your tips. Your garden videos are super exciting and inspiring me to go on in my garden. Happy gardening and best wishes from Germany Kim
I'm in zone 5 but a couple of farmers have told me that we are suppose to get an extended time of warm weather, an Indian Summer. I'm going to try this and if it gets cold I'll just put a hoop tunnel over it. Thanks.
Inkdraft Try some hardy plants like radishes, kale, swiss chard. They can even handle a mild frost. Bush beans grow fast, so plant some today. Black beans, if you have any in your cupboards, or other kinds. Just plant some and see what happens, it is a fun activity.
Hello Kim~ Great ideas, especially the ladder from Home Depot. I live in SoCal, San Diego County and my HD doesn't have the ladder mesh. What county do you live in? I can search the HD by zip and find some (having the item# would also help). Love your space-saving, money-saving ideas. Recreated them in my garden. BTW been meaning to say Thank You for turning me on to the Smart Pots. Holy Man are they awesome! Purchased several different sizes, thanks to you. Amazing results! Keep up the great work! It's nice to have someone who promotes gardening in Cali. I believe your growing zone is similar to mine. When you mention certain varieties, I listen. I will be growing watermelon and cantaloupe, because you showed me it's doable here. Side Note: fresh mint and cayenne pepper on and around the cantaloupe will repel the critters. Worked for my white peach tree. Wish I could eliminate the Japanese Beetles and Wasps in my tree! Any ideas? Thank you for your generosity in bringing videos to all of us! Rita G
Thanks for this! I am really happy to hear that chard lasts long into the summer. I just transplanted my slicing cucumbers to the garden and squash a few days ago. Thanks for the tip regarding the trellis as I have zucchini plants taking over everything! I will def be transplanting some of my zinnias now that you raised the point about pollinators. Cheers
Romano bush beans grow fast. You can get successive harvests by planting every 2 weeks. Spray with Neem oil to keep bugs and deer away. Greetings from "Mayberry," NC.
I haven't had one of your video's recommended in a while ! Anywhoo, living here in the Hot, inland Phoenix-Metro area, it is always interesting to see how different the planting seasons are for most others ! Here, largely hoping to keep summer crops alive & healthy ! But pretty soon--we hit about ~8 months of prime growing season. Nice video ! :)
