Buy The Deep State on Reverb: shorturl.at/XDNJR
Joe Bonamassa and Way Huge's Jeorge Tripps-a pair of experts that know a thing or two about tone-put their minds together for the ultimate Klon clone: the new Way Huge Deep State.
Available exclusively on Reverb, the Deep State delivers all of the dreaminess of the original for just $189.99, a mere fraction of the thousands of dollars you'd have to pay for a real Klon Centaur.
For such the ultimate Klone, it needed to be put to the ultimate test, so Joe set up two rigs. On one side, a 6-figure rig of the Klon Centaur, a vintage Burst, and a Dumble. On the other, the Deep State with an Epiphone Lazarus Burst and a Fender Sidekick Reverb 25.
Hear for yourself how the Deep State holds up. Act fast to order one yourself-supplies are limited and expected to sell out quickly.

I think Joe’s point is that all you need is $200 pedals and just some basic equipment and just don’t lust after expensive gear for no good reason. You can like it that’s fine but it’s not gonna really make you sound very different. I think the guitar gear market is completely out of control so I agree with him. $1000 worth of gear today can sound like almost anything you want. After that, it’s up to you in your hands so you can save some money this way. I’m not even talking about playing live with the band where you can barely hear what you’re doing anyways at least most of the subtleties of this stuff gets lost and you just kind of hear the fundamental.

Never thought I’d see Joe playing an amp I actually own. I’ve had the same Sidekick since the late 90s as a home practice amp, and also as my main backup for all my live gigs, before I retired from gigging. People can say what they want about them, but I’ve owned it longer than I owned any of my other Fender/Marshall/Vox/Ampeg/Traynor tube amps, and it’s gotten more playing hours logged on it than anything else I’ve owned too.

News flash, they won't sound much different. Maybe in the room there are nuances but all the tonewood, paint, name on the headstock are all marketing gimmick. Comes down to pickups and the amp. Amp will drive 95% of the overall "tone" that can be tweeked to compensate for small guitar nuances. Find a comfortable guitar that enspires you to pick it up and spend most of your budget on the amp. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n02tImce3AE.htmlsi=h9ipweb0aJ8Twp_y

I love how the Deep State through the Sidekick almost has a fuzz quality to the tone, just without all of the normal artifacts of a fuzz. Of course those fuzz artifacts are cool and are what makes a fuzz fuzzy, but sometimes you want that thick and smooth fuzz tone without those artifacts and that's really a tough thing to get with an actual fuzz. You have to pick so lightly and walk a tightrope of it being too dark and dull but if you try and pick harder or turn the volume/tone up more for more definition you get the artifacts. Super neat!

So, the title is misleading really. He seems to be comparing two pedals, not the amps and guitars so much. If the amps are set to clean... well, then how are you comparing them if you only are running overdrive pedals? Better to just compare those 2 pedals into the same amp and guitar like he apparently does around 4:44. Only change ONE VARIABLE or you won't be able to know what is what. When he compares pedals using the same amp and guitar, there's basically not much difference I can hear. But with different amp and guitar, the Fender/Epiphone/Deep State setup is less focused. Bit more woofy. Another thing is the sound is not directly related to how a guitar FEELS in your hands and how easy it plays. Those things are not put forth here because.. you can't. You'd have to actually play one to find out.

The Les Paul sounds a little bit clearer. The Epiphone sounds a little bit more midrange. I can't say whether in the context of a song or a live performance it would make a huge difference. I don't think so. I have a Squier and a Fender guitar and when I record them they sound almost the same, so it's kind of like this experiment.

The $1400 rig sounds really good (with JB playing thru it)...until you hear the 6-figure rig. It's either the '59 LP, the Dumble or the Klon, but most likely the combination that is making the difference. The 6-figure rig has more soul...harmonic content or something that the $1400 rig doesn't have. I don't know for sure, but the Epiphone LP probably has wax potted pickups where the '59 LP's pickups are certainly not potted. The lack of wax potting makes for a way huge difference in articulation that is very evident in the 6-figure rig.

If you know what you are hearing and listening to there is a huge difference, but average person will never know they are not the same rig. The difference is in the clarity, less muddy and more distinct notes even at Joe's speed.
