Looking forward to jacking up the 2001 sonoma I just acquired a few months ago this truck has serious potential. I'm in love. Love seeing what you've done as well man! They installed a posi lok which I'm happy with for sure. My brother in law doesn't mess around and has set this up nicely.
Thanks man I really appreciate that!!! I'm really glad I made this video I guess I need to do more I've had a lot of guys with S10 Crew cabs wanting to do a suspension lift.
@@waltersteffensthezr2man431 I have a regular cab chevy colorado I've been working on. Its only a 2wd but I put a tacoma leveling kit on it with 31s and it looks just right for that truck
Go with a 3" body lift. I had a '99 ZR2 with a 6" suspension lift and the 2" body lift because they said a 3" wouldn't work. I later swapped to a 3" and never had a problem. I cleared 35's. Only rubbing I had was when I had it full turn in reverse. The back of the tire would rub.
Hey Walter! I love the build on your Sonoma. I have a 2002 crew cab as well, except bright red. You’re the only person I’ve found that has done this lift in this truck and I’m seriously considering of doing the same thing with the 6” rough country lift. Was hoping we could get in contact with each other to talk about it!
When I first bought the truck, I didnt really know anything about it but i love it now lol but yeah iv notice that with my search for parts and stuff. Also, you dont see these crew cabs out in the wild off road that much ether. Rite now I'm debating wich lift kit to get but id like to do a sas tho
Wish I would've seen this before I purchased and installed the 2.5 inch lift from RC on my 2004 CrewCab! Like everyone else on here I believed RC saying that it wouldn't fit so I went with the 2.5.
Absolutely no modifications needed just follow the instructions that come with a rough country kit if they're still making it. I sold that truck about a year ago I'm about to do a lift on my 19 Colorado ZR2.
Ive been told that the favtor lift is a 2.5" on a zr2, and if you do the 6" lift youll only gain at least 3 inches of lift. Is this true or not? Thanks!
You would gain 6 inches I have a buddy with a 97 ZR2 extended cab but it's a 6inch superlift and he's only able to run 33s and they rub! But he's running a really negative offset wheel. can't guarantee you that a rough country 6 inch lift will work on a true ZR2. They say at RC it does not fit but then again that's what they said about the crew cab LOL. I'm not positive but I think your control arms CV axle and tie rods are slightly longer than a standard 4x4 s10 and I know that the rear axle is 4 inches wider. But as long as you're crossmembers aren't wider than a standard 4x4 it should work! You will have to do some homework on that one 😉
I fashioned some metal brackets to hold them in place firmly. I also used Wide 3M tape I would have definitely been willing to drill the holes where the studs would go only problem is the donor vehicle all the studs were rusted out so they all snapped
Plus one thing I learned a true ZR2 wheel well is cut out slightly different to accommodate 31-inch tires. I didn't want to cut into my 4.5 ft truck bed so the back ones don't fit so great on the back side it's close but not perfect.
I have the exact same amount of lift on my 97 S10 Standard Cab Stepside & really like how your lower front shocks mounts have been relocated to the top of the upper control arm. Did you do that yourself or was it part of your lift kit? Also, did it effect your ride quality? Thank you in advance.
Funny you say that about the shocks I relocated them to the original mounting points almost a year ago I'm also running the RC 2.5 lift in combination with the six if you subscribe you'll see in my other videos We're I talk about it.
How strange I believe you commented a while back but I don't see the comment any more? rough countries official website Chevrolet S10 4 x 4 6 inch lift kit 98-04 don't go out of your way to mention crew cab they won't sell to you if you do!
Do you know where I can get fender flares like that? I have an 01 Sonoma that I bought and both driver side front and back fender flares are cracked and I can’t seem to find any
Go with 1.5 inch spacers for the rear and it will be almost perfect I think 2, inch could be to much. I got mine from eBay bolt pattern 5 on 4.75 get the ones that have the center cone lip in the middle they are better than the flat one's.
I've never been able to confirm the exact difference in the front of a true ZR2 so I can't say with certainty yes I haven't been able to confirm if the frame is wider in the front if it is there's not much difference I just haven't taken measurements yet!
Hey Walter. Drew here, my dad just passed and I now have his 03 crew cab Tennessee truck. Ordered my 6in lift. Rough country says the cross members are different did you experience that?
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Sorry to bother you but I've found a good deal on tires for my truck and was wondering if the 33x11.5x15 or 33x12.50x15 would fit on this with the 6in lift. I'm being told they will not fit. Wasn't looking to add body lift either. You really seem to be the only (answer man) on this.. help is definitely appreciated.. thanks.
Yes of course they are the same trucks ZR5 is an appearance package. Nerf bars , bed rails, roof rails, different Wheels, and some had plastic fender flares. And if you had a Sonoma they came with a bull bar. Thanks for subscribing!!
I have a 2002 s10 crew cab 4wd. Now did you just order your 6 inch RC lift for a ex-cab?? There web site says it wont fit a crew cab. I just wanted to make sure exactly what you ordered yours for before i order 1.... Thanks for any information.
Hey man so I have the ls 4.3l crew cab. I contacted rough country and they said the 6in lift doesnt fit the crew cab? They said there was a drive line issue and it would void the warranty. Did you experience this and does the ZR2 have a different suspension than the basic crew cab? Been wanting to put on the 6in lift for awhile but the sales reps can't really tell me what the issues are. Thanks for any help you can provide.
As I've told many other commenters that kit will fit your crew cab just fine it must be a liability issue. If you sub to my channel you will see other videos my most recent one shows the lift kit in more detail.
I have the ZR2 rear axle which is 4 in wider than the crew cab OEM axle. There never was a ZR2 crew cab I Frankenstein's mine because I always wanted a ZR2 LOL.
Either order the kit online or tell them you have an extended cab. the crew cab is literally built on the extended cab frame there is absolutely no difference in the suspension.
I’m 14 and just bought a 2002 Sonoma and it came with a 2 inch lift and 32 inch tires but I have no idea what the first thing I should do as an upgrade any suggestions
Well first of all you're pretty lucky to have a truck at 14 LOL I would say one of the most useful upgrade would be to change out the front headlights and bulbs with LEDs.
Hey I just purchased a 4 door Sonoma and I know that many places say it won’t work. I also know that you’re swearing up and down that it would work. I’m just curious, how is it holding up? And has there been any problems? Thanks!
Way better than the 2.5 as long as you don't crank your torsions up like I had to do in this video honestly I should have just purchased 33s I wouldn't have needed to crank them up plus the 35s do consume a pretty good amount of power! I really need to be running 4/56 gears to restore the power back but I'm making it work as is! Thanks for commenting 😊👍
Walter Steffens ok good, I just got a crew cab and wanted to do the 6 inch lift but got a little concerned when all I saw Rough country. And true but the 35’s look really good on there.😂
@@markcecci3557 just so you know I have a 2 inch body lift as well I would honestly not go bigger than 33's especially if you want factory ride quality! Also Mine came stock with 373 gears. more than likely you will have the gu6 RPO code that indicates that your gear ratio is 342. Mine was special order from the factory with lower gears for towing. They came stock with p 235/75r15s so a 35 is like 6inch bigger!! And yes rough country is the only lift available other than BDS and there lift runs over 2,400!!
Walter Steffens The one I just got has 3.42 but I’m going to regear it to 3.73 and I was going to do a 17 with 33’s. And does BDS still make theirs? I’ve seen it and would prefer that but anywhere I’ve looked said they stopped making it.
@@markcecci3557 well then rough country is your only option now!! I know BDS was getting low on stock! If I were you I would opt for the non torsion drop kit it's easier to install and I think it's better no torsion bars exposed
What modifications did you have to make to get the kit to work with a crew cab? I was looking at this kit for my s10 Crew cab but the rough country site says it isn't compatible
I have done this to my crew cab Sonoma and I’m having my front drive shaft break at the u-joint near the transfer case, and I never use my 4wd I drive it daily, and it keeps having issues, have you had this problem
Sure have that's the only complaint I can come up with. I went online and bought just the new knuckle. I figured if I continue to have problems I'll get it custom-made 1 inch longer. So far the new joint has held up!! It was like 50 bucks online make sure it has the c-clip and the grease.
Also if your front drive shaft is turning while you're in 2 wheel drive your encoder motor may be stuck in 4 by 4 just pull your driveshaft off until you can get it fixed that's what I did!
Lund they actually still make them to this day but they don't look the same you can get a sun visor on eBay for about $195 the one in this video I gave it away to a co-worker who also had a crew cab S10 I now have a moon visor which has lights in it I got an amazing deal on it indigo blue!!
Black d window wheels I got off eBay LOL tires I got from where I work. Toyo tires are always wider than most I should have gotten 15x10s instead I got a deal on 15x8s.
@@waltersteffensthezr2man431 very nice. It looks good with the lift. Lucky you that you moved to Florida where there is no snow and less salt depending on where you live lol.
Axle flip for the rear gets you approximately 5.5 in. front is achieved by drop down cross members and if drop. They will send you the instruction it may take 16 to 20 hours to do by just depends on how motivated you are.
Hey so I have a 2003 zr5 and I’ve been calling rough country and they’ve been saying their 6 inch lift won’t fit my truck so I’m wondering what’s different in your truck
Absolutely nothing they do not want to sell you the lift kit for a crew cab do the liability reasons that's the best I can come up with it will fit. Do like I did tell them it is an extended cab it's the exact same frame.
Zr5 was an exterior trim package. Roof rack bed rails step bars nicer rims and the front fenders always had the plastic flares. Zr5 packages my favorite
@@waltersteffensthezr2man431 Damn.....side note....Like pretty much all of us CC owners we are all lookin for the 5+ lift that will get a little bigger tires under us. And I found a new old stock superlift 6" lift on Amazon via a parts store out here in California....supposedly lol. We'll see, I pretty much only did it because Amazon guarantees their orders.....if it's bunk I get my money back and go for the RC 6" kit. But I do like the look of the superlift on the CC.....that's not to say your CC isn't one of the baddest CCs I've seen, it is......but Ranch Saying in writing it doesn't fit is a big hurdle to overcome, not to mention mechanics out here aren't going to like it either. I know that's why you made these videos to begin with, I've seen it on your truck, I've seen it with my own eyes, I definitely believe you......but it's still a $1000+ gamble...plus installation. And I can't install my own because I'm handicapped. Anyways, the superlift kit is scheduled to show up in the next couple days, I'll let you know how it goes.....if you want of course, if you're tired of talkin about it, I totally get that too lol.
If anybody could help me it would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2002 chevy s10 crew cab 4x4, I simply want to lift it without doing an axle swap. Does anyone know which suspension lift kit will fit this truck?
Rough country is the only thing out there they make a 2.5 and a 6 inch lift. Do not tell them you are lifting a crew cab!!! But trust me there kit fits your truck it is what inspired me to do these videos in the first place 😊
I did mine myself in my driveway 😂 forget paying out the nose for somebody else to do it they just don't want the liability I ran into the same thing my friend LOL
@@mikealarcon6013 not exactly sure which crossmember your referring to l got told some junk like that from rough country and I never had any issues at all 🤣 they send you instructions with the kit the hardest part is the cutouts you just need to take your time they give you templates. Also cutting back to cooling fins on the front diff is a little tricky you'll probably have to just keep test fitting it in total it took me about 18 hours to do myself.
@@edgar10k909 yes sir !! I gotta a valve sticking just happened today I want to cry hope its not a crank bearings. Guess it doesn't matter it's gonna cost LoL 😜
I got an oem one off of 98 Jimmy and had it painted for 300 bucks I didn't like the fact that water got in behind there and got all over the distributor plus the fact that there was no windshield washer fluid injectors so when off-roading you could not clean the windshield off
Takes about 16 to 20 hours to do by yourself just depends on how hard you want to hit it!! Just follow the instructions and take your time I did it in one weekend but I have to tell you I was extremely sore after I was done LOL 🤣
@@elgrifozepeda23 I don't know that's pretty heavy car as long as you keep it stock it should do okay the 4.3 is only have 190 hp most all S10 Crew cabs have 342 gears most all the sonomas have 373 gears which is what mine has you would definitely want the lower gears.
Okay thank you 🙏 ... would you recommend the crew cab to haul or should I look for a gmc seria....my dad got a s10 king cab stock ... I like how you did your truck looks grate....the 4 door lifted looks good
Pretty fair I think 33-in tires would be more practical but I have enough lift to support 35s easily. I say that as far as power distribution and gearing.
Rough country is the only one left that makes this kit you can't tell them you have a crew cab just say you have a extended cab. The whole reason I started the first video is because they said that it wouldn't fit the crew cab infact the won't sell it to you over the phone if you tell them it's a crew. 😉
@@colinlewellin7957 no modification just follow the instructions that come in the box take your time it's about a two-day job by yourself I'm talking probably like 8 hour days.
Justin hues no not yet I have a 2003 s10 and a 2003 gmc Sonoma both crewcab I would like to lift one But I’m nervous about buying the kit and finding out it won’t work. rough county has two 6” lifts so what one do I order and what modifications are required and rough country is no help at all
