This rig has my grandfather written all over it. If he were still around today, I bet he would love that rig (I love it). Kind of reminds me of the photos my mother has showed me of his old rig (back in the days of vacuum tubes). I might have to buy one of these if I ever get into 6m (I can easily see that happening).
2E0KIA Masonic Matt also easy to backpack or car camp with in the field. Then these sip the battery power so they are perfect for scout troops in the field for disaster preparedness drills. Also these are tough rigs for young men and you won't cry when they spill something on it. Try that with a 1,000 dollar portable set up.
Thank you for the kind comments. FYI, I do have a second IDENTICAL MFJ-9406 that I am thinking of parting with. Let me know if you are interested. I will always keep one. I too have a IC-703Plus which I love as well. I am working on a series of 3 videos comparing the FT817 to the IC703. Thanks and 73 Bob
6 is a great band, especially during the E-skip season (roughly April thru August). Good little rig, but it's hard to tell what exact freq you're on. Does the 'fine tune' also affect TX frequency (as it should)?
Very nice, I had no idea that the MFJ radio had such a good receiver. I think they're rather over priced at nearly $300.00 but I wouldn't mind finding a used one. The manual claims only 60 mA on RX, that will keep you on the air all weekend with a 7 ah gel cell. KG2LI
Very nice camera quality. I need to find one of these radios used so that I can have a 6 meter rig considering my non plus 6 IC 703 doesn't do 6. Good working! 73 - KC2TAU
I was considering one for the /m or for /p.. Look OK.. maybe not a lot of 'Bell's and Whistles'.. but seem to work fine ! What was the Antenna.. 4 or 5el though..? VE6CPP VE6Jee/p DN39or
very nice radio i go camping a lot in the wilds love to take one like yours with me . how far can you get . on 6 meters . i am thinking of geting a 6 meter or a 10 meter
@PortableQRP Hi Bob, Did you ever end up selling your other 9406? If not, are you still thinking about letting loose of it? Great video, btw. All the videos I'm seeing of the 94 series radios have got me thinking I need on of each! 73
the standard is below 10 MHz, you use LSB, and above 10 MHz, use USB.....since this is 50 mHz....USB is the norm, along with FM, CW, and some digital stuff, repeaters, etc above 51 MHz or so.....
Hello Bob! Very nice transceiver! But I need a schematic of MFJ-9406, but manual in MFJ page not have schematic. You have this and can send-me a copy of schematic by email?
I have one of these that I bought on Ebay. Best price new online is R&L. Good audio, nice receiver. I use mine /p with a roll up dipole and duct tape. The analog tuning is surprisingly good enough. Get close and zero beat with the fine tune. 10 watts works as well as 100 during openings. Watch DXmaps.com for mufes and cut loose. 73 W7WBB
