I am Japanese living in USA. Lost a job in pandemic but studied and pursued my dream of becoming a Certified Personal trainer at the age of 58.(just a few weeks ago) As your grand ma said I did not give up easily. Now follow your advise (from other video)I should start training people on line and hopefully help those who physically inactive and un healthy. Thank you.

"Hard work over talent". This is really inspiring. Thank you Erika!

I totally agree with you that talent is overrated. In the West when we speak about Wolfang Amadeus Mozart, we usually speak about his incredible talent. Nobody or almost nobody talks about the years of hard training his father imposed on him.

Genius and talent!

That's why I admire Beethoven more than Mozart; Michelangelo over Raphael, Edison over Steve Jobs. Diligence wins over talent.

Not to mention that both his father and older sister were both talented musicians in their own rights. So he was born into an accomplished musical family. Thus, environment also plays a role.

I loved the culture of removing shoes and treating everything with respect

I am in the US and this was a must in my parents household. Rarely did we or do they walk around with shoes

I'm from Wisconsin and growing up we always had to remove our shoes before we entered our house. Most of my siblings and I including my mom still do this
@henryhung4560
@henryhung4560 Год назад
I got scolded for telling termite inspector to remove shoes. I was given a weird look several times when I told handymen, contractors to remove shoes before entering my house. I have been to NYC, Chicago, LA, SF, Honolulu, etc, can’t imagine how people can just walk into their places with shoes stepping over those mysterious stains, human waste on the streets. Yet you have the audacity to say it’s gross you take off your shoes and walk barefoot inside.🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Especially about Japanese history, culture and way of life plus your personal family history and background which added so much depth, character and interest. Importantly you explain things in a way that is so pleasing to listen to. Thank you for sharing.

My Mom is Okinawan and grew up during WW2 so I turned up being frugal from her great examples. My siblings and I learned how to repair things around the house by ourselves so there's less dependency on paid services. I feel so lucky to have her as my mentor bc she is one of the smartest and most practical people I have ever encountered in my life. I am happily married in the States now and financially comfortable partly bc of the wisdom she instilled in me. I can totally relate to your suggestions but I guess it's also the Okinawan pride. Thanks for the videos you make as it has made investing my SS pension more fun.

Such an inspiring tube. One of these routines I already practice ( in a different way). I walk to the grocery store with my shopping cart from home weekly and put my groceries in my small cart before taking it to the cashier. Then I walk home with it and empty it. I generally bypass the center aisles except for needed items that I have on my list. Tip: shop the perimeter of the store ( produce and perishable items are there; processed food is in the center aisles)
