Girl I'm not gonna lie, my physical technique is more advanced as I have been dancing for 11 years, but your spotting and turnout is really impressive. The improvement you've made over 6 months is insane to me, I really hope you keep dancing because you've got some serious talent, picking up an art that quick. Girls in my class don't as professional as you. The posture, everything, is STUNNING for six months. NEVER GIVE UP!!!!! YOU GOT THIS!!!

I started at 19. I ate, drank and sleepy ballet. I stretched in the morning, went to class at 8am to 9:30 and went to my office job (I got through the junior college I attended) then went back to class or classes if they had more. Got scholarships and sought out ANY free dance classes be it modern, folk, even medieval and square dancing! Dance is dance and I loved it! 7 days a week and give myself Barre when there were no classes. I got accepted the The Boston Conservatory of Music. I joined a few local companies and eventually had a company made for me to star in. I was discouraged at the get-go but I told them all they can get their tickets at the will-call window. Never EVER give up when you know this is what you were born to do. I lived it.

Ah congrats that’s so exciting! Honestly even with my other friends that started dance later, that’s the same thing that we all tell each other, (that we wish we started earlier) but I promise you that with time the feeling goes away. And unfortunately it’s not just for dance, no matter what new challenge you try in life, your brain will always give you a hard time at first, but I promise you first hand that one day you will look back and be so so proud of yourself! You got this :)

I just turned 40 yesterday. I want to take dance classes to appreciate my body more. I’ve never been strong in my joints (ran track tore my acl & meniscus) and it took a lot of my confidence away. But dance is so beautiful and the women so strong and disciplined I think it’s a nice transition as I enter my midlife just as a warmup and body conditioning

I`m 14 and wanted to do ballet since I`m 4. My parents never had the money to send me to a ballet course. But now I REALLY want to start and feel so bad beacause I didn`t start younger. The problem is that I can`t even do the splits and am very inflexible. Also, I can`t find anyone offering beginner courses for teenagers.

@@dearballet DISCLAIMER* All of the advice has either come directly from my instructors (ballet, pilates, conditioning), the director of my ballet school or my own experience having performed in over 25 concerts. I am also not trying to undermine your absolute talent and love for this art. You are stunning and these are just some tips on how to keep improving, because even the greatest prima ballerina can never be perfect. At the clip of four months training, when you bring your foot to the front, your knee sort of collapsed in on itself. This is because your turnout was not holding your leg and hip enough, so in that movement, only your foot should move. When you don't have turnout, you can look uncomfortable and unprofessional, so if it means your leg has to be lower for the turnout, so be it. Don't engrave bad habits into your mind🌟 In a couple of your shorts I notice that you often try to hide in what I call "your box". Watch this video to understand better ru-vid.com7ShmH-vRelc , but if you don't feel comfortable clicking links ( not that I'm a creep, just I know some people don't like it) , all you have to do is use painters or masking tape to create a box shape that is about 1 cubic meter on the floor in your home. Now imagine that this extends up to above your head, like a Barbie doll box for humans. Expand to a pose that "breaks" your box, like a lengthened arabesque with arms in a fourth or fifth (arabesque or normal), or maybe a second on releve with extended neck and arms in fifth. Then close back in and slump your shoulders and stand in a non confident fifth position arms in first. You know you're expanding properly if your armpits, neck and sometimes thighs can breathe. This will make you look more confident and comfortable taking up space on stage or in class. 🩰 Okay and my last tip is on arms. To get the gist of this one I would really recommend this video, I showed it to my Grade 1's and they all ahd amazing arms! I find that people who didn't do classes as a child or don't have a professional teacher always have something going on with their arms and hands, so the arms and hands can often look very tense or floppy and their thumbs are poking out. When your arms are in first position, you want to have soft hands, with a slight bend in the fingers and thumbs hiding behind your palms like a shy little bunny. (that's the analogy I use for my pre primaries, sorry) And your arms should look soft, but if someone was to hit them or push down, they'd stay right in place (that's a fun exercise with your ballet friends is pushing each others firsts and seconds down.) Remember hen in first position (transitioning or a fixed position), they should be at the height of your belly button. And finally, try as hard as you can to hold that arm up and in position during barre exercises and turns. Even when the teacher is going around correcting arms, don't just put them up when she or he gets there, hold them until it gets to your turn. This will improve your endurance over time and you will be able to withstand tricky situations like the music cutting out onstage (I know from experience). Depends on your dance school, most will let you keep dancing, but some make you hold a position for as long as it takes for the music to come back so you never know. This rule also applies to any arabesques or anything, if the teacher is checking, hold it. 💗 That's all I'm going to comment for now because it's hard to remember a lot of corrections, but if you have any concerns or questions about my comment please feel free to ask if you need further explanation or guidance. Have a lovely day!💗💗💗💗

@dearballet
@dearballet 2 месяца назад
This message made me SO happy! I promise you it’s the best decision you could make! DANCE SCHEDULE At the beginner I would go to class 2x a week (90 min x 2 = 3h/week). Then I started going to extra classes, so I would go 4-5 times a week. (90 min 4.5 = 7h ish) Then in summer I did 5-6 times per week. These past few weeks I’ve been quite busy so I do 1-2x a week, but usually I do 2-3X / week! And there are times were there was a 2-3 weeks where I missed class! All this to say, my teachers recommends 2x a week, but sometimes life gets in the way and at least if you can go 1x/week or 2-3 time a month you will see improvement! I also sync my dance schedule to my menstrual cycles so sometimes I have so much energy and I’ll go 4-5x week, whereas when I’m on my period I’ll let myself rest and push harder the following week! SOOO, experiment for what works best for your body! Just the fact that you’re going to the studio is huge, so be proud of yourself 💗💗
