Most people are unaware that the origin of the narrow toe cap on shoes was being able to put your foot in the stirrup when riding (A horse). It has been almost a hundred years, horses are gone... and everything remains the same.
@tokenjay

Couldn’t they just have made the stirrup wider?
@sophielorber4571
@sophielorber4571 3 года назад
@@tokenjay You could have gotten stuck onthe stirrup, which is dangerous when you fall off. A toecap that gets continuously narrower always slides out.
@hellboy7424
@hellboy7424 3 года назад
@@tokenjay in some cultures it was like that, especially in the East (China). But as the partner of the other comment says, it was more dangerous in closed places like a forest where you could hook the stirrup to a branch. It's also a question of imposition and cultural triumph of Western fashions, which from the Renaissance to the end of the 19th century marked the trends of fashions. From horse riding footwear it became fashionable ... without any sense other than the aesthetic one and causing serious problems and diseases in the foot such as bunions and forcing an unnatural narrowing of the foot.

A warning for anyone that wants to try this. If you start this and get a couple weeks or a month in it may be hard to switch back if you decide it’s not for you. My mom and dad switched over to barefoot shoes and after 2 weeks they tried to wear there normal shoes because they couldn’t handle the foot pain anymore. But when they tried there old shoes it actually hurt them more. So if you do this for long enough switching back will get harder. We all ended up sticking with it and actually really like barefoot shoes. But just a heads up. This actually may be a good thing because it almost forces you to stick with it but it is something you should be aware of.

In 6 months Vivo's (and Merrill Vapor Gloves) cured my 20 year old knee injury that had never healed and was getting worse. I know I walk differently now because people don't hear me approach anymore. Went to barefoot shoes years ago and my feet still get tired sometimes but that seems like how it should be. Barefoot shoes are keeping me running at 60. Vivo's are way better quality than VGs but I still love them both

Ive had my vivos for a few years, but I'm definitelly not "barefoot only" kinda person. My problem with the "ideology" (I've seen people who are so much into it they'll call other people names for wearing non-barefoot shoes) is that although our feet are mean't to "feel" the ground and adapt to it, they didn't evolve walking on the surfaces most of us walk on today. Sure, dry soil can be quite hard, but it's noting compared to concrete or cobblestonest. I love wearing my barefoot shoes for walks in the nature, but I always think twice before taking them to the city, especially if I know I will be walking a lot (I'm European and I try to walk everywhere). If anyone wants to enlighten me on why I should wear minimalist shoes even on the unfriendly surfaces of modern cities, I'd be happy to listen (or read I suppose) :)

This would be my concern as well, Tereza, interested to hear people's thoughts. I imagine part of the answer is that unfriendly surfaces are just something we're supposed to find ways to deal with, which you normally don't have to in more cushioned shoes. I haven't taken the leap yet but I think it's the way to go. Can't say I'd be too thrilled about no more big strides though, don't wanna be a weird shuffler!

Because the magnate shoe companies who make billions of dollars off of you buying their footwear, don't want to change, and the don't want you to know. So they spend a lot of money (marketing - and other shadier things) to make sure you don't hear about alternatives. Their shoes are made of cheap materials, which wear out quickly, which means you need to replace them often, and spend more money on their stuff. (And the cycle continues...)

I read the book Born to Run and followed Barefoot Ted for years before buying a pair of his Luna Sandals. Years ago I ran in my Lunas and got injured. Wasn't until about two years ago I started wearing the sandals almost exclusively, outside of work. Then I lost my job about a year ago and was walking and biking only in the Luna Sandals. Just started running again. This time in my Luna Sandals. I was immediately able to run a good amount without that adjustment period you have with the average running shoes. It does take a good deal of time to get your body back to barefoot posture. Thanks for the review. You're not the first I've seen give them a great review. I'll get a pair if I ever need shoes again.

Great review. For the record, in case somebody is looking for additional experiences with Vivobarefoot shoes, I own 5 or 6 pairs of Vivos that I use for walking and running. I agree on almost all aspects mentioned in the video regarding these shoes apart from the toebox size, which is spacious, don't get me wrong, but I still think it can be slightly bigger (the shoes' big-toe alignment tapers slightly inwards when the optimal scenario would be a straight line); and durability, which for me hasn't been that great, yes, the upper part of the shoes held up nicely, but the soles worn off for me in less than 18 months, exposing the puncture-resistant mesh of the shoes and making them permeable to water. Your mileage may vary, but my experience could have been better regarding durability even though I alternate between my shoes. If I have to give an estimate on the soles' durability I'd say they last around 500-700 km.

I've been barefoot now for a year. I own 3 pairs of Vivobarefoot shoes...he are worth every penny. ( though I buy on Black Friday only) . I own the women's Fulham boot ( Chelsea boot) my only 'everyday '/ non- athletic boot) it's the only one I wear all winter. I own a Primus lite and jing jing ballet. When I first started to change my footwear over I saw a lot of videos where people would say they would never go back to wearing conventional shoes and I thought it was just too extreme. I have several really nice everyday wear shoes that I wear with certain outfits etc. I replaced all my athletic shoes first but had stopped wearing all of my conventional shoes ( originally went barefoot because I had foot injuries and wanted to heal my feet naturally) I recently put on some of my wider conventional shoes ( my go to favourites) and I absolutely cannot stand the stiff sole even though they are flat. So there it is, now I am one of those people saying with every fibre of my being...I will never go back to wearing ANY conventional shoes for ANY occasion.

I have had my eye on these for a while. I wear Altra Superiors for hiking, the Escalante for walking and working out. The wide toe box has ruined me for any other shoe. But the Altra brand has nothing in their women's line that are esthetically professional enough to wear to work. I was pleased to see that Vivobarefoot shoe does have a few styles that would look good enough to wear to work; I'm a stylist, and I gave up on fashion in favor of comfort years ago! My girlfriend had some chronic ankle tendon and shin splint issues for almost a year when we first started dating. I did some research and found that the highly cushioned shoes (Brooks ghosts) she was wearing all the time were actually doing more harm than good. After trying to explain for several weeks that this may be causing the issue, I convinced her to get a pair of xero shoes just to try, and after a month of wearing them her issues started to dissipate! Fast forward to more than a year later and she does not have these issues. I'm sure any minimalist shoe would have done the trick, but the prio is a really good price point and did the trick. I run in Altras mostly (zero drop), but definitely you want to try an even more minimalist shoe to reinforce good biomechanics. If my budget will allow, I would love to try these vivo barefoots and xero shoes. Cheers!

@@ogpigeon4431 I personally find my xero shoes more comfortable than my vivos however o have heard people say the opposite. I think it primarily comes down to your foot shape. Vivo have a great returns policy so you could always try them and see if you find them more comfortable or not?! 😀

Vivobarefoot toe box is NOT super wide. They are considered medium to wide by people who review barefoot shoes. I also say this as a woman who has to wear Vivobarefoot men's shoes because the women's shoes are too narrow (and I can't wear all of the men's styles because a number of the styles have too much volume for a woman's foot).

Best fix for people who take to long strides ( low cadence )... Buy a weight west! It feels like someone is gently pushing you down forcing you to naturally speed up cadence. ( Because the extra force on the feet from taking hard long strides will hurt when caring more weight then the body is used to. )

I hate shoes that rub against my ankles. I had one pair that I bled from but those were not zero shoes. I have seen that the shoes you have worn are some times not big enough so I will probably go else where for my first pair. I really like the idea and have a spine that curves to much and they wanted me to do exercises to fix this but I would not need these if I had shoes that were flat and my foot muscles worked like they were supposed to.

I use Vivo running shoes and one orange casual ones..sizing is exact, I usually use 42,5 size 275 .. in Vivo I prefer size 43 and it's perfect. So don't really gone size smaller,that was not correct advice ... Just go there and try for yourself.

I used to love wide toebox shoes but they just simply aren’t as fun or accessible as other shoes so I haven’t worn one in awhile, and so far I’m seeing no issue with my joints at all (I’m 18) objectively, speaking wide, toolbox shoes are directly better than any type of Nike, but somthing about having an air pocket is really damn cool.

I am not a runner (yet) but I’d like to transition to barefoot shoes in everyday life and at work. I make my living as a gardener/groundsman and do the occasional bit of landscaping too. I work year round in all weathers on all surfaces. I normally wear sturdy hiking boots. Is there a footwear option out there for people like me that will protect my feet from sharps at work and give me traction in muddy winter borders? Any help appreciated.

Hi. Thank you for this great review. I don't know if someone already asked it here, but the reason why your first pair was too big was because you followed their size calculation, available on vivo's website?

@@heymikehanna thank you for your answer. My doubt is if I follow the suggestion or not. I really want to try, but there's no physical store near me and they suggest me 2 numbers (in European sizes) upper than my normal and there's no UK size ".5" between. Although, their estimation seems to be really accurate with the real measurements of my feet. The size you use now is similar to your "normal" shoes size?

Hi! Thank you for great video! Please help me out. I used cushioned shoes all my life. Currently I run with Brooks Adrenaline 21. I have office job and for work I wear casual shoes like Red Tape's most of the day. Those are not very comfortable for 10 hours a day so I'm considering buying Vivos. Is it ok for me to combine very cusioned shoes with Vivos? What should be the adjustment time and how should it look like? Any other advice? I would be very grateful.

our feel change as we age. as we age, we lose the fat padding on the soles of our feet. I have been using sheep fleece insoles to provide naturally comfortable padding that is not overdone. old people (if you're lucky, you will be old someday!) need padding.

If you've never worn minimalist shoes before: I'd recommend that you get a piece of paper, stand on that piece of paper on a smooth flat surface, trace your larger foot (whichever one that is) and then measure the foot tracing. For me, these Vivos run true to size. Almost all of my shoes are a 42. I purchased a 42 in the Primus Lite II BIO and they fit perfectly.

I have four pairs of Vivos, Addis, Primus lite III, Geocourt knit in leather and Primus Asana. The only gripe I have is they look like clown feet on me. I have good arches and a high instep so have to wear the men's not women's last and in a size 42, bigger than my feet which are normally a 6.5/7 UK 38/39. I went to the London store to try on available styles as I knew fitting would be a challenge and it only took me 45mins to get fully sorted.👍 The staff mentioned Vivo were looking into some customization offering which would be great as I occasionally drag my toe. The freedom and stability I got in the gym when I put on the Lites was astoundingly good. I'm 50s, overweight and don't run but have worn unpadded Sketchers Biker Chicks always for 8 years until threadbare as they were the only comfy shoe before. Changing gently to less of a heel strike pattern introduced when I wanted to be like Dad when aged 6. I'm still aware of the muscles in my feet awakening so am keeping my walking volume low but loving the shoes.
