Hello, MossCharmly here and we're talking about our Huion drawing tablets. More specifically the Huion Kamvas Pro 24 4K tablets. We're using these tablets with an M1 macmini and an M1 Macbook Air.
We're eploring in greater depth the specifics of this tablet and the programs we use, like Clip Studio Paint, Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher and even Blender. We discuss the accesories that work well with our tablets and what we recommend. We even discuss a big con about the tablet....the resolution... and how it is a Mac issue. Well, we talk a lot about these tablets...
This video is NOT SPONSERED
We just want to help and inform other artists about our experiences with them. Happy creating!

This is by FAR the most well-done and helpful video review on this product. I have been looking at this pen display for 2 weeks and this is the video that convinced me to buy. You two have such a good energy together, I'm subscribing. And yes, the Tabmate is amazing. I buy backups in case I break one while on a job. It's vital to keeping my production speed up. Thanks again! And I'll be buying the Amazon arm and cable as well! Thanks a third time!

Hello Zack La Rez , Thank you very much. It made us really happy that you appreciated our video. We really do Love our Kamvas pro 24's . We can't thank you enough for subscribing and liking our energy. We would not recommend anything we don't believe in or actually think isn't good. We are both classical artists who had a hard time transitioning to Digital but this thing made it easier. It was so worth the investment. We hope you have a great time Making wonderful art with it. Oh, just one more thing. We have been trying out the 8bit Do zero 2 as a replacement for the Tabmate , just fyi. Thank you again and have a great day.

I’ve been roaming all throughout RU-vid the past days attempting to find relevant reviews for the Huion screen display tablets. I’ve had a number of tablets/displays over the past 8 years, including a 24” screen display from an old company named UGEE, an iPad Pro model from 2017, and my most recent which was a Wacom Intuos Pro Large. However, unfortunately technology gets old, and my iPad Pro doesn’t provide that screen experience to make up for the loss of it on the Wacom tablet. Although I do love my tablet, it just doesn’t do it all for me anymore! Looking at Wacom’s pricing for their screen displays made me gulp as I am a student and cannot nearly afford them, so was looking for an alternative, and Huion came up. Although I am looking at their Kamvas Pro 16 model in 2.5k resolution simply because a 24” screen was too large for me, this video has been superbly helpful to determine the quality of the screens from Huion, their performance, and more. Having the two of you describing your similar experiences really sold the quality and promise of these tablets, and I am no longer concerned about buying one. In fact, it has made me so eager to buy one that I am even considering purchasing one later tonight. 5-7 years ago screen tablets of this quality were only really seen from the one and only ‘industry leader’ Wacom, but I am so glad that there are other affordable and reasonably priced options out there, making me think Wacom has really been testing their limits with how they price their tablets/displays recently. Thank you so much for your brilliant review, I really hope the two of you continue to enjoy your screen displays to create the work you love!

Hello Axoloticus. We are happy to help. It is such a coincidence because the next video review we are working on is for the Huion 16 pro (2.5k). It was our idea to get one for a more mobile setup. And while using it we thought college courses are starting soon and this might be great for art students as well. If you bought the Huion 16 Pro it was a great choice. It is bright, color accurate and very responsive. The drivers are easy to install, and it comes with color calibrated options which we found to be very convenient. You can still create user settings to your liking if the calibration isn’t what you prefer. The included USB-C cable is the only cable we needed to connect to our MacBook Air m1. Using this cable the laptop can power the tablet without the need of the additional power adapter. It is a one cable solution which is a great feature. 👍 We hope this helps and have fun and don’t stop creating. Thank you so much and we’re so glad we helped you out. 😊 What you shared with us in your comment was wonderful to receive and greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for this review! Amazon has the 2.5K version on sale now for $809.00 CND. Before I pulled the trigger and bought one I wanted to see what other artists had to say about the build quality, the screen, the pen and other stuff like that. I watched another review video which was only 6.25 minutes long and the guy spent the first 2 plus minutes talking about his OLD tablet! Ultimately the only thing he said was that it was big and worth the money. I thought, " wow, thanks for the insight. " lol. You guys hit on just about all the points that will help me and others to decide whether or not the Huion 24 is right for us. Thank you very much. ♥

Thanks for this in depth review!! I've been thinking about getting this tablet, but this is the first review where I've heard that I won't be able to use it's 4k capabilities on my Mac. Because of this I'm thinking of getting a Wacom Cintiq 22 instead, since that would've been my 2nd option anyway.
@mosscharmly
@mosscharmly Год назад
Hello Dev alo. If you are using a Mac, any native 4K tablet you get will have to have its screen resolution scaled. You could get a HUION Kamvas 24 Plus QHD 2.5K for $899.00. The Huion Kamvas 24 Plus is native 2.5k and will not need resolution scaling on a Mac. Another alternative would be the HUION Kamvas 22 Plus and that is $549.00. It is a true alternative to the Wacom Cintiq 22. We aren not Huion pushers. We just haven’t been impressed with Wacom products for the exorbitant price they offer. This is just an opinion. The repair costs for a Wacom tablet could cost as much as the tablet itself. With the money you could save you could probably get a nice chair and an ergo arm. 👍 We hope this helps you out. 😊 If you want to get the Wacom get the Wacom. 👍

Very nice review! And it helped me to make up my mind about whether to get the 2.5 or 4k version. I want to primarily use it for photo editing in Capture One Pro and already was rather leaning towards getting the 2.5k version since it seems to be enough for a 24" screen. Now I'm certain...

I agree with other ppl, this has been one of the best reviews. I’ve been looking into a new display tablet. Xencelabs I like the way it looks, but it’s almost $2000. But Huion kamvas is growing on me. I too have a Mac M1 mini. And I wasn’t aware of the scaling issues. But what I’m using now is a Wacom’s cintiq 13hd I got around 2012 or later.
@mosscharmly
@mosscharmly Год назад
Hi Gerbster2000. Thank you very much. It means a lot that you think so highly of our review. We have had ours for almost 2 years now and these things are built really well. It was a big risk because we were saving for a Wacom Cintiq Pro 24. We saw some reviews on the RU-vid about the Huion 24 pro and there was a sale on Amazon. We had Amazon prime so we could return it if it was s#%t. We were happily surprised. Best investment we made on digital art tech yet. It works insanely well with the Mini M1. The scaling issue is just something that we thought people should know about but it really isn't a problem at all. Ventura makes getting the res dialed in perfect. Thanks again for liking the video. Have great day.

How did sanding the tip helped? Did you make the tip rounder or more pointee? Did you got more resistance when drawing on it ? Or was it more like glass? I feel like my pen on my huion is between glass and a paper like protector and I wish there was a little bit more resistance. Did the end result felt more like paper? Do you guys remember their number for the sandpaper. Thanks in advance.
@mosscharmly
@mosscharmly 2 года назад
Hi Not a Cylon. The plastic tips that it came with are very hard and shiny. We sanded them slightly just to get the sheen off from the molding process. Doing this gave them a little more tooth. They grabbed a little more on the etched glass in turn making it feel more like Velum paper or Bristol paper. The sand paper we used was 400 grit ultra fine, get 3m brand because its reusable. Oh, After the sandpaper we cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol. 👍 It was just an experiment because the tips felt like plastic tubing on glass…no good but sanding changed that right away. If you can’t get 400 grit 320 is good too. 👍 Hope we helped and it really won’t hurt to try it out. 😊

thanks for the great review! - may I ask how deep your tables are? My desk is 85cm deep and I am wondering whether the monitor arm's "reach" of 64cm will be enough for me to comfortably draw on the tablet?
@mosscharmly
@mosscharmly Год назад
Hi Mts.The desks we have are 60cm. Definitely wouldn't recommend using the Tablet at the arm's full extension. There would be way to much stress on the arm and definitely wobble/ jiggle when using the tablet. However we have seen setups with it installed on the side or front corner of a work table instead of the back of the table. Just an option. Hope this helps a little.

Hey! Great review y'all. I have one myself for about a year now, and I still enjoy using it. I'd like to know what one of you guy's brightness and contrast is, just so I can give myself a idea what I might prefer for my display settings.
@mosscharmly
@mosscharmly 2 года назад
Hello Len Engquist. Happy to help. Be forewarned that not all LED’s are created equal. Our user settings are…. 55 for brightness , 50 for contrast. User color profile 48 on Red, 44 on Green, 41 on Blue. We are using a TypeC input and NO HDR. We have found the screen to be too saturated out of the box. We recommend doing some color matching using a phone. Red, green, and blue specifically. You can do this by… Creating an image that is 1920 x 1080 ppi at 300. Separate the image into 3 equal parts, the first being red, then green in the middle and blue on the right. You can put this image on your phone and then full screen on your tablet. True Red triadic color palette has three colors each of which is separated by 120° in the RGB wheel. Thus, #E8282B (True Red) , #2BE828 (Lime Green) and #282BE8 (Palatinate Blue) We hope this helps😊 Matchy Matchy

I just got the 24, 2 weeks ago, and so far I really enjoy it. The font is really small in most programs is my one complaint. I also have it with multiple monitor on a windows based system and for some reason when I reboot it moves my display area to a different monitor, so my huion basically becomes a tablet, I always need to go in and change the display area to match up with the huion.

@@mosscharmly I do have it as the primary display, but I think, on that note, it is because when the computer turns on the second monitor(for windows) is the first one for the graphics card. I only have one HDMI port on my graphics card which is how I am connecting to my huion so cannot swap unless I get a different cable. I have display ports but my cables convert to DVI I do not have a straight through DP cable. I will get one and find out, but more than likely that is the issue.

@mosscharmly
@mosscharmly 4 месяца назад
Hi Simon_Squared. We had problems with the cursor doing weird things. We found out that the Huion has to be the primary monitor and in the driver, the work area should be set to Full Area. Recalibrate the pen and restart the computer. Make sure there aren't other pen display drivers installed and Re installing the drivers might help. Just brainstorming here though. Maybe this helps. We hope it does. Let us know how it goes.

Hello Nik B. We use a spray/mist bottle and we fill that up with half rubbing alcohol and half filtered water and we use that to spray our tablets and then wipe it off with a microfiber cloth. Hello Geoffrey Mégardon Yes. we can definitely talk about our chairs. We have an all black chair which we bought at Costco. And we have a white and black one which we bought on Amazon on a sale. Here is the long amazon description if you are interested: Hbada Office Chair, Ergonomic Desk Chair, Computer Mesh Chair with Lumbar Support and Flip-up Arms,White. It’s super light but super durable. The seat bed is really wide or over sized. I can sit cross legged with plenty of room. Super comfy. Would get an another. 👍 The black chair is from COSTCO and is a True Innovations Mesh Chair, black, Mesh seat, lumbar support. Little too heavy, has a squeaky joint somewhere. And the mesh seat or tush bed is not as noise dampening as expected. I blame the acoustic amplification on the ergonomics. And not comfy. In conclusion we wouldn’t buy it again. We hope this helps you out. 😊 PS: The arms are reclinable on both chairs.

Glad to see I stumbled upon this review as I am eyeing out this Huion tablet to replace a Wacom-competitor-I won't-name-here that has given me too many hardware issues to keep bothering with it. I see you have practically the same hardware and use the same programs as I do. The 4k Mac Mini M1 issue leaves me concerned - my Mac Mini M1 is maxed out at its 16gb of RAM, and Apple's specs state that this model supports up to two displays: one at 6k via Thunderbolt and the other at 4k via HDMI. My current setup is the aforementioned 2k tablet & a 1080p monitor, which runs fine. As per Apple's word there should be no issues to run 4k on the Huion yet you say you can't. Care to elaborate more on this? Thanks for the review.
@mosscharmly
@mosscharmly Год назад
Hello AlzamonTV. We’re sorry it was a mistake that we made. We should have said that we couldn’t run 2 displays with USB-C inputs. We have connected the Huion with USB-C and it’s resolution is set to 4k and we have simultaneously hooked up a LG 4k monitor through the HDMi. They are both able to be output to their native resolutions. In conclusion your setup from your description should work perfectly fine. One suggestion we have is that Huion came out with a new driver Driver_15.6.3.88 that seems a bit buggy but we are not running Ventura as our OS. We’ve been using Monterey and Driver_15.6.1.34 and everything works perfectly fine for us. We hope this helps you out.

Hey, thanks for the video. I’m just curious about comments on the IPad, what was the disconnect? Struggling to believe it’s like a crayon, in what way? I really enjoy mine so it’s just interesting your experience is different
@mosscharmly
@mosscharmly 2 года назад
Hello Hannro Venter. When we talked about a disconnect, it’s hard to describe. The iPad is super responsive and so is the Huion pro 24 . The difference is when we use Clip Studio on the computer we don’t have stabilization on for the brushes we use. We did the same on the iPad with Procreate’s brushes as well. It just feels like the iPad is drawing for us and the Huion/Mac isn’t . It must have something to do with how the iPad and the apple pencil work together. There is definitely a little auto correct going on or something. It makes it feel less responsive than we previously thought. Call it preference, but it is hard to ignore once you experience it. It's like eating a hamburger after going to the dentist and having Novocain. You know you are eating a hamburger but you don’t want to bite your lip so go slow and chew. It's a very numbed experience using the iPad now for us. Both are great and wonderful tools, don’t get us wrong , we just prefer The Huion/Mac experience now. 👍 Addressing the crayon like experience using the iPad pencil 1 and 2 (We have iPads with both) . Just to set the scene, we both come from a classical art background. We will always look at digital art as the next gen of art. We also relate our digital art experiences to our past classical art experiences. And in our experience the apple pencil is more like a conte pencil or a charcoal pencil than an actual pencil. It is in fact closer to an actual crayon. The weight of it takes some getting used to and it is very unbalanced .. this may seem negative but we still believe the iPad and pencil are great tools for artists. We still like them and we still use them too. They are great. 👍 We hope that we shed some light on our experience and opinion about the iPad & Apple Pencil. It may be a little different but nothing is wrong with being different. Have fun drawing and creating. We hope we helped you out.😊

@@mosscharmly Thanks for the comprehensive response. I think I know what you mean. There’s a greater precision with Huion I imagine with the added size. One thing that could close gap is 3rd party tips like the ones from reeyear. They’re a bit more pin point. Then on procreate adjust the streamline of your brush (under stabilisation) to none. For me the ability to rotate and manipulate the canvas in such a smooth fashion is a great advantage. But hey different strokes for different folks :)

Hello Ramenlover91 Dj. It is true the tablets were pretty saturated right out of the box. We have found that Not all displays are created equal and the two of ours are a perfect example of that. Here are our personal settings for the two different pen displays. One monitor settings are: 50 brightness and 50 contrast User color profile 41 on red, 38 on green, 38 on blue. We are using a TypeC input and NO HDR. The other monitor settings are: 55 for brightness , 50 for contrast. User color profile 50 on Red, 47 on Green, 45. on Blue. We are using a TypeC input and NO HDR. If theses settings aren't right for you we recommend doing some color matching using a phone. Red, green, and blue specifically. We made a video on color correcting your screen. It’s a really low tech way of doing things, borders on janky, but it could get you going in the right direction… maybe. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ORP7s1IavFU.html Hope this helps you out.

Hello IsolinoArt A Mac will output the native resolution of your screen. If you purchase a 1080p screen or a 2K screen the UI for those native resolutions will be very usable. The problem with a 4K screen on a Mac is that they technically do not output a usable UI scaling ratio. Your Huion is being output at its native resolution at 1080p. @mosscharmly Год назад
Hello Pac. We think it’s awesome that you’re looking into this and doing digital art. It’s new and can be intimidating but it’s not beyond you. The Huion Kamvas 24 4k is technically called a pen display. It needs a computer for it to work. For most pen display devices, you have to plug them into the computer. Essentially, they become a second screen for your computer or laptop. You can then load up Clip Studio Paint or your favorite drawing app and draw directly on to the pen display. You also don’t need a Mac specifically to make a pen display run. You can use other computers that have either Windows or Linux as their operating system. The iPad is an all in one solution. You don’t need a computer to draw on the iPad because the iPad is a computer in and of itself as well as a pen display. We hope this helps you out. We’re totally cool with your questions.

Hello Januz Art. It’s nice hearing from you again. It really is a hard decision to make because there are a lot of factors to think about. Maybe this will help. If you’re using a Mac you might be better off with a Kamvas 24 Plus. If you’re using Windows the 24 4k would be better only because Windows is capable of altering the UI to be fully usable in 4K. But that would be the only upside to purchasing it. What you get for your money with the Kamvas 24 Plus is a better value. Their color gamut is the same and the display color output is also the same as the Kamvas 24 4K. If you’re looking for a large display the 24 Plus might be a better option for price to performance. Thay have the same lcd panel just one is 2k and the other is 4k. Thay have the same Styles, Brightness , color and contrast.We believe you’re going to ultimately get the same performance from either. They are basically the same screen except one is 4k the other is 2k and one has a metal chassis (24 4K) and the other has a hard plastic chassis(24 plus). The Kamvas 24 Plus has a visa mount and will work on an arm. To be completely honest if anything happened to our Kamvas 24 4k we would buy the Kamvas 24 Plus. And wouldn’t regret it. It really does depend on what computer you are using. Just a quick recommendation: 16 gigs of ram for Mac And 32 gigs for Windows. Less ram for Windows is usable but won’t be as snappy. Hope this helps you out.

Hello Junisek. Yes. Go for the Lower resolution version, Huion 2.5k tablet. You will get the full 2.5k resolution with your Mac M1. With the Huion Kamvas 24 4k the Mac M1 doesn’t allow scaling of the Ui and or text. To make the native 4k usable you have to scale down the resolution. @mosscharmly
@mosscharmly Год назад
Hello Nik B. If it’s between the Kamvas 24 4k and the Kamvas 24 Plus than here it goes… The only real difference between the two is that if you were to actually set them side by side the pixels on the 24 plus and the 24 4k ( scaled to a QHD res) the pixels are little more obvious on the 24 Plus. It does not make it a less quality product. If our Huion 24 pro 4k breaks and we were to choose between buying another 4k or buying a Kamvas 24 Plus we would buy the 24 Plus. We hope this helps you make a better decision and wait for Cyber Monday or Black Friday. Sorry.. Pertaining to a 16inch at 4k or 24inch at 1440p Go with the 24inch at 2k because working on a 4k screen at 16 inches with a super cramped UI is not fun or efficient. Hello Intelligent Mind. You can absolutely use this tablet for note taking and making notes with images. It is also an exceptional drawing tablet. Your use case scenario is completely dependent on what desktop software you are using. We felt your question was very unique and wanted to see if it was possible. In the past we created note taking templates for our iPads that we used in Procreate. We opened the PSD version in Krita 5.1.0 and found that there was not a single issue with the stylus of the HUION, it was very precise with the pencil and pen we selected for our experiment. We found that we had to use a photo editing software to use this tablet to its fullest. On the note taking side of the equation Krita is very proficient and is a very capable digital art program. It can both note take and do digital art for free. Please understand if you have a note taking desktop software in mind your results may vary. We hope this helps you out. Doing this gave the pen a little more tooth. It made the pen grab a little more on the etched glass in turn making it feel more like Velum paper or Bristol paper. It was just an experiment because the tips felt like plastic rubbing on glass…no good but sanding changed that right away. If you can’t get 400 grit 320 is good too. @@mosscharmly Thanks. yea. I saw that they have the M2 but now that you mention the overheating. nevermind thats..I was also looking at the mac min, but laptop be best for me so when I'm on the go... I'm trying to build up my portfolio and get a job as 3d artist.. don't get me wrong I like my software engineer job but when I got into programming was because I wanted to be a game developer..but when when I do art it's whole different thing. motivated.i remember I got zbrush in 2006 didn't know much about it , left it alone. should have got into it. haha...but yea about huion I didn't have to reinstall the drivers yesterday hope it stays that way... might because I didnt shut off the huion. I usually shut it off if I'm not using it.. also my computer detects the huion as monitor 1 and my alienware monitors as 2 and 3. wierd might be because I have monitors plugged in on hdmi ports...thanks for the info. . God bless

@@angelanguiano4338 If you're looking for a laptop the 14 inch MacBook Pro m1 pro might be an option. If you have a MacBook Air you are never going to escape the dongle life. The 14 inch MacBook Pro m1 has all the necessary ports you could ever need. That would save you about a minimum of $200.00 in thunderbolt 4 hub/doc. Apple store MacBook Air M2: $1,699.00 in addition a Kensington SD5700T Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station (The docking Station makes its port selection and usability similar to what is onboard the Mac book pro 14). Final Price for both Mac Book Air M2 and Docking Station would be about $1,998.00 and that doesn’t include tax. Macbook Pro 14 inch M1 Pro at the: $1999.00 / $1,799.00 refurbished At Costco the Macbook Pro 14 inch M1 Pro is $1,599.99 until the 25th of September. Costco also gives you an additional 2nd year warranty, free technical support and a 90 day return policy and an online technical support all inclusive to the price. It’s a portable beast for coding and 3d modeling. You wouldn’t have that dongle spaghetti. If we didn’t purchase the M1 MacBook Air earlier we would purchase this from Costco right now. There is also a sale Labor Day sale at Best Buy and the Macbook Pro 14 inch M1 Pro for is on sale for $1,599.99. We recommend the Costco sale for the free 2 year warranty. We hope this helps you out.

What a nice review, and interesting to see how you peeps moved away away, or not using the Adobe tools. I am trying to move away, but Photoshop is holding me at Adobe so far haha :D. I am also thinking about moving from PC to a Mac mini M1 with 16gb. Can you say somehting about it as an illustrator yourself?

Hello yoRRnl. In the modern day of digital art any program is potentially a professional program. So don’t be held back or held down by something or someone that gets in the way of your artistic ventures. As long as you save your work in a psd format there is not a program that we have seen that will not read it. The only real issue is the familiarity of the program. Like we’ve gotten so used to CSP that using Krita can be a challenge until we familiarize ourselves with that. And that take us some time. Oh and Brushes sometimes can’t be transferred with ease to other programs, but strangely the different brushes don’t end up seeming so different after using them after a while. As an illustrator concerning the M1 Mac it is super surprisingly capable. We did not expect this little box to perform at such a high level and consume such little power. Going from a PC to the Mac OS is kind of a shock to the system when you’re used to a PC. Macs are a visually oriented OS so it’s kind of simplified or plug and play. The Mac mini can run Blender. As an illustrator it’s such an easier OS to navigate. The hardware has been unquestionably capable because we haven’t had a single issue with it. We’ve heard that their are problems with Photoshop and M1 Macs just to let you know. But Adobe will optimize for the M1 for sure.

@@mosscharmly Thank you for the quality reply. The reason that i stick to Photoshop so far are the photo edits / manipulations I do for clients. Also, after working for 20+ with the tool, i feel some sort of connected i guess haha. I am looking out to other programms as well. Maybe in the near future, now AI is taking over Photo editing anyway. Thank you for anwnsering the Apple M1 question. It sips so less energy. I keep an eye on a nice sale at Black Friday! Also keep an eye on the M2, wich has acces to more memory (24gb)

@@mosscharmly yeah, but so far Apple has noticed that there will be no new desktops coming this year. I made my choice and go for a new next gen PC build. So far, for 1700 euro i have created a beast of a PC that is also super silent and low in energy cost. It is what it is. :)

Does it need a screen protector`?
@mosscharmly

Hi BaragganGG. Surprisingly no it doesn't. The screens are textured glass and is not plastic. It is the big reason we chose these over other pen displays. We might be lucky but we really treat them with a lot of tlc. Nothing bad so far has scratched them. We hope we helped you out and Have a really Nice Day.

can you talk about your chairs?
@mosscharmly
@mosscharmly 2 года назад
Hello Bo Opfer. Yes. we can definitely talk about our chairs. Would get another. 😊

Hi, bro, excuse me, in my video there is a video of Huion Kamvas Pro 27, which is the new product of Huion sold in China, if you are interested, you can have a look, thank you!

The tip thing is real but I've noticed it less and less as time went on I try to just avoid pressing hard down on an angle though just because of the squeak. As said that plastic needs wearing in Edit* my app is preventing me from liking your video.. it must be due to the highly political nature of the content lmao 🤣
