I think Huion has been doing really well with their pen displays. I think they managed to find the sweet spot for serious amateurs to solid semi-pro digital artists and definitely finding a nice range for art students that need, but are priced out of Cintiq. I don't see them knocking Wacom off the top of the hill yet, but I'd love to see their efforts apply some downward pressure on the price of Cintiqs!

Teoh,...as is your standard with these reviews, this was PERFECTION! You are so thorough and you cover the things that artists are looking for! There are a few others out there that rank up there too when it comes to reviews, BUT I just LOVE the relaxed pace that you provide with yours. It's just so much more enjoyable and easier to follow with your reviews and channel. You don't try to force unnecessary video FX and crazy sound FX that too often do nothing but distract from the actual review. In other words,...you KNOW how to do this and its obvious that you are an old pro! It sounds like that if you were to pick this OR the XP Pen Pro 24, you would give a slight nod to the XP display. (Even with the lack of etched glass and the use of a screen protector, you still would lean toward the XP Pen.) I originally thought that seemed crazy BUT...if you still get the same line quality, but gain the use of a USBC port and better brightness, I can certainly understand your position. I DO have to ask you though,...what do you use these days as YOUR tool of choice when you need to work on a larger display than the tiny iPad Pro? Wacom Cintiq? XP Pen product? Huion product? Have you heard anything regarding the durability of XP Pen displays vs. Huion displays vs. Wacom displays? Just wanted to know your opinion regarding this. Thanks again for the review! Todd

I don't really have time to add special visuals, audio effects and transitions since I make too many videos. I would rather spend the time replying comments. My main digital tool is the iPad Pro 12.9. Mainly because I don't have much table space, and I don't need to use desktop software for drawing. If you need desktop software, getting a pen display is the more obvious choice. E.g. I shoot a lot of photos for my product reviews for my blog. Using desktop photo editing software allows me to work significantly faster compared to using iPad Pro to edit, upload, share or embed photos. My general advice is always to buy based on the software you're using. If you can complete a drawing or work completely on the iPad Pro, that's great. But if you have to transfer the work from iPad to computer to work on later, why not just work on the computer in the first place? As for durability unfortunately most of these are review units so I don't test them for long periods of time. To get an idea on durability, maybe you can check out the complaints (if any) on Amazon, Reddit and Twitter. The thing is XP-Pen and Huion has been making graphic tablets and displays for years. XP-Pen is 15 years old. Their products get better each year. Durability and build quality should be fine.

@@teohyc Hi Teoh, as always, another excellent review! Thank you for taking the time to do these. I actually always check your reviews before I buy a new or another monitor. My question is how does this compare to the Cintiq Pro line, in regards to drawing experience and performance? I actually like to to do my sketches and inking on my 12.9 Ipad Pro, but when I do my final color painting, I need to work at actual size which can be up to 11" x 17". I own a Cintiq 27HD which still performs well, but after drawing on the Ipad, the parallax and lag on my Cintiq can get annoying. I was considering upgrading to a Cintiq Pro 24, but then saw this review. If the Kamvas Pro 24 performs the same as the Cintiq Pro, I'd much rather save the extra money. Thanks in advance for your advice.
@teohyc

@@videomonkey5150 I've not used the Cintiq Pro 24 before so I can't say much. Their Cintiq Pro models should have laminated display and have no parallax. You can check Amazon and Reddit for user reviews. As for the Huion Kamvas Pro 24, it has good drawing performance. It's definitely value for money considering the lower price than Wacom.

I had a ton of tablets and pen displays in the past, and about 2 years ago I switched to Huion Kamvas Pro 24. I can't recommend it enough. It is very good. The only issue I have is that I got the older version with chargeable pens, and I am not sure if the non-chargeable will work on the display I currently have. Regardless, it is an awesome pen display, and when you compare its price to Wacom one, it is just insane! The price gap is massive, but the quality is remarkably similar. The only downside is that the screen tablet stand adjustment is predefined so you can't really fully adjust the angle the way you would like. However, it was never an issue for me, and I think it is not so big of a deal to begin with. Keep up the great work Teoh!

@@Chejov1214 My tablet is not as bright as my monitor, but since my face is literally in it 8+ hours per day, I don't think I need it to be any brighter to be honest. Bronhitis thanx for the quick reply ,.. yess thats totally true .. I have a cintiq companion 2 i7 ( the one with the i7 5xxx cpu ) its brightness is similar to cintiq 13hd which is around 215 , (previous cc2 with i7 47xx cpu has 156 of brightness ) .. now .. my cc2. I never use more than 50% of brightness. Cos father a day of work I would ben feeling like my eyes are burn out .. so absolutely i agree with you on that .. wacom in some of their products hasn;t provide huge levels of brightness on their devices either .. I was afraid that on huion 24. There were other things /issues in play not only brightness but contrast ( whites and black levels ) .. watching teoh vid. Looking the monitor straight up to front //. Seems all cool .. but. When he puts a white sheet of paper by a side .. white ‘s seems more dimmer like bit grey .. but I checked out with my cintiq companion and yeah they are not spectacular .. so. Go figure lol

Honestly this feels like the best review for this tablet ! Its so thorough and has all the important stuff, plus a very good representation of what this tablet can do ! Im planning on maybe buying this tablet in the future and this review was the most helpful i found! At least Im very sure I wont change my mind on this tablet, not even with the newer version as it has no buttons.... All Huion Kamvas pro versions have buttons, why not also the new version ? I know there may not be all that many people that actually use these buttons but i for one would find it pretty uncomfortable to stop drawing just to try and press 2 keys as that is just really annoying.... All in all this review just helped me to find out which tablet I really want, and I hope I can get it in the near future ! Thanks for making such a great review

I had a Kamvas Pro 22 before, the hardware itself is really really nice and I was totally satisfied with the experience, but the main problem of this brand is its software development, the driver is just not stable, it just doesn't have the WACOM like reliable experience, it would just stop functioning for no reason claiming that the device can't be detected, and it just happened too often to be trusted as a professional tool.

Because the initial activation force is a bit more than the Huion Kamvas 22 Plus I decided on the 22Plus thanks to your reviews! I like drawing quite light, and the previous Huion Kamvas model I bought(used) required harder than I am comfortable with activation force so I went back to my Cintiq 13HD. I'll see if the Kamvas 22 Plus will give me the same level of quality as my old cintiq 13hd or have at LEAST a close to the high quality of the outdated Cintiq. Which leads me to question if Huion, and XP-Pen are somehow getting their hands on old technology from Wacom to use on their newer models of tablets... I am only a hobbyist so that 13HD was a truly far too expensive purchase for the size. If the activation force isn't at least relatively close to my Cintiq 13HD then I'll return it and keep using the 13HD and buy the Cintiq 22 later on in life lmao. But I really love the look and design of the 22 Plus! It looks great and sleek. Something I can see myself using as long as that activation force is truly minimal!

I bought the Huion Kamvas pro 24 after using a Wacom for years and overall have been pretty happy with my purchase. The one complaint I have is Huion support. It's non-existent. Currently I'm experiencing an issue with adjusting the overall brightness. When I go to the menu it's grayed out and I can't change the value. Has anyone else experienced this problem? There doesn't seem to be any user groups or forums to post questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sometimes when you can't change the brightness, it could mean you have used a colour/picture mode that doesn't support changing brightness. In this case, maybe try changing the Eco mode, or the DCR (Dynamic Contrast Ratio). Check the user manual.

The obvious question is: this Kamvas Pro 24 or XP-Pen Artist Pro 24?
@teohyc
@teohyc 4 года назад
Drawing experience with both Huion and XP-Pen are pretty similar so you can't go wrong with either. For comparison purposes, main selling point for Huion is the matte glass surface. For XP-Pen, it's the significantly higher brightness of 298 vs 158 (from what I measured). XP Pen uses matte screen protector which will scratch eventually. Personally I'm not that fussy so I don't mind matte screen protector. I value the higher brightness more. XP-Pen's USB-C is useful if you have USB-C devices.

@@juliansjames Anyway, a 24" screen protector will be a pain to install. Really i don't care about screen surface, i'm pretty used to iPad Pro glassy surface. So, in case i purchase the the XP-Pen, i will pull off the screen protector when it became too scratched. Anyway, i will appreciate if you put the XP-Pen answer if there's any.
@juliansjames
@juliansjames 4 года назад
@@carles_carbonell Here's my questions and the responses from XP-PEN: 1. Might XP-PEN reconsider the decision to use textured plastic film and instead etch the glass as Huion has done with the Kamvas Pro 24? As far as I know, this is not a decision that can be made overnight. Furthermore, using a protective film you can peel it off when there are scratches on it after using it for one year or longer, but you can't do that with the etch Glass, right? What if you accidentally scratch the surface of the tablet, then the tablet will wear it for the rest of its life. I think it would be annoying. Maybe using a plastic film is the right decision. 2. Is it possible to purchase replacement textured plastic films? For now, the protective films for 24 Pro is not available now. but I think it will be on sale soon.
@patataeve
@patataeve 3 года назад
@@juliansjames Thank you! I had a smaller huion with that etch glass and it's not anti-scratch, on the contrary, it had a lot!!! And nothing to do to prevent it, I was very careful with it for the two years I had it. So I would prefer to change the creen protection per year, even if it's a pain!

My only one concern is the lifespan of the battery-free pen. I own a older Huion display tablet, and while the tablet itself is fine, my rechargeable pen (bought 2-3 years ago) had stop functioning after about 10 months or so. There's no zoom. The camera was at the same distance from the display. 1080P pixels will look larger, hence the icons are larger. What about the big gap between the pen nip and the main display, yesterday I’ve got my unit kamvas pro 24 and I had two big issues which the technical team at Huion said it’s fine ,1- a very noticeable and annoying gap between the nip and the display and it’s far a way from ipad pro technology or my iPad mini which almost 0 space between . 2- a black hue at the left and right edges of the screen very noticeable like a lens vignetting when you start with a white background to draw. and now after I paid 1334 usd tax and shipping to Istanbul, they told me if you’re not satisfied with our product I should ship it back to them and loosing tax + shipping and shipping back to them + 8% restocking fee....very bad marketing so when the say full laminated screen they didn’t mention the 4mm gap or more.also the screen viewing angles not perfect and the 1440 p resolution is nice but still not enough when you are very close to it I literally can see the icon pixels and i am using display port 1.4 and no 10 bit colors depth and you could see some chromatic effect around the text same as it’s 422 not rgb color space.,,,,anyway that was my experience with kamvas pro 24 please try before you buy if those issues you don’t like. the keys on the screen very cheap and sensitive you will accidentally hit them when moving your hand so I switched them off especially the touch ones.

You can adjust in display settings, on the Scale and Layout section. But usually the default already recommending the proper scaling when connecting new display according to display tablet size. But you can tweak it if it still doesn't meet your preference.

Mine's a review unit so I don't know how long it actually took to ship and deliver. If you're in USA maybe Amazon may offer better shipping time. Not sure. amzn.to/3i5qKvm That table in the video is just 80 x 50cm. When the monitor is flat, there's just enough space for the keyboard in front but nothing else. So I probably recommend a table that's at least 60cm or more (front to back). Typical computer tables should be around 70-80cm which are good.

Teoh!! man thanx a lot for this review I was waiting it with lot of expectations ,.. I read your answer down there about how it compares to the xp-pen24 but .. still is there anything more you can say about the 2 pen experience? or they are practically identical how the feel when drawing ? and how they compares to wacom pro pen 2 ? is wacom still the king ? or its different but not necessary the best anymore ? for instance .. a friend bought the huion pro 20 she has the old intuos 3 grey . and she likes the huion saying it felt very much like those intuos 3 .. (because of covid19 I could't go and tested it .. :/ ) thanks again and best wishes ps: seems huion is less brighter tan xp-pen .. I put your 2 reviews in different windows and its noticeable

Huion and XP Pen has similar drawing performance. Maybe Wacom has slightly better initial activation force making it easier to work at really low pressure. But I cannot say for sure since it has been a long time I used a Wacom product. Personally I will get XP Pen for the brighter display as I don’t mind the matte screen protector. Some people prefer the matte glass.

I've had my Kamvas Pro 24 for a little over a year now and when I turned it on this morning it stopped working. The display is completely white and un-responsive. I tried rebooting, disconnecting and reconnecting everything and connecting through the Huion Tablet Properties app. The app says the tablet is connected and I'm using the most current drivers. When I first turn on the monitor the Huion logo splash screen displays briefly and then pops off to a white screen. Any ideas? The forums do not mention this problem and I haven't heard from support.
@teohyc

I'm not sure what's wrong. If the driver says it's connected, there's probably nothing wrong with the USB transfer. So it's could either be the cable or the display hardware problem (let's hope it's not that). If possible, test with another cable first.

Teoh Yi Chie you’d be surprised, my old senior art director at ubisoft just recently upgraded to a big Wacom from a older 22hd and we were doing super high level key art for games. The resolution would be better higher then 1080 of coarse. But honestly I just finished preordering the 22 plus. The thing that’s more important to me is the color gamut and contrast and right now the 22 plus is the best 22 display with the qd screen etc. I was going to go for the 24 but just decided between desk space and the qd display specs I decided a bit of resolution was worth the sacrifice. Plus when working we use the Wacom directly in front of our main monitor with a live window on the main for double checking the whole image.

@teohyc
@teohyc 4 года назад
Kamvas 22 is cheaper because it's just a 1080P display. If it's going to be your main display, getting a large 22 inch may not be a bad idea. But if it's your secondary display, you can go with the 16-inch which also runs 1080P but it's smaller so things will look sharper and less pixelated, and it's also way cheaper. Kamvas Pro 24 - US $899 Kamvas Pro 22 (2019) - $799 Kamvas 22 (2020) - $399 Kamvas 22 Plus (2020) - $499 Kamvas Pro 20 (2019) - $699 Kamvas Pro 16 - $469 Kamvas 16 - $379 Kamvas Pro 13 - $399 Kamvas 13 - $239 Kamvas Pro 12 - $349 I will review the Kamvas 22 Plus soon.

Really depends on what you value. The extra resolution is very useful but the price difference is quite significant.
