We should take the Sensible option of building 2-4 small 6000 Ton SSNs at first under P - 77( let's consider). Then We should scale up that Tried & Tested Design to 13000+ Ton Configuration ( like Yasen-M class SSNs & Virginia class SSNs), just like how We are transitioning from 6000 Ton Arihant class SSBNs to larger & much more capable 13000+ Tons S5 class SSBNs. Arihant class subs were made with heavy Russian assistance and lot of hand holding, not independently. That’s why we are still struggling with Arihant class subs, especially their reactors. I do not think that we 100% know how of miniaturising nuclear reactor which can then be used in ships/subs. In fact, our nuclear reactors used for electricity production are also copies + modifications/upgradations of CANDU reactors (pressurised heavy water reactors) received from Canada in 50s. Indo-US Nuclear deal (and subsequent nuclear deals with Russia, France etc) was done with an objective of allowing inflow of nuclear reactors and related technology of newer generations because we were stuck with older generation technologies.

I was waiting for this video from AD. Yes, there is a lot of speculative gossip in other defense related channels, the only ones I trust are AD & Defense Decode. IMHO, we should get at least some SSN from France in the interest of speedy acquisition to fill a gap & simultaneously start design & subsequent construction of our own SSN programme. Optimg for only domestic production will take a lot of time & we really cannot afford not to have some SSN's in the meantime. Things are surely moving towards a global conflict & we must be equipped for that.

France's offer is very clear.. Barracuda class submarine design..without nuclear reactors, no khow how nor design nor sharing of technology as far as nuclear reactors are concerned... France will not sell its low enriched uranium nuclear reactors to india. So, in case India accept the offer it will have to design a nuclear reactor which will fit in Barracuda class and obviously this would be high enriched uranium nuclear reactor.

We need more than 6 SSN. 2 Each for each carrier group, so since we have 3 carriers so its 6, further another 6 for each naval command and to move in deep ocean, I mean no point to have Nuclear attack submarine but sit in our own maritime zonek, if then just best take diesel submarine.

The strength of the nation is its technology class of weaponry. India should take a two-pronged strategy of building 12 SSN N-Submarines and order 12 from France. The orders should be spread over 15 years with technology upgraded for batch of every three submarines. The very fact that France, UK already have these submarines and France offering us shows their technological capability. India is too dependent on technology transfer from many nations. It's time we build out independent technological capabilities and India has a long-long way to go to be the best in the world.

Provided it's true (personally I am a little skeptical), then even if it's subpar, it'd be better to acquire it first than leaving a void, and follow up with a fleet of much advanced indigenous SSNs. In the meantime we can also plan new SSK designs for the navy, which should have quite the high export potential in Asia Pacific countries.

Baraccuda is just 4500 tons. Australia didn't go for it for various reasons, instead they chose the American Virginia class subs. We are also building 13k ton. Class of ballistic subs which is a follow on class of Arihant and S4 class subs. We must build bigger nuclear attack subs.
