For a unit that had only recently arrived to the "Ostfront" it is astounding that the 6th Panzer Division performed so well. This was a superb presentation about how the Wehrmacht Panzers still had the tactical flexibility to outfight the Soviets even when outnumbered. It also highlights the beginning of the Soviet Armies' evolvement in perfecting mobile warfare. I am very impressed by the knowledge and quality of the guests we continue to enjoy. Congratulations to WW2TV as well for attaining the 20K subscriber mark. Well done!

They were ‘veterans’. They had been mauled during Barbarossa and sent to rebuild in France - which was standard for PZ divs, up to Overlord.

Prit Buttar presents an informative and interesting talk on the German attempt to relieve Stalingrad. The account read by Prit of the German in one of the armored columns is riveting. Keep up the great work Prit and Paul.

another outstanding show. seriously, ww2tv's shows keep building upon each other and each one is better than the prior one. Paul has an uncanny knack for procuring guests who are passionate, knowledgeable and interesting. I really enjoyed Prit's presentation: it's extremely thorough and captivating. the historical narrative, which is mentioned in a few other comments, read by Prit is astonishing. Wow! Another excellent presentation in this series on armored. It was particularly interesting when adding details about the individuals involved and where the strategy was flawed i.e., 17th Pz and their late arrival. I must admit I have a very limited knowledge of the finer points of the Eastern front which this helps to fill in. Thanks for another great program by a very knowledgeable author. Keep up the great work!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this presentation by Pritt. Learned a lot. So much is not known about the Eastern Front in minute detail. So really the more shows you can do on this front, the better. Pritt Butar should be a poet imho. He really has a wonderful narration voice. @ 44:02 the fog of war was summed up in that amazing passage he recited. Makes you wonder why the Russians didn't know it was a Panzer or indeed Germans. Could it have been Russians or maybe a different linguistic group who didn't understand Russian and confused the Germans muffled pigeon Russian as the real thing?? Who knows.

I think Winter Storm failed primarily because the 6th Army made no attempt, not even a faint attempt to probe Soviet defences south of Stalingrad (à la Demiansk), while the relief force pincers were approaching from the south. This decision alone was sufficient to seal 6th Army's fate.

Fantastic stuff Paul ,absolutely great have looked at the Eastern front quite a lot, and one of the contributing factors as to why the Germans ultimately lost is due to the lines of communication and Russia's vast expanse in distance being to great i.e. there logistics and the movement of supplies in summer is one thing ,but in winter is a different beast all together . Plus with Goring saying yes.. we can supply the Army with what ever it needs, No it could not ,and thus some sources say the Germans were finished in 42/43 as far as supplies were concerned.

I don't know if anyone in the comments section has already mentioned it, but there is another interesting book by one of the participants (Horst Scheibert). Unfortunately, I only know the German title (Bis Stalingrad 48 Kilometer), but someone told me that there is also an English version. The book draws heavily on the diaries of the 11th Panzer Regiment and explains the division's actions between December 3th and 24th, with a focus on Kampfgruppe Hünersdorff.

Wow ! The utter lunacy of driving panzers amidst the bogs and walds in the dead dark of night while running out of fuel. And the Soviet soldiers couldn't even light a match to see something, after all there might be Germans nearby . . . For the Panzers, charging headlong into Canadian lines around Caen in broad daylight in 1944 must have been playtime by comparison

If you build a Steam Locomotive to burn low grade coal you need a bigger firebox. Since fireboxes are so big on Steam locomotives this usually involves another axle on the locomotive design or having a smaller boiler. These are not trivial changes and can not be accommodated easily.

Excellent presentation. I have read his three books on fighting in the Ukraine and found them excellent. He has many pages on the battle at Verkne Kumsky and little Saturn. Two questions I would have asked are what books is he currently working on and when will they be ready. And could have the Soviets reduced the troops surrounding the 6th Army by the start of January for the attack toward Rostov or would it be too late to make a difference.

If Paulus , was able to disobey Hitler's orders and surrender to the soviets knowing that they will put him to sing like a bird against Germany , why wouldn't he do the same if he knew that they had a good chance to reach the 6th panzer division and the others to get him out of Stalingrad, is also interesting that the soviets knew when the 6th Panzer D would get there

The only way the Battle of Stalingrad may have changed was if AH had transferred the 17th Armee to the Northern Flank instead of the 3rd Rumanian Armee. They could have even taken a division or two to help fight in the city from the 17th. Otherwise the mission was a failure as soon as AH gave directive 45.

The unexpected Allied invasion of North Africa was a total surprise to the Axis and distracted the Germans from Stalingrad and the expected Red Army Attack, as a consequence of Operatiin Torch the Germans sent !0th Panzer Division and Herman Goering Panzer Division to Tunisia as well as 3 Infantry Divisions, Vichy France (unoccupied) was invaded and occupied by the SS Panzer Corps (which had been withdrawn from Eastern Front to be reconstituted as Panzer Divisions) ; 1 SS Adolph Hitler Liebstandarte, 2nd SS Das Reich and 3rd SS Totenkoph , if the Allies had not invaded Nortyh Africa all of these units could have been sent east and we have seen what a single Pz Div (6th)) achieved.

Wow. They're so few comments on this compared to the Eastern German Russian campaign videos which I normally watch on TIK's channel. I know this can't reach either of the hosts of this segment but maybe somebody else has some thoughts about it. It just occurred to me that it was a little bit strange that Hitler didn't relieve Paulus of his command. I'm wondering that if somebody else had been in charge of sixth army do you think they had a shot at success and could have taken the city. I'm thinking of guys like Guderian or Manstein? There had to have been a better way of attacking Stalingrad, a way in which more of the forces were available to punch into the city and possibly capture it in the earlier days of the campaign.

Yes, I feel the same way about commentary here, but I like Prit Buttar more than TIK. I think Prit is more like scholar or maybe he is. TIK uses too many assumptions. But he proceeds with conclusions anyway based on those assumptions. Scholars don't do that. Not very wise & the result tend to be biased. He always against common opinions or conclusions of historians & scholars - but with assumptions. The only WWII / history channel that I don't like. But yes, he does a great amount of work & has been drawing people to his channel.
