6 Rat Water Bottle Hacks 

I loved all of these tips (and will use them) except the warm water. From the CDC website: "In all situations, drink or cook only with water that comes out of the tap cold. Water that comes out of the tap warm or hot can contain much higher levels of lead. Boiling this water will NOT reduce the amount of lead in your water." For this I always use cold for all my pets (and fish tanks when I had fish). You could totally let it sit until it's room temperature though!

Small tip for sliding water bottle, those clips that keep the cage to the bottom part are great for setting the nozzle on,all u have to do is bring it down a bit

Another tip I was given from a breeder is always have 1 or 2 water bottles on standby just in case your regular bottle breaks or starts leaking. This really came in handy when I went away for a weekend to a con. My mom said she would check in on them but didn't really till I asked her about it the day I was coming home. Good thing I put an extra bottle and food bowl in the cage before I left.

i justed wanted to say that i love your channel. My rats would thank you for helping inform their owner what they really needed. When I first got them I was keeping them in a 75 gallon long tank. My parents wanted me to keep them in a 20 gallon. Now they love their critter nation, native earth, cuddly fleece, tons of hammock, toys, and free roam time everyday. Thank you for the help! Another good way to keep the water bottle connected is using a large hair tie. You can wrap it tight by looping it around twice. Then it won't slide back and forth.

I use the glass living world eco+ water bottle for my rat and i LOVE IT even though its glass its not hard to get a suction my rat echo never trys to chew it its flat on the side that leans against the cage and it has two holders one spring one for the top and a metal piece to hold it up if you want a glass bottle then I would TOTALLY recommend the living world glass bottle (the one with the plastic carrot that comes with)

In regards to your pipecleaner solutions to water bottles. I use hair ties! Just loop them around a single bar on the cage, and feed the looped tie through the bar and insert your bottle!

The brick water station is such a simple brilliant idea, especially considering I just paid $16.50 locally for a lava ledge..

Very informative video, I had a lot of questions about water bottles and you answered most of them! I still have one more question though: how do I properly sanitize a water bottle? I have an unused water bottle that was in a box in the basement for a while and I want to make sure it is clean and safe enough for my rats to use. Should I boil it? It is made out of plastic mostly.

Thank you so much for the hack because I have a kaytee water bottle and I have a bin cage for my hamster so I could just use my old plastic water bottle 🤙💕

My advise: check if your bottle works by tapping the small ball at least every time you refill and preferbly every day. Bottles do break from time to time and you don't want your rats to get stuck without water. Especially not if you are away or if it is 30 degree C outside. This can be verry dangerous. Having 2 bottles can also be a good idea especially if you have more then 2 rats

help help my rattie has a blotted ear, she is a dumbo and her ear seems to be filled with something like a big balloon!. Last week she had a surgery on her tail, could it be related? I've already watched the whole rattiepedia and there is no mention of this condition. Her sister is doing fine, but the vet told me to keep them apart for a week until my dumbo heals the tail. QwQ i have the opposite problem. Not enough water comes out. I used a glass one for a bit where the nozzle was also glass and they just had to lick it and surface tension kept the water in but then the nozzle shattered.

Any advice for a novice rat owner whose rats refuse to drink out of a water bottle? I've tried putting applesauce on the nozzle and they've only licked around it. I have a water dish under the bottle to hopefully encourage them to use it to no avail 😩 I've had them for about 3 weeks. Are some rats just bottle haters?? And I've checked to make sure the ball in the nozzle isn't too heavy for them and it seems fine!

I was doing some research for some potential ratties I might adopt and I read somewhere that adding a drop of vanilla extract to a full water bottle helps to reduce their urine odour while not affecting the taste of the water for them. Do you happen to have any insight to this?

my baby rats' bottles only dispense water when I push on it with my finger, but not when the rats try to drink. Is it because they're not strong enough to push the small pebble ?

So, I have a slight problem, my rats are not used to drinking out of a bottle, as their old owner said they did not drink from it at all so they drink from a bowl, and don't know how to use the bottle thing, anyone have any suggestions?

What are your thoughts on water bowls? My rats have two water bottles, but I find that they really love to use their water bowl and may even prefer it to the bottles. Especially to dip their hands in it, and wash their faces. Obviously it's just more work to maintain since the water can get dirty so easily that I change it really frequently.
