Hey thanks for the amazing video but I don't know when to touch them I'm so confused because I have saw other people touching there rats but I need some help to understand why they are touching them or are we supposed to touch them? If anyone can replay it will be a big help! Thanks.

This video is all wrong. 9 inches is not big enough. 12 is the absolute smallest for babies and small females. 14 inshes for small males and females. And 16 inches is recommended. This is a bad bad video.
The first thing you do for fearful animals of any kind is get them on a round-up pesticide free diet! This chemical is a chelator! It binds all the minerals in foods that help a brain be calm! Round-up also destroys the gut brain mircobiome. Bad bacteria in the gut preceeds all psychological problems! The normal flora in the gut produces 90% of the neurotransmitters for the brain! As we consume chemicals that destroy the bacteria in the gut, more and more bacteria die! The bacteria that produce oxytocin are extinct in most people. Oxytocin is a hormone that makes you feel loved. The world is so high strung now because we consume many medications, food preservatives, chlorine, flourine, bromine and many others that destroy the gut bacteria!
You may find it easier to use a hairdryer and a clamp to heat to squish one of the edges to be a bit smaller (instead of cutting it). I made an Instructable with more detailed instructions for anyone interested.
4 out of our five new babes are very skittish but we need to give them meds every day for 8 days (fortunately only 2 more days now) and i rhink that makes it waaaay worse, even our brave guy hates it, im really nervous theyll associate us with that negative emotion...
I got two baby girls about two weeks ago, right now they're in a small cage due to finances... but new cage is on it's way! excited they'll have so much more room and toys ^_^
Thanks, still relevant today! Bought the large cement mixing bin at lowes, same size and mold but different label. Used utility knife + a lighter like you showed, and it worked MUCH easier than what I had been trying.

I feel like my current boy rat (he hasn’t been alone for even a week yet my other rat just died and I haven’t had the ability to get new rat/s) smells like corn nuts but not salty like take the smell of the original corn nuts and remove the salt sent and he smells like that
Question, you said you allow him to walk away but in the first half of the video it seemed like he was trying so much to get away but you were firm in keeping him on your lap. Should we do that after awhile?

I had a single rat for about a month I was trying to introduce them and my older (I’m guess because he is larger) the one I’ve had for longer started fighting and blood was drawn in two places I was so scared I didn’t realize tell the fighting stopped I got two that I thought looked really bad but it’s not as large as the one you showed so I feel much better about it thank you
Thank you for the help! Another good way to keep the water bottle connected is using a large hair tie. You can wrap it tight by looping it around twice. Then it won't slide back and forth.
