Good callout on the hybrid cable issue. They seem to have a "fix" by removing the compartment below a strip of cable so water doesn't collect. For people driving in winter climates definitely do a underbody wash from time to time to clean out the salt and slush. Keep it in the garage too with the added bonus of safety, thieves like stealing the RAV4.
yes they fixed cable in 2022, of course Toyota way - in most cost effective manner - they removed half of connector plastic, so now water will go out and , this could help.
I’ve been driving Toyota’s for 40+ years. In November (2021) my wife’s 18 year old Camry needed to be replaced. We live in a very mountainous area of north central WA state. We get 5-6 feet of snow every winter, so my wife had to park her Camry and drive my Rav 4WD Limited to commute to work. Then I’d drive our 11 Ford Ranger XLT super cab 4X4. My wife is from MT and both of her brothers and sister in laws drive Outback’s. They get about 300K miles from their Subie’s. So for her 50th birthday I bought her an Outback. She chose the Cinnamon Brown Pearl (it’s too dark for my tastes, but that’s what she wanted). It has the Warm Ivory interior. Every 6 years one of my brother and sister-in-law buys a new Outback bc after 6 years, she’s hitting the 300K mile mark. In 2020 she was driving her 2014 Outback with almost 300K miles when she hit a deer. All the airbags deployed and it totaled her car. When the insurance company sent them a check, they had to come up with another $4K to buy another new Outback. They hold their resale value very well. Other than normal maintenance, they never have problems with their Outback’s. My other brother and sister-in-law have almost 350K miles on their old Outback. They were here last fall and Skip fell in love with my wife’s Outback. They have a new one in order now. Last December (2022), it was time to replace my old Rav. I looked at the new Venza and the Rav Limited. I called my insurance company to ask how much our premiums would cost if we bought the Venza Limited. It was an extra $1K per year. I almost fell over. Then I asked about the Rav and that was an increase of $700 per year. (I was NOT impressed with the new Rav at all. It had a lot of road noise, the fit and finish wasn’t good, the seats were uncomfortable. Granted my old Rav was, well, old, but it was a LOT more comfortable and was quiet). I then asked my insurance agent about the Forester Touring (the Touring is equivalent to the Limited or Platinum in the Toyota). My insurance actually Dropped by almost $300 a year with the Forester. I asked my agent why it was cheaper and she said that it’s bc Subaru is so much safer and accident avoidance is great. She also told me that the Subaru Outback and Forester got the highest IIHS Safety PLUS award, which is higher than Volvo and higher than Toyota. Again, I’ve been driving Toyota’s for 40+ years and I Love them. But at the end of the day, I enjoy our Subaru’s more. Beware of the 2017 Outback. Even Consumer Reports says that year model is a POS. The 2019 and newer Outback and Forester are super reliable. They’re as reliable as a Toyota. Enjoy your day and stay in good health, Doc

One difference between the gas and hybrid versions not mentioned is their ability in the snow. I live in CT on a mountain and have test driven both trying to climb it in the snow (3 inches on the road climbing 650 feet). With the gas AWD system no wheel slip, the car with snow tires competently climbs the mountain. The hybrid, without the rear transaxle and just a battery motor allows the front wheels to slip substantially before the rear wheels give any assistance at all to get up the mountain. It still can get up the mountain with great difficulty, but not with the confidence of the true AWD system available with the gas only option. This is only useful for those who live in the mountains with snow (like me).
@@goodguy1651 if you live on a mountain, yes as far as I am concerned. I have a grade of 7 to 11 percent for that 650 feet. I don’t want problems. I’m used to have FWD when I moved here 13 years ago. Let’s just say I had to walk home a few times before realizing that driving in the snow with snow tires on a FWD car was a very bad idea
@@zippyzipster46 Yes, you are fortunate. I can tell you moving to CT it was hard at first with FWD and snow tires. I had to wait for a plow truck to come and plow the road up the mountain before I could go home. An hour or two many times. Or walk the two miles in the snow up the mountain home. Trust me. It was not pleasant.
Got an SE trim for my wife in april 2022. She loves it, great in winter snow of PNW. Good tech, fast engine (compared to her old car), good interior and space. So far no problems mentioned above

I have a 2015 Rav4. My biggest reason I will buy a Sportage hybrid or CR-V hybrid is because off. 1# HOLY COW! How has Toyota not still fixed the awful NVH of this vehicle? For a $35k vehicle, how does it still sound like a $20k vehicle? No excuse for them to cheap out on these things. The amount of wind and road noise is unacceptable for a vehicle of this price. Even at 45mph NVH is distracting. 2# Remote start kills the car when you open the door. I don't like the extra wear and tear on the car.
The number one complaint from riders are the seats, they are not comfortable at all. No door panel window/lock lighting at night same as overhead console. The panels especially the roof sound like tin when it rains. Those are my main complaints of my 2021 Hybrid . I blacked out the chrome window trim above all the doors, looks so much nicer without the chrome especially since I have so much black out on my Rav4.
I bought a RAV4 XLE Premium in 2021. It is an investment for me as it will be my last car I will buy. Got the Ruby Red Flare, a beautiful car. I only have 10,706 miles on it so far. Going for my last free oil change next Thursday. I am 75 and picked the RAV 4 for the endurance and resale value. Enjoy every minute driving my RAV. I also bought the extended warranty. Good protection that I don’t have to worry about for several years. Safe driving everyone and hope you enjoy your RAV as much as I do.❤️🙂👍
They sell an aftermarket replica online. It’s 1-1 exactly the same. As long as you know how to wire a little, you can do it in a few minutes. The panel behind the front wheels comes off to allow access to the fog light casings.
@@MichaelOrtega I think he's talking about the main headlights not articulating. Fog lights are options depending on the model you want. Personally, I see the deletion of articulating headlights as a bonus...one less thing to break.
Really happy with my XLE. It seemed to wallow a lot at first, but after two months driving it I don’t notice myself having to fight the steering wheel anymore. I don’t know if I’ve just gotten used to it or if it’s tuned itself to my driving style, but I think it’s more the latter.
I have a 2023 RAV4 . I would not recommend this SUV to anyone. These are some of the issues I have/had: Headlight went out. Broke down in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic during heavy rain. Dealership said water in intake and wanted to charge me $400+ to dry it out. My headlights will not brighten manually or automatically. I am 5'3" and have to be careful getting in/out so I don't bump my head. There is a lot of road noise.
Good luck getting your hands on a new RAV4 in Canada. Toyota has said pure gasoline models have 1+yr wait and Hybrid and PHEV is sold out for the next 2yrs!!!! Great review as always!!!
Ordered our hybrid early October 2022. Was told it would be 12-13 months. Friend just ordered a regular RAV4 and it should be 3-4 months here in Canada.

Yea… the interior infotainment system still looks old. I love this car but that screen just looks bland. Wish they would put what they put in the Lexus SUVs into this car.

The "problem" is certainly NOT delivery. They could deliver all kinds of Rav4s if they had them. The "real problem" is the supply, issue which is mostly the short supply of chips caused mostly by China going in and out of lockdowns while the rest of the world is acting normal...... if you want to call the Ukraine slaughter as "normal".

I don't know how they say Rav4 is not offroad capable. It's better than forester in terms of power and resale value. I have an Adventure Trim, it does so better in Rocky mountains offroad, i get 25 city, 33 on highway. With my 2020 forester i never got more than 26mpg and it lags the power.

2023 RAV4 CarPlay Navigation Issues while connect your phone to use the Apple Map or Google Map. The issues with their navigation over Apple CarPlay randomly putting them off-road, on parallel roads, or even off the route completely, like taking an exit ramp you're not on. If you are own one RAV4 2023, please test it out too see if you having an issue with the CarPlay. Toyota knew the issue. I don't know if Toyota will take this seriously or not, but it's been so long for them to fix it. I hope more people know about it and complain to your Toyota dealer and open case with Toyota Brand Engagement Center, so they can take action faster. Thanks.

They know it’s Toyota’s issue, and they are investigating how to fix it. I’m not the only one who noticed; there was a large spread about it on Reddit. If you or someone else owns the RAV4 2023, try it out for a few days with your Google Maps or Apple Maps. I had a 11 RAV4 4WD Limited with the 269hp 3.5 V6 The one thing that I hated about it was that when I put it in 4WD mode, once I got to 25mph, it would disengage and then go into FWD only. We live in a very mountainous area of north central WA state USA. We have 3 Mtn passes to choose from between our house and Seattle. We desperately need the 4WD to work at all speeds for traction. If I would have known this when I bought my Rav, I would have chosen to buy another vehicle. Last December (2022), I decided to sell my Rav and buy another vehicle with full time AWD. I looked at the Venza, the Rav and the Forester. We LOVED the Venza but it only comes with 1990 Gloomy Grey or Death Black interior colors. Plus the rear visibility is horrible. I then looked at the Rav Hybrid Limited. I was completely dissatisfied with the road noise, fit and finish. The seats were very uncomfortable and the rear visibility was in the toilet as well. In November (2021) I bought my wife an Outback for her 50th birthday. Her Outback was the first Subaru that we’ve ever bought. The traction on all road conditions are far superior over anything else on American roads today. I called my insurance company to ask how much my premiums would increase with the Venza and the Rav. The Venza was a whopping $1K more a year and the Rav was $700 more per year. I then asked about the Forester. My insurance Dropped by almost $300 a year with the Forester. Ultimately I chose the Forester Touring. I chose the Brilliant Bronze with Saddle Brown leather interior. Yes it has some road noise, but not as much as the new Rav. Yes I miss the 269hp V6 from my old Rav, but I Love the fuel economy from my Forester. The visibility in my Forester is AWESOME to say the least. My 84 year old dad, who is wheelchair bound Loves the heated and reclining rear seats. When in my old Rav and the new Venza and Rav I tested, I had to fold the rear seat so his wheelchair could fit. I can leave the rear seats up when I load his wheelchair in my Forester. The seats are so comfortable and supportive in both our Outback and Forester. I’ve had to take my Forester to both Seattle and Spokane (3 hour drive to both) and my Forester remains comfortable. In late April we’ll be driving it to our family farm in MT, (6 hours 1 way). I’ve also noticed that I don’t have to fold the rear seats in my Forester while taking our 120# Chocolate Lab with us. I cannot say enough great things about my Forester. After buying my RAV4, I told my mom that the Rav was the most comfortable and nicest vehicle I’ve ever owned. Now that I own my Forester, my old Rav seems primitive.
Thank you for your input. I need to decide between rav 4 and outback. Going to buy one on monday. I really like both. Toyota for its reliability and subaru for its space and a few more features. From what I've read, the awd system of rav 4, although inferior, you would never notice a difference vs suvaru. Not sure how accurate that is but I'd expect most manufacturers to have awd figured out by now
@@simd510 Well, like I’ve already said… in 21 I bought my wife an Outback. She Absolutely LOVES it. We drove Toyota’s for 40+ years and even though they were either a 4WD or an AWD, we had to put studded snow tires on every fall and then go back to summer tires by April first. My wife drove on her factory tires year round until they wore out. The Outback and Forester have achieved the Highest scores for safety. So far her Outback has been extremely reliable. My wife’s family live in Montana and most of them drive Outback’s or Forester’s. The comfort is superior over the RAV. We loved the Toyota Venza, but our auto insurance premiums would have Increased by $1K yearly for the Venza and $700 More per year for the RAV AWD Hybrid. We have full coverage on all 3 of our vehicles. Her Camry was 18 years old when I bought the Outback for my wife’s 50th birthday. Our insurance premiums DROPPED by $600 per year after dropping the Camry and adding her Outback. Our insurance premium’s also Dropped by $600 per year after dropping my 13 year old RAV 4WD Limited and adding my Forester Touring. I asked my insurance agent why such a Big drop in premiums. She told me that it’s because of the safety, accident avoidance and if in an accident, the likelihood of being injured is far less likely in an Outback and Forester. In late 24, the RAV and the Outback will be redesigned. I’ve seen pictures of the new Outback and it’s very nice looking. The 25 Outback will have more horsepower, get better fuel economy and will be offered with the RAV’s Hybrid system. Likewise the totally redesigned 25 Forester will be available with the RAVs hybrid system. The Forester has less than ONE cubic foot less storage capacity than the Outback. My wife is short, 5’-2”. She likes the ride height of my Forester over her Outback. The Forester’s seats are higher than the Outback. From time to time I am wheelchair bound. My Forester is the First vehicle that I’ve ever personally owned that I don’t have to fold down the rear seat when my wheelchair is in the rear. I had to fold down the rear seats on the RAV and Venza while I was test driving them. When our Subie’s wear out, we will Definitely be replacing them with another Subaru. I don’t know about the Toyota, but in the Outback and Forester, if you get cut off or there’s an accident right in front of you and you’re traveling at 50mph or slower and there’s enough room for your Subaru to fit into, it will literally try to get you into that space. We know this to be true because it happened to us this summer. Some jerk in the fast lane decided that he needed to take an exit, so he came from the fast lane, cut me off in the slow lane and onto the off ramp. The Forester’s Eyesight saved us from being hit. My Forester slammed on the brakes and steered itself into the off ramp lane. This happened more quickly than I had time to respond. I bought the Touring trim because I wanted the saddle brown leather interior. My wife wanted cloth interior so I bought her the Premium trim with Ivory cloth interior. Now she’s wishing that I would have bought her the Limited trim in Ivory leather. If I were to have the choice of buying a RAV, Venza , or Outback again for my wife, I’d definitely choose another Outback. The Outback is also offered (on most trim levels) with a turbo charged 4cyl engine. I had a warranty issue with my Forester, so I drove it to Subaru of Spokane (Washington state) because they have loaner vehicles for free. The part I need is on back order. We had a family emergency in Montana (a 12 hour trip one way). They loaned us a new 2024 Outback Wilderness trim with the turbo engine. We found that the turbo engine is a fantastic choice. The car itself is more comfortable and sits up higher (like my Forester). After driving the 12 hour trip, we were tired from the trip but not tired from driving it. The lane centering with the adaptive cruise control system makes it so much easier to drive. It’s like sitting in your recliner in your living room. We got the notification of the emergency on our last day of our vacation in Hawaii. So we had to drive from Seattle to our house (3 hour drive). We took the Outback to Seattle because it’s more comfortable on longer trips and we had all of our luggage. So we drove to our house, repacked our luggage for Montana weather, loaded up my Forester and drove to Spokane (another 3 hour drive). Then we dropped off my Forester, loaded up the Outback Wilderness and headed to Montana. So we were on the road for 18 hours that day. After returning to Spokane to get my Forester, my wife told me that we were going to save up the money so she can buy a new Outback (probably in 26-27 year model) with either the Hybrid system or a Wilderness trim. We usually keep our vehicles for 12-20 years but my wife and I both were so impressed with the quality, comfort level, ride height and overall performance that I’m ok with us saving the money for my wife to get a turbo Outback. Subaru says to change the oil every 6K miles, but I have it changed every 5K miles and have the tires rotated at that time too. So being Toyota owners for 49+ years, we’ll be Subaru owners for life now. I sincerely hope that my comments helps you in choosing the best vehicle for your needs ! Enjoy your evening. @@simd510 Subaru has come a Lo g way with its reliability since Subaru and Mazda are now in bed with Toyota. One of my sisters in law drives 50K miles a year, so every 6 years they have put 300K miles on their Outback’s. They’ve been buying Subaru’s for decades now.
@@charlesjackson1700 head gaskets haven't been an issue for a long time, certainly since the F series engines replaced the EJ's. Also if you service the Subaru designed CVT it'll last a very long time - it's not a Nissan. Nice try though.
@@EricGrassi the cvt isn’t that great and I have two foresters. Also owned a WRX but you are correct about head gaskets issues as that’s with the EJ’s.
@@ws6transam I had an Impreza with the CVT and now have had my Forester for about a year and a half. It's a good transmission. Failure rate is pretty low for any non-Nissan CVT, especially if they're maintained. The issue is that the maintenance schedules often say fluid is lifetime. It's not. Otherwise, Subaru makes a good CVT. They've been doing it since the 80s.
I think is stupid when brands put larger rims on their "off road oriented trim" and i expect Toyota to keep making that mistake just for the sake of charging more for more expensive larger wheels.
And will be plauged with crazy expensive problem only a few years down the line ..... Mercedes long term reliability isn't even a thing . Get real . Mercedes are a lease it for 1 or 2 yrs and get rid of it asap kind of vehicle
Can't get a HUD,want memory seat but have to go up in trim,then you get low profile tires which I don't want. No turn signal cameras,have one on 2013 Accord works great. Kia has them but won't buy one. Want fog lights. Good ground clearance,and inside space. New info system,check out problems on Tundra videos. Rogue nice,won't buy with CVT and new engine. Really can't find what I want,in this price range.
I don’t know if you’re looking for advice or just venting but every setup runs into hiccups at first, it’s much better than the last gen infotainment and I haven’t felt any issues in the 3 or 4 toyotas I’ve reviewed with it. No single car will be perfect for all preferences, find out your most important priorities and then see which cars are left and narrow it down there according to which ones make you compromise the least.

Hey . I have 2021 Rav4. Its good but cabin is not silent at all. I hate this. I bought car $40000 and still can hear wind noise in car and on highway it's horrible, doesn't't matter how reliable it is. 2023 Rav4 is still like this ?
Did I call it quiet? This segment is typically a bit noisy, if you want something quiet, I’d recommend checking out the Venza or maybe a Subaru Outback if that doesn’t work with the budget.
Been wanting to get a rav 4 or a crv. Currently have a 98 Toyota Corolla and I’m not a fan. This thing feels like a go kart on the highway. If you’re doing highway speeds on a windy day you’re going to get blown around everywhere.. and I’ve been having driver side tire issues. It sounds like either my hub bearing is bad or the tire is rubbing against the wheel well. Either way it’s nerve wracking.

I was NOT impressed with the new Rav at all. The rear visibility in both the Venza and the Rav was horrible. The fit and finish on the Rav was disappointing. It has a lot of road noise and the seats are very uncomfortable. Ultimately I chose the Forester Touring. It checked all the boxes. The outward visibility is awesome. It has some road noise but not nearly as bad as the Rav. The seats are very comfortable and supportive. The engine is peppy. The Touring is top shelf. No packages are available as the Touring model has all of them as standard. I chose the Bronze with Saddle Brown leather interior. My 84 year old dad lives with us in an attached apartment. He is wheelchair bound. I always had to fold 1/2 of the rear seats to get his wheelchair into the Rav. While looking to replace my old Rav, I had him go with me so I could see how hard it was going to be to get his wheelchair in and out. In both of the Toyota’s I had to fold the rear seat. I didn’t have to fold the seat with the Forester. The Forester Touring also has heated and reclining rear seats and heat A/C ducts for rear ventilation. Ultimately I chose the Forester Touring and my auto insurance actually DROPPED by almost $300 a year. I chose the Bronze with Saddle Brown leather interior. I use to think that my old Rav 4WD Limited was the best car I’ve ever owned, but I was wrong. My Forester is by far the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. I’m retired and only drive about 6K miles a year now, so my Forester will probably be the last vehicle I’ll ever have to buy for my personal transportation. My wife has another 17 years to work so I’m sure that when she retires, we’ll buy her another Outback and she can drive it until she passes away. The Crosstrek is a good car, but it’s not as safe as the Forester or the Outback, which have received the Highest safety rating from the IIHS. They received the IIHS Safety PLUS rating, which is higher than Volvo. I change my oil every 4K miles, but Subaru recommends every 6K miles. Also change the front and rear differential, transfer case and transmission flush every 30K miles. This is what my in-laws do and that’s why they get 300K+ miles from their Subie’s. If you’re on a budget, look at the Forester Premium or for a bit more, look at the Forester Sport. The Sport gives you a Lot more for the price
@@Realistick I own a woodland and my wife has a 2022 xle awd. Her car is noticeably softer over small bumps and potholes. The woodland is definitely a firmer suspension tuning.
I mention that briefly here, it’s honestly fine for the kind of off-roading most people are willing to do in a small crossover but if you’re planning to push the limits, it may need some further modifications to compensate for its reluctance to push much torque to the rear axle.
I liked all the previous Rav4 generations except the 4th Generation (2013 - 2018) as it looked like a pregnant chipmunk. 🐿🙃😂 I presently drive a 2020 Rav4 XSE hybrid...... best vehicle I've ever owned & I've owned quite a few over the years.
Wilderness if you intend on actually going to more remote areas or want the best visibility. The TRD offroad gets better gas mileage and can be better equipped. I’d personally go with the Forester Wilderness. For daily driving and most duties, the Woodland would likely be the best!

It's not such a great car as they say. I have been driving it for the last six months, 25k miles. Getting rid of this p.o.c. in January when I am getting another- quiet and comfortable! - real car not a toy.
I didn’t think that was jargon as I really try to avoid that but lugging the engine is a much quicker way to describe it. It means that the car is low in the rev range despite throttle being high, it happens when the car refuses to downshift or a manual driver is abusive, causing both damage and unpleasant vibrations. Most of the time I will also say the car does or does not like to downshift when necessary, typically if it doesn’t like to downshift, it lugs the engine, sometimes it has the torque to overcome the load.
Just wondering what the technical service bulletin details on the corrosion problem on the high voltage cable on the rav4……. Is it a patch job or a real fix. I’m very interested in this vehicle if they actually fixed the problem otherwise it would not make sense to purchase a vehicle with this problem because I live in an area with snow and salt on the roads and I can’t afford the numbers I hear of 5 to$ 7,000 to repair this every 2 o3 or even 5 years…… then this what used to be a reliable vehicle is definitely NOT considered a reliable in my books anymore!
I actually don't think it's been fixed. I was about to get my 2023 and have been a part of a facebook group for this issue. Someone took pictures of his 2023 model underside and it looks the same. Whatever Toyota did I don't think is going to cut it for the severe winters of Canada with our salted roads.

I have been driving RAV4 for the last 6 months. 25k miles. 1:22 - reflection of the left fake plastic aluminium trim exactly in the spot where the back mirror is. IVery annoying. I had to use a black tape to cover this seilver trim. Now it does not make me angry everytime I look in the mirror. 4:13 you hit here the biggest problem - the driver's seat is dramatically uncomfortable. I feel real pain after driving for a longer period of time. No support whatsoever. The pasanger seat is even worse, luckily - most of the time I drive alone. It is the stupid seats that made change the - otherwise not a bad - car. Within few weeks I am gonna get another car with really comfortable driver's seat. Shame on you toyota. I am so very dissapointed.
My 2021 XLE Gas. I just took a 3k mile trip, the cloth seats were very comfortable and no reflection issues with the rear mirror (mine has black trim). I opted for cloth seats as they stay cool in summer and warm in winter, unlike leather. 36mpg too. Great fun, Lots of luggage space too.
There are carbon look plastic trim pieces on amazon to replace the reflecting trim. Videos out there for the modification and how it looks. I thought the mod was good.

Hybrid??? Electric??? 10 Inch screen?? I for One DONT NEED IT DONT WANT IT, BIG PRICE TAG LATER FIXING IT. JUST GIVE US A BETTER DESIGN, MORE POWER, GAS, STICK SHIFTER, AWD AND MOST OF ALL "ROOF RACKS".....THEN I AM ALL IN..... But whatever, I always buy used anyway.......LOL Used only from Car Rental Sales companies like Enterprise, Hertz or Avis. NO BS IN PRICE, BAIT AND SWITCH.....ETC... Dealers are FREAKING ANNOYING and games... Why cant the MANUFACTURER SELL THE CARS AND TRUCKS DIRECTLY??? KNOCK OUT THE DEALERSHIPS👍
