As a student currently pursuing my Bachelors Degree in Geomatics (Surveying) the fact that the Texas Board of Surveyors and Engineers is only requiring an associate degree points that they are headed in the wrong direction. In my opinion this is devaluing the profession, Professional Surveyors should be help to the same standard of professionalism as a Professional Engineering. This includes the education and experience requirements, to become a PE you need a 4 year degree and 4 years experience to receive your license. We need to make the Surveying profession more valuable, and Texas is going in the wrong direction.
In my opinion I have a 2 year degree and 5 years of field experience. You are trying to tell me that I shouldn’t be able to get a license even though I have to pass all the same tests as anyone else because I didn’t waste an extra 2 years being a punk kid in college?
The fact that they can get the survey coursework in two years is so amazing. They must not be competent surveyors. I guess they can only work in that state and county because anywhere else that won't cut it.
@@aml6400 you must have experience and a 2 year. Or a 4 year. And, while many surveyors are NOT proficient, they "get the job done" and are cheap. I am a Survey Crew Chief. My BOSS is a Cad tech. The dude above him, is an RPLS. Now it is so specific and parsed out so they can pay less. Very rarely will you find an ACTUAL RPLS in the field. Unless a LARGE issue comes up. One of my former bosses was an rplsit. He didnt know.his bum from a hole in the ground. He didn't even know how to use ANY equipment. Not just OURS. We asked. He had never spent 1 day in the field. And didn't plan to.
