Please do continue with your small space series. Not only is it useful for the young who have small apartments, but I am one of the 'granny gang' and am in the process of downsizing. So your series is most welcome. Thank you.
Ive commented on a few of this series already. Im building a 550sq foot tiny house- i am a young (50year ) disabled member of the granny gang. I started using a wheelchair in jan n the house i am living in now isnt accessible. So im trying to do a STYLISH, ACCESSIBLE, TINY house. I feel like im losing my mind. The 🏠 will be done in aug. Ur series could not have come at at a better time. Im cramming all ur kitchen videos this weekend as imwe are ordering everything in 2 days. Thank u so much julie. Please keep the videos comimg
Opening shelving strikes me as a cleaning problem, especially in the kitchen. Dust is bad enough, but combined with steam from cooking or even air borne grease, no thanks. I can’t believe I am disagreeing with Julie, she is a goddess! ;-)
I think it depends. While I would never do ONLY open shelving, open shelves not right next to the stove, and for the very commonly used stuff (everyday drinking glasses and dishes) are getting emptied our frequently enough, at which time I’d give them a quick swipe.
Julie, while I don't see eye-to-eye with you on everything, you have an amazing channel filled with practical design advice. I admire that you're not just another RU-vidr with an opinion, but a formally trained interior designer. You deserve all the success!!!!
Yes, yes, yes! Bring on the tips for storage and organization in the kitchen. I've already pared down to just the essentials but still desperately need help fitting everything into my small kitchen.
Have you seen the Joseph Joseph cutlery organizer? I came across it in a small kitchen organization video about six months ago and I love it! I also use shelf risers and lazy Susans in my cupboards, but I’m still tweaking my small-ish kitchen (as a renter).
Yes pls Julie on the storage and organization tips!! Thank you for theses videos. My husband and I are in the midst of renovating our small beach condo and your videos have been the perfect blend of inspiration and know-how during this time. Your work and approach is very appreciated!
Yes to the style guide! Also, I love the open shelf idea, but more for decor than dishes. The hygiene issue primarily. And no more chips or mismatches in my kitchen. New apartment, new dishware and silverware. Another thing that would be helpful for apartment or house rent- temporary changes without pissing off the landlord. We can't paint at all, let alone add tile or wallpaper. I have added lots of color with furnishings and accent pieces. Thinking of adhesive removable tile in the kitchen. Love your channel!
This video was just what I needed Julie. I want you to do the video with the countertop and backsplash. Also address lighting issues I am undecided as to what kind of light to put in the kitchen. I just seem to like everything 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Gotta whittle down your favorite pieces, print them out and tape them up in the kitchen Geneve! Walk back and forth until you’re happy with the selection and can’t beat it! I tell all my clients that when they’re indecisive 🙌🏻😉
Thank you for the ideas! I’d love to see you make a video about storage and organization ideas for the kitchen and how to select the right paint color to paint cherry wood kitchen cabinets.
Thank you very much. Really looking forward to this. I move in a large old house by the end of July. The kitchen is tiny and worn down (50 years old). Let me know if you‘d be interested in the plans/layout... Even more demanding: my son is a chef...
Hi Julie, you continue to inspire me and also give me such a sense of hope that I will one day love my home. If I would like your help, how would that work?
Hey Julie! A video about peel and stick tiles in different rooms (bathroom, kitchens..) would be very helpful! Also how to use them and where to purchase!
Julie I love the small spaces series. I came from 20 years in a 4000 square-foot home and I’m now in a 1500 square-foot home… Temporary I hope! Love the series .. love you. Stay well❤️
YES!!! I am lost. I need a video about storage ideas for pretty much every room in my home. Our home was built in 1960 and we basically have NO STORAGE avaible at all!
Gold this video is just pure gold, thanks, I saw you common design mistakes, over and over ill do the same with this one, am a carpenter that is mutating from a cabinet make to kind of kitchen and bath designer, thanks i learn so much from this, greeting from Santa Cruz Bolivia
Thanks I definitely will watch it, you know here were I live kitchens are very old school, very little design, so your videos help me so much, thanks again
Thanks, Julie. These look fabulous. I'm not Team Marble but the single piece backsplash is gorgeous! Yes, the countertop backsplash video would be great. See you Tuesday!
This was a really good video. I watched it for the second time and will refer to it and the countertop video again when I am ready to commit to making the upgrade
I have seen your each and every video and I know you are not into accent walls but can you please provide your recommendation on accent walls specially in the dining/living room and how to use the space around it. Thanks!
Hi Utkarsh! Check out my videos on focal walls and living room design mistakes! I share my tips on how to create the perfect focal (not accent 😆) wall for your space 👍🏻☺️
I had my 1999 builder-grade 11.5'x12' kitchen renovated and finished in summer 2018. For that renovation, I went with 42"H wall cabinetry that rose to the 8' ceiling (don't forget to extend that over-the refrigerator cabinet forward to 24"D and support it with a cabinet panel wall). In this cabinet set, I added one lighted wall cabinet at the end, featuring a mullion door with hammered glass that lightened things a bit. Instead, I limited open shelves to the box bay window to maintain max storage capacity with the cabinets. I hung three 20"Lx10"Wx2"D floating shelves (using "Sheppard" shelf brackets) on the wall of the box bay window (I hung them during fall or winter last year). These shelves hold a small set of cookbooks and a display of cookware and serveware pieces. On the other wall of the box bay window, I created a hanging plant wall (did this about 3 days ago) that gets lots of afternoon light filtering through the leaves from the tree next door. Both the lighted wall cabinet and the cookware/serveware display on the floating shelves in the bay window are immediately visible from the front entry door. I went with 16"x16" floor tiles from the Armstrong Alterna series, which not only made a difference in appearance and presentation but also minimized grout lines. Since I wanted an eat-in kitchen, I maintained floor space at the center of the kitchen by placing a rectangular bar height table (59"Lx24"Wx42"H) in the bay window and two bar height chairs with backrests. The taller table also served a secondary purpose of mostly hiding my waste container from view (didn't have a cabinet to sacrifice for holding it). The waste container is mostly not visible until you're standing in the kitchen.
I love how you created custom solutions for every nook and cranny of your kitchen! Hope others are reading this for brilliant tips and insight. I’m sure that dining nook is lovely with the window view! 😍
ooooh GIRL! style guide! YES PLEASE! I need genius combinations! I think I want different tiles and countertops maybe wall paper on one side of my kitchen from what I will have on the C portion. stove fridge sink side. Pffft Choosing wall paper is awful.... Love your videos!and your help !❤️🦋😘
@@JulieKhuu I love your videos and the one on how to avoid kitchen design errors is fantastic! Wealth of information. I have watched it at least 10 times while planning our kitchen and the one on bedrooms when working on our bedroom.
Hey julie Why ask You are absolutely fantastic.. You just be... Do whatever u feellike.. I am game..pl.. You hv so much content..nd bursting with ideas...which i find Absolute delight in... Keep it coming..dearest...we will watch... undoubtedly... Keep it up!!!!!!!👍👍👍👏👏👏👌👌👌
Absolutely love this video and I will refer back to it as needed. I was wondering if you would consider doing a video on lighting for low kitchen and dining room ceilings. Pleeeease.
Hi Julie, love your videos and tips. However, not sure that smaller tiles behind hobs with the grease build-up and associated cleaning of more grouted joints. I would always advise large sheet materials like heat resistant glass or large format porcelain tiles.
I love open shelves. I live in a “tiny” condo and our kitchen is 7 feet 3 inches long and it is one-sided. Cabinets are at the ceiling, fridge is under the counter, and the open shelves are in there sections. One small section is 25” with a open shelf built into the base of the upper cabinet. (All things coffee go here for easy everyday access) the other open shelf is part of the upper cabinet that holds a few cookbooks & a few cute usable kitchen items, and along the base of this upper cabinet 39” is the other open shelf that is built into the base. (This houses plates & bowls & glasses). Yes, there’s dusting involved but because we live tiny it has created functionality and it’s a beautiful design feature. I keep it very neat and cute and very clutter free. I think the one thing that people forget is living tiny means living with less. So I’ve picked what I really use. I don’t keep things I don’t use and I feel like I am surrounded by all my favorite things. I also like dusting & oiling my beautiful wood cabinets so they will last forever.
I’m the same Connie! I love the practicality 👍🏻There’s actually barely any dust on my open shelves because my iRobot takes care of the daily dust on the floors!
@@JulieKhuu My condo is “tiny” 576 sq ft, so it’s very easy to clean and I think after being here for 2 years were finding our groove with “things” and what really makes sense to keep. Plus we know where everything is lol 😂. Loved this video on smaller spaced kitchens thank you
Thanks for tips especially the shelving ideas and lighting. I am working on area where I can place a small light to highlight wrought iron brackets with wood shelving for cookbooks and display white porcelain items. Going for light gray color on walls. Furniture is Wright iron and black gray floor and a touch on green here and there. Not sure about backsplash, maybe just washable gray paint on walls?
Yes on countertop and backsplash video! Please mention if your backsplash is a golden knotty pine wood like mine in my cottage. Thanks for this video, I’m getting great ideas 🙏🏼
Hi Julie, I've binged on your videos, so thank you for the several tips. My greatest worry is whether the kitchen I like will blend with a different wood tone table and open concept TV console table.
The kitchen is more important and should be prioritized since it’s fixed Caroline. The furniture can be replaced, but the cabinets aren’t quite as easy to swap out. Check out my open concept layouts video for more inspiration 👍🏻☺️
I'm really enjoying this Small Spaces series.. *Chef's Kiss* A huge YES to the Countertop Backsplash Combo video and the Organization/Storage videos. Keep up the fantastic work!
Aloha, lovely kitchens, but I’m dealing with a kitchen so small, an island would never even fit in it. Can you do a video on like, uh, REALLY SMALL KITCHENS please?
You can only place an island if you have a min. 36” free space surrounding it. Other than that, a peninsula would do, or even a freestanding moveable table that you back up against a wall
Looking forward for your Style guide combinations, Julie. 💙 it is like you read my mind... kitchen combinations that work well will surely be fine in bathroom, too. Thanks, Julie!!
Julie I find you simply amazing so much God given talent man I wish I could afford you to design my kitchen I’m working on a tight budget and my kitchen is not really small but I’m just enjoying a lot of your videos to see what I can learn because I’m totally clueless but I’m going to watch a Videos over and over and see if I can come up with some kind of design for my kitchen thank you so much for all of your beautiful ideas I hope this makes sense it’s a voice text laugh out loud Donna
Thank you for watching Donna! I have an entire kitchen playlist for more inspiration! Save the images you love so you can refer back to them for colors and materials 🙌☺️
True... she always make us think intelligent...suggestive of such ideas...rummaging through our brains..we realize that potential in our brains...which was lying subdued..
I have learned about the design of utilizing small kitchen spaces. My home has a small kitchen and we are going to do shaker kitchens and kitchen island on wheels. Somewhat confused on the color of kitchen gray/white, but use a navy kitchen island.
We are building an addition for my parents. The kitchen, livingroom, and dining room will be open concept, and I'm wondering how to make it easier for my mom to keep clean. The ceiling will be vaulted to make it seem more open. Can you do a video on open concept with vaulted ceilings? I love the bookshelves for a pantry. I store my noodles, baking supplies, and cookbooks on one. ♡
