Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (or PTSD) is a mental illness that is brought about when we experience a traumatic event ourselves. Or when we witness or hear about a traumatic event that happened to someone we love. Statistics show that approximately 1 out of every 3 people who experience severe trauma develop PTSD. The American Psychological Association defines trauma as “any event where there is a serious threat to one’s life.” Are you watching this video to learn more about PTSD and to help raise awareness on the topic? @@eugenio3048 Same. I think it may be because when you were younger, you were in survival mode and did only what you thought was the best at the time of the situation. It's easy to look back and criticize yourself for your actions during a ptsd moment and it can be very difficult to think about how amazing you and the things you endured are. I myself understand what you're going through and it really sucks. Everyday, I still struggle with the decisions I made when I was 8 or 9, but even when things are bad, we have to remember the good things in life and keep on enduring. Life is like a boxing match. You are trying to stay on top of it and keep yourself from falling down, but the opponent punches you in the stomach and the head. The impact may be so cruel that you are having trouble breathing and staying up to give it one last punch. You may feel that if you just end it all, the world won't make you their punching bag anymore and that no one cares about you, but there is a crowd cheering for you. You may not be able to see or hear them because of the ringing in your ears, but they are there and willing to help you if you fall. They believe in you and are so happy that you've made it this far. An entire army is willing to fight for you. Sorry this is so long, but I thought that maybe if I say this, it could help someone looking in the comments. Have a good day :)

Ok so my “traumatic event” didn’t cause me to get ptsd as I don’t really have any of these symptoms but I did just wanna mention. So when I was of a young age, I think around 6 or 7 I was on holiday and was swimming in the murky water with my dad when he let out a yell and was injured by a scorpion fish. He was able to be treated but at the time but wit was really scary as I was very young and seeing a parent cry and bleed from the foot whilst frantically hopping back to shore knowing that if it got you, you would be dead was particularly frightening. I had a couple of hallucinations when in water for a while after that and my mum still doesn’t get why I just hate going in the ocean. It’s one of my most vivid memories of childhood. So yeah, sorry for the essay I wrote - it’s just nice to get that off my chest Edit: thank you for all the love and support! Despite still being particularly careful and somewhat nervous in the sea both me and my dad are fine now 💛💛💛

being emotionally abused for years and also finding out that almost your whole life and family life is a lie because the people you lived with lied about being your biological parents and emotionally abused you and hit you sometimes if you didn’t do something right or “their way.” And also controlled almost everything you did and barely let you go and we’re extremely strict to the point of it being controlling and obsessive and many other things they did. Can that cause PTSD or CPTSD?
@alexiastefopoulou9648
@alexiastefopoulou9648 4 года назад
I am so sorry for what happened to you. I have been emotionally and mentally abused and sometimes physically also by my narcissistic parents. This kind of abuse causes cptsd because it is repeated trauma unlike PTSD that is caused by a specific event. Although I believe cptsd is not an official diagnosis but I am not quite sure.

@@alexiastefopoulou9648 Yes, C-PTSD is a diagnosis now generally accepted. At least, the World Health Organisation accepts it as valid, and the NHS recognizes it as well as the American VA. The American Psych. Association does not accept it, or at least, its not in their Big Book of Issues (sorry, the DSM manual). It was first coined in the early 90's I believe. Sorry for the infodump there.
@dlorion
@dlorion 4 года назад
Yeah, literally everything you just mentioned can lead to PTSD or C-PTSD. Granted, the latter of the two is still somewhat debated as a legitimate diagnosis in some places, but there is a great deal of study-based evidence to suggest it in fact exists as a distinct diagnosis. Anyways, I encourage you to try therapy or counseling of some kind if you can, even if that has to wait until you leave that household. I do hope you are already out on your own or with better guardians. If not, i understand how hard it can be to live in an abusive environment, but you will get out eventually. You won't be a kid forever, some day you'll be able to support yourself and leave those wastes of oxygen behind.

TW: Abuse?? Getting hurt... ♧ I've witnessed my mom getting choked by the guy she was talking to, and he looked so angry doing it. I didn't even intend to see either. I felt something was wrong and checked up on them. I remember blood, broken glass, screaming, him on my back to get the phone I had... I was in 3rd grade. So many other things happened in my life too. (*Note: I've also heard trauma can be caused by other "smaller" things like bullying and such. Something I've went through for years.) Anyways... Thank you for bringing light onto this topic. It's hard to talk about, but we can't just keep throwing a blanket over it in hope that it will just go away on its own and never happen again to anyone ever. So speak up if you can, and be there for each other, especially in this time of need. Stay safe everyone ♡

I grew up in a violent home; my parents would have physical fights and were constantly screaming and cussing at each other since I was born until college. I didn't think I had PTSD because I never had nightmares about my experiences. I recently adopted my second cat and they sometimes have fights that honestly trigger my suppressed feelings about fights at home. It was really weird experiencing it but just want to share this with anyone who has similar issues at home. Your experiences matter and are important to you. Just because you don't have nightmares, doesn't mean you don't have any trauma. Take care of yourself..

Finally i found someone who has the same issue as me . From the day i was born till now ( i’m 14 now ) and my parents are always fighting and yelling and sometimes they don’t stop fighting even if it’s nighttime and i can’t sleep . Months ago my mom did something that can put her in jail and she had so much fighting with my dad and she tried to kill herself in front of me and my sister , till now they don’t stop fighting and i feel comfortable when i’m at school and i don’t want to go home , my sister is 11 yo and i feel responsible to take care of her , she’s young so she don’t understand some things and she’s always happy and playing with my aunt’s children and i’m happy for her but for me i’m always thinking about what could go wrong and i can’t think clearly . When my grandma was alive i was always talking to her and she’d comfort me but she died last year and now i don’t have anyone to talk to . I don’t have big nightmares about those things but i’m always dreaming about it . This reply is late lol , i think you even forgot about posting this comment , but when i saw your comment i didn’t feel like i’m the only one who’s dealing with these things and sorry about the long comment 🥺💗

When I was 6 I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder because of my parents divorce. But 3 years ago I was diagnosed with depression and ptsd due to a ex step mom who would call me names I can not say because I am only 15. What caused my ptsd is her getting in my face and saying if she wouldn't go jail she would kill me right her right now. So I will still have a panic attack if someone gets close to me with me allowing them to, which means it is very hard for me to go into shops, most of the time I have one of my parents on one side and my boyfriend or brother on the other side because I feel comfortable with them near to me. So I guess why I committed this is to let people know that they are not alone and kinda that these disorders are life changing and it makes it very hard to function comfortably without stress Ps this channel helps me know that I'm not alone And I love you😊😘

I honestly don’t know if I have PTSD or not but when I was younger I had a best friend I was related to who would constantly peer pressure me and made me me kiss her (like tongue tongue, like actual kiss and stuff) even after I said no. I cried when I told someone but I didn’t understand the severity of it when I was 5. Years later, someone triggered me and I started to have mental breakdowns and flashbacks. I felt stupid, worthless, silenced, and weak. I had a hard time opening up or even trusting others. I missed out on a lot because there was a week where I had so much work and I was so sad and traumatized I couldn’t be happy with my friends. Later on I opened up to so many people I loved even though I had a hard time opening up and they accepted me. It’s nice to know theres light at the end of the tunnel and lately I have been feeling better ❤️ hope all of you are holding up as well with whatever you’re struggling with ❤️❤️

My traumatic experience was: I was digging a hole at the beach and I tried to make a cave. I (stupidly) stuck my head inside the "cave". It collapsed in on me, almost suffocating me. I remember parts of it, like screaming for help. I was in stuck in hospital for about two and a half weeks. I'm now scared that things will collapse on me, Also something that doesn't help this fear is the fact that my bunk bed collapsed while I was in it.

There is this guy who would always abuse me emotionally but thankfully he left my school. But everytime I see his name, hear a similar voice, see his picture I would get a vivid image of him turning the school against me and them beating me up. I would start to cry, shake, and scratch myself but then he never told a single soul that he was bullying me. The image that flashed through my head every time had never happened.

I have PTSD over my aunt holding me at gun point when I was 10. I went on a trip to California with my grandma who promised she'd stay with me the whole time. She didn't. She dropped me off at my aunt's house and left to a whole nother city. I called my mom (in a different state), worried when my aunt got to drunk. She held a gun to my head, broke my phone, and pulled the trigger. The gun happened to be empty. To this day, I can't see my aunts picture without breaking down or have a gun in my sight. I don't know why the cops weren't called, my grandma came to pick me up (at a strangers house after I ran away from my aunt) and the rest of the trip told me how horrible I was for taring her family apart.

I'm diagnosed with ptsd and can say that it's one of the worst things to deal with, specially because you won't see the world the same as others ever again, that's what I got for losing a lover to forced suicide due to social discrimination, everyone with ptsd has gone through the worst don't forget that. If you have ptsd and read this, things that help are covering your senses like seeing or hearing (depends who), that helps me go quickly trough triggers and also find someone that loves you enough to help you, don't go for less cause all of you deserve the best 💙

Thank you for this video, it speaks to me on a personal level. I was molested at a very young age. 8 or 9, I suppose. It actually happened a couple of times, but I never gave it much thought because I was just a child and I didn't know it any better. Last year the repressed memory was brought up by accident and I realized that I'm traumatized. I developed an eating disorder due to what happened to me. I never feel happy or complete, it's all just foggy. A few months ago I even tried to seek help, yet my mother told me I didn't need it. Guess I have to help myself, so I came up with the idea of meditation. Also, I try to write down a few positive things everyday and convince myself that I'm not my trauma - that I can grow as a person.

I have memories of my father hitting me with his belt when I was a toddler (sometime during the ages of 2 and 3). I never thought I had PTSD. I was only hit on 2 occasions so I didn’t think it was valid for me to say I did. My dad doesn’t remember it and says that if he had hit me, there would’ve been marks because that happened with his dad. But how do you explain why I also have memories of fearing belt jingles? Why the first time my mom put my own belt on me, I felt scared? How come every time someone gets mad or simply annoyed with me, I expect them to hit me? How come every time my father is in the room I grow tense and want to leave even if I haven’t done anything wrong? I don’t know if this is my total fault or not. Or maybe partially. But I’ve lived with this mindset for almost as long as I can remember. Never trust my parents. Expect the worst punishment for every single mistake you make (school, home, etc.). And the worst part of it: Never back down from a physical threat, instead make it terrified of you. If this isn’t PTSD, tell me and why. I’m really wishing for clarity in this because I don’t trust myself.

My mom has struggled with complex PTSD for almost her entire life, and unfortunately she made it part of her identity. Growing up with her was really hard as she was always blaming me and my father for triggering her or being abusers. She would casually talk about how my own struggles made me such a hard child to raise, as if it were my fault. As much as I love her, I've had to remove both of my parents from my life. Whether or not I've developed PTSD myself, I hope we both find the help we need to get better.
