So I am considering immigrating and this is the first video i have seen on youtube that gives advice and tips specifically for people with kids like me. Thank you so much. I dont know how I got here, but I am glad I did. And yes, i will be binge watching your videos. Much love❤
Hi Kim! In Canada they like to put you in the grade according to your age ... June is the end of the school year here so in September you will start in grade 12 I would think. My daughter started school in March and was in grade 8 in SA. She moved straight into grade 9 and did it in 4 months! Don’t worry - it is all possible and it’s not like you have 12 subjects.chat to me directly if you need to - you can dm me IG: andreathesagirl
We were about to start application process when COVID intervened. Worried about leaving it too late as my kids are already Grade 11, Grade 9 and Grade 5. Worried about the older two fitting in at such a late stage and is it even allowed? I know in the UK you have to complete the last three years as a unit there. Would ideally be looking for a Catholic school or public school in Oakville. Would so love to chat?
Oh wow Andrea I’m so glad I found you , I love what I’m hearing about high school my Son is in Grade 7 and doing 8 subjects that’s a lot causes cramming and I love the community hours wow it’s so awesome 😎 this will definitely work well for my Son
Awesome - i've been waiting for a video on schooling! Thanks so much for all the information - i'm feeling very anxious for Aiden to make new friends and to make sure he'll be ok!
Quick correction: No, you don’t have to wear uniforms in all Catholic schools. I attended catholic from kindy to OAC (grade 13) and was never required to dress in uniform. It’s dependent on the school and the board
@@AndreavanNiekerk Actually, I think it's just dependent on the school because some schools in my board wore uniforms but other schools in the same board didn't. And we were all english catholic so I have no idea why or how it works. But you can bet a french catholic *will* require uniforms. I don't know of any that didn't.
Hi Andrea, the schooling system sounds amazing in Canada! My husband and I are looking to immigrate to Canada from South Africa in the near future. I am busy finishing my BEd Foundation Phase degree and have some experience in schools. I was wondering if you have any contacts of teachers at elementary schools. I would love to know what the requirements are for me to use my degree and teach in Canada too.
I know that special needs kids have the same opportunities as other kids but understand that in terms of immigration specifically, rules may be different. I suggest making contact with immigration experts on this.
Hello! I’m a student at a catholic school in Alberta, I’ve been to two different schools so far (junior high) and we weren’t required to wear uniforms.
Can Catholic schools in Canada be compared to private Catholic schools in SA? Bcz I'm worrying my kids are studying in a private Catholic school in SA but I won't be able to afford private school in Canada
Hi - this is not easy to answer since the schools here are so different to SA schools. Catholic schools are free and not always private schools. I would suggest you look it up and see if there are any private Catholic schools. I have not come across any. Private schools here are very expensive you are right but the standard of a government school in Canada ranks in the top 5 in the world! Both streams of schools (Catholic and non) are amazing. I have a South African friend who had a kid in private schooling and also loves it. Some private schools are a lot more affordable than others.
In some ways yes but on the whole you will get a good schooling education in South Africa. It’s just so many more opportunities and options are available here
I must disagree. I attended school in South Africa up until grade 9, then finished high school in Canada. Both countries simply have different curriculums/focuses. I personally found that South African school had a more solid foundation for academia, however, Canadian school definitely taught me more life skills. When I transferred over, I jumped a grade and still found myself ahead of my Canadian peers in various subjects such as English, Geography, and History. Science was pretty much equal, and Math was more difficult in Canada. On the flip side, classes like woodworking and volunteering in an animal shelter were highlights of my student years. Being able to drive is also a major plus! In short, my schooling in South Africa gave me structure and a solid foundation, whereas my schooling in Canada taught me independence, and how to express myself properly. Ultimately, I believe both had their merits and I benefitted from them equally.
Hi. We are in the process of immigrating to Vancouver island. My husnand has a Job in Duncan. Maybe you could help me with infio on the best areas to live and obviously with the best schools. (schools are most important). I have 2 boys, grade 10 and grade 4. This is something that really stress me out. We want to live in a decent area that is not to expensive but also have good schools that can accommodate both my kids. Thanx so much. I've been watching your videos since we started the process. We will be there in 2-3 months.
I hope I get this answered...Is it true that in some regions high school only go 3 years , so grade 9 is part of the middle school? Very nice and helpful video by the way👍✨...you are very good at explaining!!
You will most likely have to be immunized at some point. My kids had to get extra vaccinations in Canada because some are not necessary in South Africa. I am sure this is not the first time someone has experienced the same situation - Canada will have an answer for what to do! That’s what I love about this country. Check out www.canada.ca
Hi Andrea, Scarborough or Brampton? I and my husband work in Toronto. So, which would be a better choice from the schooling point of view for my kids (two girls) going to Gr 5 and SK. Should we read too much into the school rankings on Frazer institute? There are very few schools in Green on Frazer in both of these areas and finding a house around them is a challenge. Also, doesn't look like there are catholic board schools in Brampton too. Looking at catholic schools only cos I'm told they are very organized. Please advice.
What you SHOULD do, is take 3 months to get your Quebec residency before you choose a University (3 months is how long you need to get local provincial residency and things like HealthCare, when you move around Canada.) The tuition here is the cheapest in the country, the loans, and bursaries the highest,. If either McGill, Concordia, or Bishop (the three English Universities) doesn't have your program, you want something VERY specialized. And degrees from any of those (but especially the first two) are as good as any. McGill is also known and respected, all over the world. Plus spending a few years in Quebec might stop all of that Quebec bashing from happening. It's NOT what the ROC seems to think it is.
Hello. Vaccinations are voluntary as far as i am aware of. What if children have never been vaccinated? Do you still need to submit any paper on that ? Thanks.
This is something you would need to check but as far as I know your child will not be accepted into any school without the required vaccinations. You would have to home school your child.
@@AndreavanNiekerk i thought i was coming to a free country ) I have not met any info on obligatory vaxes, but it might differ province tonprovince..ill check, thanx
You would most likely be able to enrol your child in a private school take takes kids that have not been vaccinated… that is also an option to research!
@@AndreavanNiekerk Well, not everybd can afford private schools, so this cant be the only solution. Ona government website it talks abput at least 2 exeptions - medical ans religious reasons. Plus, this is a voluntary decision and not mandatory as it is about constitutional rights and so on. I have also spoken to spme of our frienda in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Toronto..their children are not vaxxed and were enrolled to public schools without any issues. So i beleive this is not that straight forward and I will check with a particulae province I am willing to settle in, ans that is what i would recommend others to do. Thanx.
Hi! What about the kids have physical problems? My son is a CP child, mentally he is very sharp but can't walk and write properly because of stiff muscles. So can he get admission in public school or not?
zile huma Hello Zile / yes of course. Every child has the right to education. You would need to research with the specific region you are in to find out what would be suitable for your child in terms of his needs. It would mean perhaps sending an email or having a call to find out.
You’re such a cool mom!!❤️ I’m in 12th grade right now in Africa and, I’m about to migrate to Canada, Ontario after about 3 months with my mother and little sister. I am very worried that I’m going to get bullied because I have darker skin and for my poor English. Do you think I will face any problems like this? And another question I have for you is that, will they convert my grades into their grading system? Also, will they return me to 10th or 11th grade because I’m 16 years old? Please reply to this😭😭Thank you🙏
Hey Lee! You are awesome! Wowsers I have no idea on those questions about being bullied. What I do know is that Toronto is one of the most diverse cities in the world and if there was any city that can handle immigrants, it’s this one. The schools are pretty tough on this kind of thing too. When you get to Ontario you will be able to go to a welcome centre in your area and they will do a quick assessment of your current grades and slot you in according to your grades and not your age. My girls both moved up a grade when we landed here! Hope this helps and thanks for the follow and likes!!! You can follow me on IG too ! See the description for details. 😀😀🇨🇦
Hi Andrea Do I need a master degree in Audiology to work in Canada or will a bachelor degree will be sufficient. What organization will I need to register with to work there once I I relocate?
Hello! I would make contact with Canada Abroad and ask these questions...! They are more in the know of current job opportunities but mostly what is required for your entry into Canada. Www.canadaabroad.com
when your profession has a board (like the Royal College in the UK), the best thing is always to contact the board of the province you want to live in, they'll tell you what degrees they recognize, and what's the process for foreign graduates to obtain a license :)
Hey Andrea, I am planning to join highschool grade 12 in canada from indonesia, would it be a problem to adjust to he new curriculum, and is it common for such cases of students joining in grade 12 to new schools from abroad?
Hello Rishik! It is common- kids adjust well to the system here in most cases. Good luck with everything! If you know where you will be living you can find out which school board you belong to abs get more information!!
Hi Andrea, nice to meet you! Thanks for that useful advices, I'm from Brazil & looking forward to bring my Family up in Canadá. Would be great to learn from your experiences, I'm going to check your web site. By the way I'd like the Province of Alberta, do you have any other recommendation to live? My Son is 7 yo. A pleasure, Carlos 👨👦🇨🇦 Pd: I'll be waiting for your support, wishing the best over there 😊
I watched your 6 things about school in canada. What about the STATIONARY, In SA as you know we have to buy the stationary, uniform (summer and winter) every year end, and cover them as well as workbooks sent from school. Thanks Andrea!
You are giving information about school in Canada, but really you are talking about school in Ontario. Education is provincially regulated, and is different in every province.
Just discovered your channel and i can't help binge watching all your videos. You are so informative and hella gorgeous. Thank you for giving and never stop. We're here for it and we support you.
I went to school in Virginia, USA my whole life and an A started at 93% A+ was considered over 100%. There is a fall homecoming week for fall sports and a winter homecoming week for winter sports. The winter homecoming dance would be like your winter formal, then prom is always in spring. You get about 25 minutes for lunch in most public schools
School is free, but some schools have fees for yearbooks, band or art fees, field trips, lunch supervision and some other items. But university and trade schools you still pay a portion of the cost so university is about 3000$ a term.
The schooling is a mess, Andie, because of COVID-19. I am just so grateful that I’m not in school anymore. Being separate from my classmates would hurt.
The education system in Canada is a joke. The level is so much lower compared to most Asian and South Asian countries. I have family friends whose children after having studied for five years of schooling in Ontario tried to go back and study in India. Guess what, they ended up failing in school there forcing them to move back to Canada. Also it's discriminatory towards those who are not Catholic. We got a big shock when we tried to get our son admitted to a Catholic school and were told that as we weren't Catholic, he couldn't be admitted. In India there's no such discrimination as to which religion you follow when it comes to getting an admission to a Catholic school. What's disgusting is that my taxes actually fund these Catholic schools which would not admit my non Catholic child.
Life of Nolo Watson hey Nolo, my husband was transferred so we did not need to use an agency. I can recommend Howzit.ca / cool website with loads of info too.
