*To whoever may be reading this Bro, don't worry, you got this. You have prepped for this. These gals ain't going nothing on you. You will make it. If you don't, don't take it to the heart, don't dawn upon it. You just need that extra push to propell you forward. It's not a bad thing. Next time you tryout, you will get in. Idk why I did this I saw people worrying in the comments so...anyways I don't know how this works we don't have volleyball here in the UK (well we do but like not in schools. As in not like America has it)
Thank you so much. Try outs is next month and i barely started playing 2 weeks ago. Im practicing everyday for 3-4 hours. Its hard but i know that whoever is trying out, will get through this!
I’m a freshman and I just had tryouts and I made the team I was really happy so a little advice for the ones who have tryouts coming soon just be ready to be flexible and being able to move around. If you are playing a quick 6on 6 game and the ball is coming for you or near you and you want to go for the ball make sure you say “i got it” or “mine” so that the other players won’t bump into you. When your coach is testing your strength and that’s means striking make sure you have a good jump and your foot work is on point. When serving serve with your palm and not your fingers. You’ll probably get to bump or set back and forward with a partner so make sure your doing your best. Overall wish everyone who is trying out good luck! And remember it’s all or nothing.
Birdy Tweets i’m starting my freshman year in a few days and i’m trying out for setter! haha wish me luck also i started playing in 7th if anyone was wondering(i’m pretty sure u weren’t but)
no one asked but for 8th grade season 30 girls tried out and I was one of the 11 that made it. Honestly coaches are looking not only for skill but flexibility, good sportsmanship/ good and encouraging attitude, and coach-ability. glad u could help some people out :)
here’s a tip for upcoming players at tryouts!! ALWAYS have an amazing attitude. coaches keep track of everything, and they know everything. literally. ur attitude counts for PT (playtime). believe me, ur coach will not let anyone on that court with a horrible attitude. shake off ur mistakes with a smile. encourage ur teammates. never settle, and keep working forward, i promise ur going to get better. have fun, try your best, but most importantly, PLAY VOLLEYBALL! Good Luck!❤️
@@TheaTheSkulldog this could be a biased answer since I play volleyball and have never done cheer but even just thinking about it, I would probably choose volleyball. This is because I love the rush I get when I play and it gives everyone on the team a chance to shine individually whereas I don't think cheer would give that sort of opportunity? Not 100% sure about that though since I don't know the ins and outs of cheerleading!
same!! i'm in a volleyball academy/club, but i'm going to try out for my school team. For my club you didn't have to tryout, so i'm watching this to see what i need to know when i tryout for my school.
@@mekerevenn4762 the girl in yellow aint even that good tho usually im one of the "better players" according to coaches and i always have to help the noobies but i control my temper unlike her that was just stupid.

Today was last tryouts, I felt like I did terrible… on Monday they will be saying the teams, I hope I make it🥺 Edit (Mon, Dec 2, 2019) : I MADE THE TEAM!!
our tryouts are like practice🥴 i didn’t make it this year but trying again!! it was kind of sad that I made it last year but this year I didn’t. all the girls from last year made it but me.. my emotions were mad and sad, sad I didn’t make it and mad because i didn’t practice enough and I could have done better. BUT you know what, I’ll try again this year and practice way more. mostly my serves because that my weak spot.
I was so ready but nervous I remember screwing up the whole tryout i didnt do a single thing right and i kept getting yelled at for my mistakes. Didnt make the team and got hardcore laughed at. Out of school volleyball is for me. I can do things really good but performing infront of the popular girls who tryed out made me freak out and anxious
Don’t let others be the reason you fail ever tryout again and just forget about the other girls bc u are enough and if u tried and didn’t make it keep trying never give up
Tryout tips (probably ones you haven’t heard in every video you’ve watched) 1- don’t throw the ball in the basket unless you know your gonna make it, just set it in there!! In case you do miss...? 2- don’t get nervous when a coach is walking by, just play how you do, don’t try to just change it up!! If you mess up right in front of them, don’t even worry about it, they also look for how you react when you mess up. 3-Cheer for people when they do something good, everyone there is probably nervous, and you being a good teammate will not only help them, but looks good on you yo the coaches!! 4- if you don’t get the drill ASK SOMEONE that does!! It’s okay to ask questions!!! Have a good attitude!!!
iiElvira just put your heart into it every hit every serve every dig and dive every save try your best and then more and come in confident and make it known who you are confidence doesn’t meant cockiness it’s normal to have nerves but don’t let them over power your performance most importantly good luck
@@nora-kn4uq 😂 idk why they think that. I’m gonna be honest, it gets super annoying when boys at school try to act like they’re super tough and try hard in every sport and basically not give anyone a chance to play because they wanna seem cool. And especially running. They always sprint the whole way and think everyone cares when really, we just think it’s obnoxious.
@@mahnoorahmad1690 We do it because it's fun, do you honestly think we care or have thought that the girls would think it's cool, no. Trying hard in sports isn't a bad thing at all, especially when you want a good grade.
@@theskiesahead795 I’m not saying it’s bad to work hard in a sport, but in my school, the boys never give others a chance to play when others wanna participate. A lot of them at my school are ball hogs and sometimes they injure other people by pushing them aside or running into them. That isn’t okay.
I’m gonna be trying out for our schools volleyball team. But it will be my first time playing volleyball competitively. Im only 5'1 but i'm planning to play as a libero. Some of the upperclassmen said I should try out because I was good. (Volleyball for fun) (Boys volleyball but we dont start till March)
zan oh yeah, I’m a boy who’s trying out next week, I’m in 8th grade, I’ve played volleyball but never on a team because my school doesn’t have one so I have to tryout for club,. i wanna play as libero/ds or setter I’m not a good hitter
Sadly, my school has never had a person play the Libero position, but I’m going to try and be the first! My strongest point is my receives. I have been training rigorously on other aspects, but receives are mostly my thing. I hope you make it in!
Ayeee I'm roughly 5' 2 and wanting to be a libero, never played volleyball until beginning to learn like 3 weeks ago. Tryouts are in a month. Send help
Luckily my school started a boys volleyball team before all of this corona and not alot of people have been interested so far. All I Have to do is get my athletic clearance and Ill be good to go. Ive never played in school but I am strong in my recieves and serving I have a smart playstyle.
Here are some tips from a Volleyball coach (me) 1. Be on time 2. Say hit to your coaches 3. When the coach is explaining something, listen. 4. Shag your ball!!! 5. Always hustle. 6. Never quit on a ball, even if it seems impossible. 7. When the coach asks for a volunteer, jump in. 8. If you get a good set, acknowledge your setter. 9. If you make a mistake, don't sulk or show bad body language. Just learn from it and move on. 10. Say thank you at the end. Don't worry about wearing headbands or bright colors. Let your attitude and passion shine through. The coaches will see that. Trust me. Good luck with your tryouts. Stay positive and swing hard.
I had my first try-out today, 2 more to go. I’ll update you when I find out next week😇 Update: I MADE THE TEAM🥳🥳🥳🥳. Update 2: OK so the season is over and it is actually not that bad, it was kind of hard and the only thing that really stressful was the tournament but overall if you ever think about trying out just go for it because most likely you’ll make the team I literally didn’t know anything and now I know everything about volleyball and I still made the team so if you think about trying out or you always wanted to but you’re scared just go for it you only live once Update 3 : it's September 3 2022. I play varsity as freshman now
@Life With Rhiana ! not sure if you already had tryouts but here it is! research all there is to know about volleyball, the positions, rotations, game points, etc. learn the basic skills, setting spiking, serving, passing/bumping, and digging. wear the proper attire. spandex, a loose t shirt, knee pads, and court shoes/volleyball shoes. never talk while the coach is talking, communicate with the other boys/girls who are trying out and introduce yourself to your coach. practice up until the tryouts to get yourself familiar with the sport. hope this helps!
I'm going to try out once August rolls around, I'll be a freshman and it's so dumb because my biggest worry is whether or not I'll be able to find someone to partner up with 😂😂
Try Outs actually happened ages ago, four weeks? Or so. Anyways I made it in as one of the teams two libero. For anyone who is having tryouts and is scared, don't worry I was too. For anyone who wants any tips, watch your foot work, keep your body low and centered, arms straight. Just watch the ball predict where it's going and hussle. Hussle, hussle, hussle don't just stand there! move around but don't forget to watch the ball and of course Call "Mine" or " I Got It" make sure to call it loud!
Kahleen Lagare give me tips please, this year I am trying out for our teams libero our HS is small and I don’t think there is many other people considering this position please if you wouldn’t mind give me tips to ensure my position on the team
@@lemoncalcium6160 Well... Coachs look for people who move around the court but there's more to being a libero than that. The libero's one AND only Job is to make sure the ball doesn't touch the ground, as long as it's in the air your team will win. Also a libero needs a positive mindset, " DON'T LET THE BALL TOUCH THE GROUND! " . And lastly you need a good overhand serve it doesnt have to be those awesome olympic ones. You just need to get the ball over the net with good accuracy. Well these aren't from me these are the teaching of my coach. Also don't ever forget to call "MINE" or "I GOT IT" or anything thats gonna tell your team your gonna get the ball. If ur gonna call it call it loud like u mean it.
Kahleen Lagare thanks it really helps and I appreciate it I’ll be sure to respond to you soon and I’ll tell you if I made the position again thank you for the tips and now I know how I can better my chances
I'm going to be trying out for varsity volleyball next year and this video was super helpful. It showed how to spike, forearm, set and others things that were helpful! It also showed what you should wear. Thanks for publishing this video!
AHHHh i think i might try out but i'm so scared because i've never done sports before but i really wanna try something new so i might just practice and train this month and see how it goes :)
@@dezi1143 My friend who plays volleyball on a club team says height doesn’t matter. She says she thinks i’ll make the team (even though im 5’0 which is short for my age) but honestly I think you should just go out there and try your best! :) My tryouts are in 2 days so we’ll see how it goes!
I got onto my freshman team. Just be loud and go for every ball. Make sure you call it if you want it. Don't let your weight or unathletic ism stop you. As a person who ways 230, I made it as a middle blocker.
Lbs or kg? I’m only 11 and there’s no volleyball team in grade 5 but in grade 6 and up there is volleyball, I’m hoping to get in this year, tryouts are either September or october
@@donkeykong3340 I am 230 LBS, your weight and size don't matter as I was told I had like 3 months prior of practice before trying out for my highschool team. All I can say is be loud, go for every ball, work hard and listen to your coaches and don't give them attitude. Hard work does pay off because yesterday for our game against JV I was a starter so I am pretty sure you will do fine.
@@elilee1721 I had a special training with the school volleyball coach once and he said I should play volleyball and be a spiker because he said I spike really hard, I’m deciding whether to be a setter or opposite
@@donkeykong3340 hmm 🤔 as a middle blocker I'm their hardest spiker and decent passer and all around pretty well off. Depending on your height you can possibly be spiker but if your skills r based on spiking I'd say outside hitter you'll get the best sets and most sets depending on your setter. Opposite barely gets any balls and if they do it's an off set
to anyone reading nervous about tryouts coaches are looking for 1. hustle 2. good sportsmanship 3. if you’re “coachable” You don’t have to be good at everything coaches want someone who can receive constructive criticism and use it when given,,, always always ALWAYS call the ball. Even when passing back and forth because coaches WILL notice and encouraging others while playing is a must! Also know YOUR limits if you feel like your going to throw up etc let the coach know! They WILL understand :) Good Luck
tip for some players that are trying out of want to tryout! have a good attitude and be kind to your teammates! they love the positive energy. act like every ball is yours, even if you can’t get it. they wanna see the effort! and communicate! call out the ball no matter what. you have to go for it! don’t stress out about it, its gonna make you more worried and stress can cause pain in joints such as wrists and ankles. do whats good for you, the coaches are looking for players to fit spots on the team. so if your good at receives and you can dive for the ball, Libero would be a good place for you. only do what makes you comfortable. if you can’t jump high enough over the net, don’t. do what your good at! now i’m not an expert or anything i’ve only been on a volleyball team for 2 years and i’m a libero so i’m always in the back mainly. its hard to catch what goes on up front but if anyone wants to correct me feel free to. i’m not an expert haha. i wanted to point out when the girls started bump passing i noticed some of them weren’t backing up for where it fits them right to bump the ball and that caused them to straighten their backs. you want your knees in front of feet, and shoulders in front of knees and don’t move from that, you can bend and step forward but not backing up so its a good position isn’t good.
i remember when i first tried out for a club. i was 12 and was trying out for the 12 or 13’s teams. i ended up making the 13-1’s team and i was extremely excited. now i’m 15 playing jv for a new school and trying out for a different club this season ( i played for them already but the new season hasn’t started. my first time playing with them i made 16-White which is a short season team and the best i could’ve made for my age.
i hope you make that club! I'm 12 and trying out for my school's team in a few weeks and a club team in a few months so I'm pretty nervous but congrats!!:)
I played in 7th 8th for my school and club, I also just made a national team for this upcoming season. My best advice to make your middle school team is to learn all the volleyball words before to yell out when playing 6 on 6. Ofc you should say mine and down, but also call out if a serve is gonna be short or deep, if a hit is gonna be cross or line. Other important things: - say yes sir/ma’am to the coaches if they give you advice, then TAKE THE ADVICE - always run to shag balls/ go anywhere - when a coach is explaining something to a group, make eye contact and nod. At the end say “yes coach.” - Always be down low (kind of squatting) when waiting to receive serves, it helps you get to the ball faster and makes you look better - Learn all the volleyball terminology so you can say smart stuff instead of coaches (ace, 4, 2, c, all the positions, kill, etc) - know different volleyball drills so you can demonstrate when the coach needs an example. (butterfly, hitting lines, etc) - If possible, confirm with a friend that you’ll be partners at tryouts, you’ll more than likely need a partner for something. - Ask a coach a very specific question at the end of tryouts on the first day. “Is there anything I should know to improve my power when hitting?” this will help them remember you - Yell out compliments to other people trying out, it shows you’re a good teammate. “Nice serve!” “Great dig!” - When you mess up (you will,) don’t show too much on your face, try to stay neutral, shake it off, and tell yourself you’ll do better next time - If a coach asks someone to put up the ballcart, roll in the bleachers, put of the net, or anything like that, IMMEDIATELY RUN TO DO IT - Act excited to be there, be the most energetic in the room (even if you’re terrified, don’t worry, everyone is) - Have a good attitude, even if the coach makes you run suicides don’t sigh or make a face
I was thinking about trying out next year for 9th grade. I’ve never really played so I’m trying to learn everything I can. So in short I am absolutely terrified, but watching this made me feel a bit better. The things they are doing are pretty much what I’ve been practicing. Then again my school might be different. Anyone have any tips?😅
I'm trying out in 9th grade aswell haha I go in August but don't know when they do volleyball tryouts because I'm as of now homeschooled so now I'm very scared😂
i got into volleyball like during quarantine but never played on an actual team and the thought of me, an incoming freshman, that doesn’t know how to do a lot of stuff trying out scares me😭

And this is why I’m glad I go to a small school so that I don’t have to try out, I’m automatically on the team, but I would love to tryout if we had enough to do so
Same that’s how most of our sports are. Our volleyball team needed 10 people so the reason we had tryouts it’s because there were 12, sometimes it’s nice trying out
For some odd reason, My grade 6 self got pretty salty when I didn't make it. Of course I didn't I was facing grade 7's and 8's. I ended up not coming back to volleyball. I'm in the 9th grade and trying to train all over again so I can make the team before I leave this school for highschool. Don't let it hurt you if you don't make it first time!

I’m in 8th grade right now and I’m going to try out for volleyball next year but I’m kinda nervous because some of the high schools told me they had to run a mile before volleyball practice
Good luck! I will be trying out for the 8th grade season (currently I’m in 7th grade) I’m so scared as well cause I didn’t make the team last year, but my skills have definitely improved
Dreamin Vibes good luck all you need to know is to work on your hitting so you can spike it down it will help a lot to score more points for your team😊
Omg why? We do it to warm up our shoulders and arms. It isn’t a problem bc you can just pump the ball back up and it’s not like you’re kicking the ball 🤷🏻
im a freshman and tryouts are tomorrow, ive never played volleyball in my life but i’m pretty athletic so i hope i do well, i know basics (kinda 😅) i really want to be a libero to. I going to tryout for the fun of it, because I like volleyball why not. I am not going to be sad if I don’t make it it will just push me to be better. I will update when tryouts are over
I'm so scared for my tryouts because I'm only 5'0 and since I didn't make the team last year, (I thought serving the ball was bumping) I've been working so hard to improve my overhand when my underhand is absolutely amazing but I'm not sure my team allows that, I'm scared of spiking. The net is at least 7 feet tall and I'm not sure if they'll have us do that at tryouts. Update: tryouts are done!! I feel confident my passing was good but not so much my serves..I don't think I'll make it but it was worth a shot. 2nd round meetup is tomorrow :) 2nd round was done, did okay but there were about 50 girls there and only 15 spots. I didn't make it but I'm glad I at least got 2nd day. Keep going even if you don't make it!
don’t worry! i’m 4”11 and i can hit the ball over a net that is 7 ft! don’t be afraid just make sure ur footwork is correct and that you do not swing up but down so that it’s not an easy hit!
Wear knee pads mostly if u can’t take floor burns Learn how to communicate with the players Pass the ball to others When you receive the ball keep your hands straight and face front where you wanna pass it And stay low it makes it easier to read the ball (Hope this helps)
For reference I am a 8th grader trying out for volleyball and my tryouts are tomorrow and the next day I would just like to say as long at you show 110% effort you have a good chance of making a team. Serve receive is very important so be sure to try super hard then as well. And also never walk alway at least jog weather it’s to got and shag or to get a drink of water it shows that you want to be there and you want to get to work as fast as possible it show you have a ton of interest in it. So yeah if you guys have tryouts coming up I wish all of you the best of luckkkk
