Hey, J! Great video as always!! Congrats on a great race in Chicago! I am a 54 year old lifelong Chicagoan and have ran the Chicago Marathon 7 times, most recently in 2015. My fastest time was 4:55:47 in 2009 when it was about 45 degrees. You are to be commended on your fantastic time! And, it was your first marathon and it was hot! The heat of 2007 was really tough and the race was cancelled when I was at Mile 18. It was sunny, humid and in the 80s. What did you think of the mountainous bridge at Mile 25.9? That is so steep! But, when you turn the corner, the Finish Line is in sight! I think my marathon days may be behind me, although I still run shorter distances. Hope you got to enjoy some of the sights and foods of Chicago as well! Good luck in New York and keep up the good work on this channel!
Thank you so much Dan! And congrats and doing it 7 times! Regardless of the time doing a marathon especially at your age is truly amazing. Chicago was an amazing host and the city was amazing with the support. Running through some areas gave me goosebumps as they made me feel like a celebrity. The last hill I did hear about before the race but it didn’t make it easier. At that point it was just mustering everything you got to finish so the adrenaline kicked it. The last part of the race on Michigan before the turn was unbelievable with the crowd turnout. It felt like I was at a concert.
Ran a lot of marathons and your advice is spot on, especially consistent pacing at the beginning (which few ever follow through on). Running NYC too. A video on any logistics would be great!
Thanks Manny! Yeah sometimes we overlook the things not related to running like logistics and end up scrambling to figure it out last minute. That’s a great suggestion for NYC since I’m from there originally. I will make a video for that.
