As pilots, we are taught to "plan the flight, fly the plan." But be prepared for anything, e.g., engine loss, bird strike, un-forecast weather, etc. So always having a big "synoptic" picture in mind (like your Google map of locations) allows for safe execution of the flight, if an alternate landing site is needed, for instance. Your tutorial was a perfect application of "plan the shoot, shoot the plan," but pivot to your backup, when needed. Well done.
Love the idea of planning to excess, and then being adaptable to anything. That’s what I’ve had to learn both as a live sound engineer as well as a school teacher. Carries over nicely to this kind of video production. =)
