I am sitting on a backlog of 186 games (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One). Every month, even more games are added (PS Plus, Xbox live Gold). There are even more games i didn't count to this list (PS games and PS5 games that came for free) because atm i don't have the hardware to play them. I don't really matter my backlog. I don't have much time to play (work, kids, dog, ...), but i try to finish at least 1 game per month. These are my "rules": - I try not to fall back to a game i already played a lot and finished ("convenience food"). - plan your free time! Without planning, i always stick to youtube the whole evening without doing something productive - focus on finishing the game, not to get 100%! By trying to get a platinum i always spend more time for research instead of actually playing the game - play the games you have the most fun with! In the past i often played games that were part of a subscription model (PS Now, Game Pass), because "they will go away one day". I don't do that any more. If the game is good enough to stick with it, i can buy or borrow it later, too.

Nice tips. For me trophies and platinums have helped me make a dent in my backlog. It helps give me ‘quick wins’ And break it down into several little chunks where I can measure process on almost a daily basis.

I don't count free games as part of my backlog. No guilt for not finishing them. If I paid for it though, I'd like to get around to beating them one day.

I am sitting on probably 500-600 on switch alone. I just see a decently reviewed game on a 50-60% off and I buy it.

If you focus on one game at a time you will get through them quicker. You can finish most normal sized games in about four days if you focus on it. If you're playing multiple games you start to lose track of them and the ones you lose track of end up BACK in the backlog but at the end because you're bored of them from not paying attention, whereas if you played that game by itself, you'd be done with it in about a week. Not to mention you forget things about the game like the controls, where were you going, what mission are you on, etc and that also makes it frustrating. I started a game today, my day off, and am already most of the way through it and almost platinumed. And this is the day after I platinumed TLOU2. Playing multiple games is a fool's errand.

Absolutely! Couldn't have said it better myself. Focusing on one game allows you stay sharp on the story, controls, and whereabouts of where you last left off. There have been seasons where playing two games at a time give a nice contrast and breather from each game, but it's not always ideal. Having 1 game portably for lunch breaks at work or doctors offices and a home console game for after work and the weekends is a fun idea I do sometimes. But early this year I found myself doing this but with 2 JRPG's (Persona 3 & Dragon Quest 11). It was so hard to jumping to the open world rpg that I played the least amount of time (DQ) because I had to remember what I was doing and it was a massive game. BUT even with that being said, many modern open world games implement markers and even story recaps since the last save file so this always helps! But yes, stick with 1 game at a time :)

What do you consider a "normal sized" game? I don't believe that you can finish a 20-70 hours long game in about 4 days, except maybe if you're jobless or don't work a lot, and everything below that is short.

I'm a video game collector so i had to have the conversation with myself that not all games on my shelf will be played and i had to learn to live with that. Ive made a list of all of the unplayed games that i own and put the ones i avtually want to play in tiers to help me pick the next game after i finish one. As far as the games i know i wont ever get arpund to, i like to know i have the option if i ever have the itch to check out tales of berseria, concrete genie, or aome other random game that seems interesting. Maybe when im in a retirement home 😅

I used to have an backlog that was around 180/185. I also focus on working through the backlog for 2 years and now i don't have to backlog anymore and that feels a lot better indeed

My new years resolution is to play one game at a time and work through my backlog. I've had a backlog since 2015. Before that I would buy a game and finish it. With Xbox 360 and PS3 being fairly cheap at the time. I bought one after the other and the Xbox one putting a lot on their backwards compatibility list, I just went on a spree. So this year, I've been playing one game and it's going well so far haha. Great video new subscriber! Also, you're not to close to the camera man, people are just trolling. If not, embrace the joke and make it your thing and zoom in more for your next video haha.

Great advice, I'm gonna get through my backlog in the next year or so if I keep going at the rate I'm going. The big one for me is not buying new games until you've completed the ones you have.
@playyourway6243
@playyourway6243 2 года назад
Big one for me too! BUT, its kind of fun to reward yourself with a new game when you beat the previous one!
@stefantherainbowphoenix
@stefantherainbowphoenix Год назад
Instead of not buying any new games at all, it would be better to set yourself a goal of how many games you have to finish or abandon until you're allowed to buy a new one. For example, finish or abandon 5 games from your backlog and be allowed to buy one new game (that you have to play asap).

I'm dealing with it now super heavy. Between PS3, PS4, PS5 and Sega Dreamcast I can't seem to grasp getting thru the stack due to being so busy. And for awhile there I didn't want to play anything....I would watch gaming news and read it but then when I tried to sit down and play I would just kinda stare at the home screen. Hoping I get over this whatever funk I'm in for good. Curious if you ever have been thru gaming burnout and maybe a possible tips video on getting thru it in the future???

Ive been there! Fatigue is what gets me. Getting home from work and then being too tired to pickup the controller. In terms of being in a funk and just not in the mood to play. Thats normal and embrace it. Take that time to enjoy another aspect of life: Nature, Pets, Family, another hobby. The itch will come back around 😁🎳

My one tip: you don't have a backlog. You have an amazing goldmine of entertainment that you can dip into whenever you want, or not. You are in control. You're welcome.

How do you know you beaten a rougelike? When do you take it out from the backlog?
@playyourway6243
@playyourway6243 2 года назад
I take it out of the backlog when I lose feelings for it. If its just not fun or doesn't bring any joy to play. I also keep in the back of my mind that these feelings could change and ask myself "is this a game where these feelings could change and I could see myself wanting to play later?"

I know you say stop buying games but sometimes games like Altus and Atelier games become really expensive and hard to find physically 😑 unless your one who’s into digital only🤔
@playyourway6243

And that's a fair point, but part of the reason why we have a backlog is FOMO 😉

Stop buying new games or at least set a goal like you have to finish 3 games before you buy a new one. Only buy a new game if you plan to play it right away. Only play 1 or two at a time, and organize your library so it's easy to keep track. I like to play a mix of genres and game lengths to keep it varied so I don't get bored. If I have just finished a long rpg, then I'll play a few short indie games to mix it up. I also don't think playing all the shortest ones first makes much sense. If I have a game that will take 5 hours to beat, one that will take 10 hours to beat and one that will take 30 hours to beat that's a total of 45 hours to finish all three regardless of the order you play them. Although, in this case, I would probably start by knocking out some short to medium length ones to begin with just to get the ball rolling and to start making some progress. You don't want to go through a 100 hour rpg and see your list of 1200 games go down by one.
@stefantherainbowphoenix
@stefantherainbowphoenix Год назад
@@SnapsZGaming"You don't want to go through a 100 hour rpg and see your list of 1200 games go down by one." But that's what you'll inevitably see every time you finish or abandon a game from your backlog, whether it's a 100 hours RPG or not. On the other hand, if you play the 100 hours RPG first, you'll see your backlog going down by 100 hours instead of only 5.
